Hold Out [One-Shot]

Work Text:

"I think, think we did all we can do," Snowdrift says finally as he pulls away from the bot on the table slab.

Delirium is hesitant to remove his hands from where wires and energon pumps bloomed out of Megnus's chest plates, from where his fingers are wrapped around the bot's spark.

Megnus' spark had been vulnerable when Delirium had taken it out his damaged chest and placed it into the new frame, and some irrational part of him feared that if he removed his hands from it now, it'd go out.

"He's stable, Del," Coil's hand is heavy on his shoulder, "It's okay."

"You can let go," Snowdrift adds, nodding slightly with his words.

It still takes Delirium a while to let go, even with Snowdrift and Coil's reassurance.

Snowdrift wipes spilled energon from Delirium's hands with a rag.

"You should get some rest now, you need to recharge."

"Need to be here when he wakes up," Delirium argues, his tail lashing through the air with nerves.

"You hadn't had a proper recharge in 9 cycles."

"I can last another-" Delirium starts, before Snowdrift cuts him off, optics narrowing.

"Megnus would be upset if he comes to and learns you haven't been taking care of yourself in his absence."

The bot finishes cleaning Delirium's hands, and gives them a squeeze, "Please, just go recharge and refuel, the moment he comes back online one of us will come get you."

"Till then, me and Snow will both stay here and keep an eye on him," Coil promises, already stationing himself beside where Megnus lay.

Really there weren't any other bots Delirium would or could trust with a task like that.

Megnus would be safe with them.

"Okay..." Delirium says, even though he still doesn't really want to. "Just, the second he even so much as stirs, come get me."

"Of course," Snowdrift promises, "The very moment."

Delirium nods in acknowledgement. He starts to leave, before he is suddenly struck the need to only leave after he does something important.

"Snowdrift, Coil?"

"Mhm?"

"Yes?"

Delirium's optics open a little wider than they would normally and the metal fins on the side of his helm flare open like a fan, exposing the wires that link them together.

The pair of bots stare at the display for a moment, before Snowdrift's smaller fins do the same, and Coil's follows suit not long after.

It's an unspoken gesture between a Predacon and two false ones.

"Go recharge now, Del," Coil says, nodding towards the door.

Delirium slips away, leaving Coil and Snowdrift alone with Megnus.

"Well he better wake up now," Snowdrift says as his fins click back into place.

Coil blew air out his mouth, "He will."
