Work Text:
Lan Ge and Fa Hua stared at the single bed in the room, both faces showing various degrees of incredulity thinking back on the giddy face of the reception lady who happily told them all the rooms are booked except for one, and that even after Lan Ge went to ask for an extra mattress to put on the floor, she shook her head with a bright smile and told him there wasn‘t any available that night.
“I mean…this isn’t the first time we’ve shared a room…”
“It was a tent,” reminded Fa Hua with a raised eyebrow. He then sighed softly. “I’ll just sleep on the floor, don’t worry.”
“No,” Lan Ge frowned. “Why did we bother booking a hotel then if you’re gonna meditate on the floor as usual anyway?”
“Technically you paid for this room, so I’m not exactly required to stay.”
“But I specifically paid for both of us!”
“…Then what do you propose we do?”
Lan Ge stood there chewing his lip, eyes darting from himself to Fa Hua to the single bed. They both know the solution to their problems already, but neither were willing to say it aloud.
In the end it was Lan Ge who mumbled: “If we…if we scooch over to each end, I think we can make it work?”
“I know how you sleep,” pointed out Fa Hua as he crossed his arms. “Are you sure you won’t hit me with your hands or feet during the night?”
A splash of red bloomed on Lan Ge’s face as he spluttered, “I can’t promise anything but I’ll try not to okay!”
Fa Hua’s mouth twitched.
They ended up sleeping facing away from one another, a deliberate space left in between as they made themselves comfortable.
“Night,” yawned Lan Ge, curling up into a ball as sleep quickly took over, the excitement of the day catching up to him at last.
“Mm. Good night,” replied Fa Hua quietly.
He waited until he could no longer feel Lan Ge’s thoughts before rolling over on his back, sighing in content at the new sleeping posture. Now that he was much more comfortable, he let himself fall into the dark of the night.
As he had expected, a stray arm found its way to him in the middle of the night, Fa Hua immediately awake as he silently watched Lan Ge sling an arm around his torso like he was his personal throw pillow, one leg thrown on top of his haphazardly as if drawn towards his body warmth like a moth to a flame, and Fa Hua couldn’t help the small fond, exasperated smile forming on his lips.
A part of him wanted to extract himself from Lan Ge because he needed some space, but the bigger, fonder part of him didn’t really mind. Fa Hua relaxed himself in Lan Ge’s hold and closed his eyes once more.
In the morning…
“Lan Ge, wake up.”
“Five more minutes…” Lan Ge snuggled further into the strangely solid yet comfortable pillow he was hugging, sighing happily as he mumbled nonsense.
A hand landed itself gently on top of Lan Ge’s head, the pillow he was hugging somehow shifting in sync with his breathing—
“If you don’t wake up soon, someone might come in and see us,” continued the deep voice that sounded suspiciously like…Fa Hua?
Lan Ge’s eyes snapped open, only to find himself face to face with a familiar shoulder, looking up to see Fa Hua’s face inches away from his, so close that he can count his lashes. For some reason, a massive sense of deja vu flitted through his mind this very moment.
…Huh?
Fa Hua stared back at him indifferently, but it was so clear to Lan Ge that he was laughing at him.
“Wha—!!!” Lan Ge coiled away from Fa Hua as if stung by a bee, right about to fall off the bed had Fa Hua not grabbed him in time.
Now Fa Hua wasn’t even trying to hide his amusement, openly chuckling as Lan Ge recovered from both embarrassment and the shock of almost falling, lips trembling in anger as he watched Fa Hua cover his mouth, as though that could hide the obvious enjoyment he was getting out of seeing Lan Ge flustered.
“Fa-duidui, you…”
“Let’s go, the others will be up soon,” interrupted Fa Hua smoothly, rising from the bed as though nothing happened just now, and Lan Ge sulked—he really wished he could strangle his partner and best friend right then and there.
