Lamboi (a short story)

Summary:

Definition: a boi obsessed with Lamborghinis

Work Text:

Lilia sighed.

Her boyfriend had just arrived at school, ten minutes late as usual. In his brand new black Lamborghini, no less.

"Of course I like the attention. I'm rich, why shouldn't I be able to show off? You don't see celebrities apologizing for eating caviar every night do you?"

That's what he'd said when she'd asked why he liked to bring a different car to their boring public school every other day. It didn't help that he had an absolute obsession with the Lamborghini brand in general.

She shook her head and then smiled, pushing herself from her leaning post, which was her brother's old truck, in all its peeling paint glory. While it's AC had died years before, it still dutifully served its purpose of being Lilia's transportation for the past two years. She headed to her boyfriend's car, right as the left door swung open and the car's driver graciously stood up.

In one swift motion, his Gucci sunglasses were off and hung on his black skinny jeans pocket. His off white belt stood out, gleaming in the sunlight, a nice contrast to his tight black shirt. Lilia ran the last few feet that was still in between them, before throwing her arms around him in a quick squeeze, followed by a kiss on his cheek, which she had to stand on her toes to reach.

"Well hello my little Lily." He said, calling her by his pet name for her.

"You know we're in the same grade right?" she asked, protesting the silly nickname with a pout on her lips.

He laughed. "Yeah but I'm a good six inches taller than you."

He was correct, as she was 5'8 and he was 6'2.

"Whatever, I still need a cute nickname for you, since you don't like being called Jakey."

He pretended to shudder, "Jake is just fine thanks."

Jake then pulled her close and leaned down to her height and pressed his mouth to hers, their lips fitting together perfectly. Even though they'd kissed countless times, Lilia still melted into a pile of goo each time he did that. When he pulled away, she let out a sigh of happiness and content.

"We should probably go inside. School's gonna start any minute now." Jake whispered in her ear.

"I do believe class has already begun, you were ten minutes late you know," she said, laughing.

The parking lot was devoid of people, save for them.

He hummed, and tightened his arms around her.

"You know," he began, "We could just skip today and drive around town in my lambo."

Her eyes widened and she pushed herself slightly back to look up at him. Unlike her, he was an almost perfect student, with perfect attendance seven years in a row. Him wanting to play hooky was unheard of.

"What makes you wanna do that?" she whispered, puzzled.

He pulled her close again, and whispered one simple word.

"You."

It's amazing how one little word can make you feel like you're glowing, and undeniably happy and giddy like never before.

She was reluctant when she pulled away, but she knew that soon enough she'd be back in his arms. They got into his still warm car and Jake revved the engine.

"So where to milady?" he asked in a chivalrous voice. She laughed, but a small blush still crept up her neck.

"I don't know. You're the one who wanted to skip remember?" she teased.

He smiled at her lovingly, not embarrassed in the least. "True. How about the beach?"

It was still near the beginning of their senior year, and seeing as how they lived in New Jersey, it would be plenty warm enough for a trip to the beach.

"Hmm, sounds like a plain."

It was a forty minute drive, give or take, with how her boyfriend was pushing the speed limit, so she lay her head on the door rest and closed her eyes.

When she awoke, it was to a shining blue ocean and a sandy beach. The car stopped and they got out, stretching after the long drive. They walked to the edge of the sand and took off their shoes. Jake rolled up his jeans, while Lilia pulled up and buttoned the sleeves to her baby blue button down blouse. She thanked her lucky star fruit that she'd worn shorts that came up a good few inches above her knees. Hand in hand, they waded into the sparkling water.

Soon enough they were both soaked. Playful splashing had resulted in Jake pulled them both under the current. She came up for air giggling, but before she, she was pulled back under. Lips touched hers and she grinned against Jake's mouth.

When they finally surfaced for air, they were in each other's embrace, smiling at each other shyly. In that moment, it felt like it was just the two of them in the whole world. He was her world, she realized. As young as they were, she couldn't imagine her life without him. She wanted to spend every waking moment with him and that was frightening. Loving someone that much... it was almost bound to end badly.

Her thoughts turned melancholy, of what would happen to them after they graduated, and the summer after was over. Jake would most likely be going to an Ivy league college, while she could barely afford community college with financial aid. He'd offered to help with her tuition, but she'd refused. if something happened to them, she didn't want to have to be paying back her ex for the rest of her life. Her worries mostly stemmed from the difference in their social class, and even though Jake had never made her feel less of a person for not having the money he did, she still felt that lingering doubt of how they'd be perceived, especially by his family, who she'd never met. Jake always said they wanted to meet her, but that his parents were just to busy right now. And they'd been together for over half a year now.

After a moment longer, she snapped back to reality, when Jake asked what was wrong.

"Nothing," she replied, plastering a smile on her face.

They swam around for awhile longer, the time slipping by too fast. When they walked back to his car, she was shivering, goosebumps lining her arms and legs. She wondered if the weather had changed, or if it was just her.

Thankfully in the back of Jake's car was a stack of towels, which made her wonder if his beach idea had really been so spontaneous or preplanned, and they dried off as much as they could, before sitting down on the sand for a little while. Jake noticed how cold Lilia was, and held her in his arms, rubbing them up and down around her to generate some warmth.

She tried to keep her mind present with her attentive boyfriend, not wanting to slip into more worries of what the future would bring, and so they idly chatted about random things before he suggested they get something warm for lunch from the little shop on the beach.

They were soon back in the car and drove back to the school in a peaceful silence, holding hands, to get her car. School had already let out about an hour earlier, so the parking lot was completely empty when they pulled in.

She pulled his face to hers and pressed a kiss to the skin near his left eye, smiling and saying goodbye before grabbing her keys from the cup holder she had dropped them in earlier, and getting out and into her car.

She drove home with Jake on her mind. No one else was home, which was no surprise. It was only five o'clock. Her mom was a nurse and her older brother had died almost three years ago in a construction accident. She locked the door behind her and removed her shoes before heading to take a nice hot shower. After, she fell asleep listening to her favorite song 'Lambo'.

The next morning Lilia woke to her alarm blasting, and she scrambled to get ready in time, since she'd set her alarm later than usual. It was chilly out so she threw on a fuzzy pink sweater and black vans, before sprinting to her car with a piece of toast in her mouth. She managed to still get to school early, and it was another fifteen minutes of sleepy high schoolers droning past her, before Jake finally showed up. His school attendance might've been perfect, but that couldn't really compare with the amount of tardy slips he had, and of course the detention that followed after too many.

He ran out of his car, which today was a white Lamborghini with red rims, and over to Lilia who was leaning against the school building. He hung his arm around her, while she wrapped her arm around his waist and they walked in together. She sighed to herself. He really was a Lamboi. But he was her Lamboi.
