Chapter 1-Back Here Again.
With Cas dead, Chuck defeated, and Jack now essentially being God, a lot has happened in the last week. Jack needed some time before being the celestial entity. He already felt like he let so many people down, they weren’t ready to let every being in existence down as well. So they created their angels, their archangels, and left them in charge while he cleared his head and adjusted to his new God life. Of course, they didn’t leave newbies to run Heaven alone. He brought a familiar angel back to life.
Well, two.
But that is a story for another day.
Once Jack informed Castiel and Gabriel of everything, they understood why he would have to step back for a while. Gabriel especially. They were content with the positions they got. Gabriel was to watch the angels and be there whenever they needed help, something he was good at before everything went down. Castiel, on the other hand, was to work along with Chamuel, one of Jack’s Archangels, to temporarily “rule” heaven until he was back. Castiel was hesitant but ultimately agreed when Gabriel flat-out denied the position. So, Jack let them know where he would generally be going and left.
Now they’re here. Sitting on the ground, knees pulled to their chest as their head rests in their arms. In front of him was an abandoned trailer home. It wasn’t too old, or unlivable. But since no one was going to use it, Jack will. Yes, he did say he wouldn’t insert himself in like Chuck did. That he would be “hands off”. But staying in an old house no one was going to live in away from everyone wouldn’t be inserting himself, would it? At least, that’s how they convinced themself. Either way, they had to be here. It was one of the few places he felt happy. Felt normal. Before he, of course, messed it up.
The sound of the fence creaking snapped them out of their thoughts. Someone was on the other side of it, singing. They weren’t belting out any lyrics, but the soft and gentle voice was enough to mesmerize Jack for a second before realizing who was on the other side. It was someone he thought he’d never see again. Let alone hear the voice of again. Jack wanted to run, but the sound of their voice made them stay. And he knew the song they were singing, and how perfect their voice was for it. That helped Jack’s decision to stay.
“You're a flashlight in a dark room or the loneliest blackout,” the voice quietly sang. Despite the actual song being more fast-paced, the slow and somber voice of the person now singing made it sound more like a lullaby. Jack didn’t mind. He just listened, leaning in so he can hear as much as he could. “You were all we had left after-” Creak.
Shit. Jack hadn’t even realized how closed he leaned in until the fence made that noise. He flinched backward, their hand shot over their mouth. But they were too late. The person on the other side of the fence heard. They were now silent, most likely waiting for another noise. After a few seconds of silence, the one on the other side spoke.
“Hello?” they asked, drawing the word out. Jack stayed still and silent. They wanted to leave, but something was preventing them. He tried to say something, but all he did was open his mouth. Jack shifted, which caused the leaves around him to crackle under their hand. They shut their eyes tight, knowing how badly they were caught.
“I know someone’s there,” the voice scoffed, and Jack could hear the smirk in their voice.
“I-I’m sorry,” Jack stuttered, starting to stand up, ”I was...I was just leaving.”
“No no stay,” they said, leaning off the fence, “It gets lonely here, I like company.”
Jack stood in place for a few before sitting back down, crossing his legs. “If you say so,” they shrugged, still skeptical. Did they not recognize his voice?
“I do,” they chimed, leaning back onto the fence. After a few seconds, they spoke up again. “Do you come here often? I come almost every day but I’ve never seen you. Are you new?”
“Well you’re not seeing me now either,” Jack muttered, causing a small laugh from the other side, ”But.. Yeah I’m new here. I’m uh, going to be staying at this trailer house for a while.”
“That old thing? Why?”
“Well I can’t be at home right now, and I needed to get away from stuff. And..it’s pretty here.”
The kid on the other side laughed again, “You’re funny kid,” he said, and Jack could tell they were smiling, “My name’s Eliot. What’s your’s?”
Jack knew that. They also knew if they were to say their name, Eliot would leave. He didn’t want to lie, but he also felt like this could be their retry. They messed up last time, and they didn’t want to not see, or hear, Eliot again. They think for a quick second, before speaking.
“I’m...James,” they stated, hoping it sounded believable despite how slowly he said it. It was the first thing he thought of. Luckily, Eliot believed it.
“Nice to meet you, James,” Eliot beamed. Jack smiled shyly and leaned on the fence. His legs were propped up as he looked at the ground, hands in his leg pits.
Eliot hummed to himself, and Jack just listened. It was nice to talk to him again, even if it was on opposite sides of a fence. And he doesn’t seem to remember them, which hurts, but also gives them hope. After a while, Eliot broke the silence again.
“Hey, do you like the Supernatural?”
