Work Text:
Through will alone I hold myself tall, standing against the forces that think themselves stronger than me. I feel each piece of myself, each fingertip and strand of hair and atom of my body, and I hold onto it as I stand on unwavering feet. Through my will alone these pieces stay together to form me. I am whole because I make it that way. I stand because I will it. And when the punches come, I dance on light feet, each chosen movement of my body the reflection of my will carrying me closer to return the blow. And when the bullets pierce my skin, I force them from my flesh and knit the wound together with my will to see it healed. People might fear the ghosts in my shadow and the shine of my light and the stories they tell of people like me, and they might say they know what I am. But I know what I am. I am the force of my will. I am what I choose, and I choose to be strong. I choose to be kind. I choose to love.
And I choose to catch the sun.
