Work Text:

Ritsu never expected anything to come out of what he had convinced himself had just been a long-term crush on Saga Masamune. He always thought that Saga would graduate high school a couple years ahead of him, and he’d be left with just his memories of following him around every corner, probably never seeing him again.

But then he’d gone and blurted out a love confession, and those expectations were thrown out the window when Saga patted Ritsu’s head. It was the first time that Saga touched him.

The second time Saga touched him was while they were standing in the rain together–he held Ritsu’s hand so gently, but Ritsu felt as if a swarm of butterflies had assaulted his stomach, and the interaction ended in him dashing off.

The third time Saga touched Ritsu they were in his bedroom, when he kissed him for the first time, and that quickly went far beyond just kissing, and into something that Ritsu was still having a hard time believing happened. It was at that point that he couldn’t keep count any longer—as things flew far past three.

Right now, Saga was cuddled up against him, arms wrapped around Ritsu’s torso, gentle breaths against his face after they had settled down from the night’s activities.

“Um, Senpai, I should probably call home, I didn’t tell my mother about being here…” Ritsu wriggled in Saga’s grasp as his arms tightened around him.

“Do you have a cell phone?” Saga asked, both out of the urge to exchange contact information, but also to figure out if he needed to offer up the home phone.

“Yes, it can’t do much, my parents just want me to use it to call them if I need to…” Ritsu pushed gently off of the mattress, leaving an empty spot next to Saga that left him feeling a bit lonely. “I-It’s already pretty dark out, so um…”

“You should just stay the night.” Saga suggested, trying not to sound too enthusiastic about the idea…but the thought of snuggling up with Ritsu for the entire night made him content.

“Okay, I’ll leave the room so I don’t disturb you…” Ritsu slipped into the hallway and dialed his mother, who answered after just one ring.

“Ritsu!” She exclaimed. “Do you have any idea how worried I was about you?! Do you realize how late it is?”

“Um, I-I’m sorry, Mother!” Ritsu walked further down the hall, hoping Saga couldn’t hear her through the receiver. “I ended up going to a f-friend’s house to study, but it’s pretty late now. He said I could stay over, would that be okay?”

“Since it’s already this late, fine, but next time make sure you tell me before you go to a friend’s house!” She scolded. “Don’t overstay your welcome tomorrow, I expect you home before lunch.”

“I’ll message you before I head home, sorry for worrying you, Mother! Goodbye!” Before she could say anything else, Ritsu hung up and walked back to the bedroom. He shrunk back slightly at the stare being directed at him.

“So what did she say?” Saga asked, chin resting in his hand.

“She said I could stay the night…” Ritsu stood awkwardly in the middle of the room, looking down at the floor. “But, um, Senpai…”

“What is it?”

“Do you have a…futon to lay out?” As soon as the words came out of Ritsu’s mouth, Saga’s brows furrowed.

“...No.” Saga lied through his teeth. “I just figured you'd share my bed with me.”

“E-eh?” Ritsu’s chest suddenly felt far tighter than what was likely healthy. “But…”

“Do you not want to?” Saga definitely didn’t have puppy-dog eyes, but his words had the exact same effect on Ritsu’s heart.

“It-it’s not that at all! I just don’t want to-to impose or anything like that!” Ritsu flailed his arms wildly, blushing.

“...After what we just did, I’m surprised you’d be worried about sharing a bed with me.”

“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you or-eh-what are you-” Saga had stood up and grabbed Ritsu by the hand, dragging him back to his bed, holding him in his arms.

“Just relax.” Saga held him in his arms again, hugging him close. “I don’t mind sharing my bed with you.”

Ritsu sincerely wished being told to relax ever worked on him, but this was quite possibly the most on edge he’d ever been in his entire fifteen years of living.

“G'night.” Saga leaned in, resting his chin atop Ritsu’s mop of brown hair, squeezing him a bit tighter in his arms.

“G-good night…” Ritsu replied, even less relaxed than before

It was impossible. Absolutely impossible. There was no way he’d be getting any sleep tonight.

Ritsu had been right to think such a thing, as he hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep in the nine hours that Saga had spent hugging onto him.

You’d think he’d be thrilled! His longtime crush had kissed him, started calling him by his first name…and done numerous other things that even many hours later he was still having a hard time processing. He just didn’t know what to do with himself.

He had considered slipping away a few times, but his worry of waking up Saga, who had specifically faced Ritsu’s back against the wall, overrode his desire to run off. That, and this somehow felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity—the fruition of his stalking ambitions for the past three years, far past shoving his face in a pillow for a few measly seconds.

The usually rare sight of Saga’s sleeping face that he only ever saw when things were exceedingly boring and quiet in the library (and even then, he’d never seen it up close) had been centimeters away from him all night.

Even with just the moonlight and early morning sun filtering in through the bedroom window, Ritsu’s eyes had adjusted, and he had been able to study Saga’s face more than ever before. All at the cost of…literally any sleep.

When Saga finally opened his eyes in the morning, Ritsu recoiled back in his arms, having been caught staring.

Saga just stared back, brows furrowing slightly as he leaned his head back and yawned.

Even something as simple as a yawn made Ritsu’s heart race, and he had to tear his eyes away before he did anything exceedingly embarrassing.

“G-good morning, Senpai.” Ritsu mumbled.

“Morning.” Saga yawned again, stretching out his arms slightly before bringing them right back around Ritsu’s shoulders. “...Did you sleep okay?”

“Oh, um, yes!” Ritsu nodded far too enthusiastically for Saga to believe him for a second. “I slept just fine!”

“...That’s good.” Saga pulled back, sitting up properly. “Did you want anything in particular for breakfast?”

“Oh, I couldn’t impose on you like that!” Ritsu sat up as well, but then his brain caught up a bit more. “But, um, Senpai, you can cook?”

“I’m basically alone all the time, so I had to learn.”

“O-oh…” Ritsu looked down now, feeling as if he’d asked something he wasn’t supposed to. Perhaps there was more to his parents not being around than he’d let off yesterday evening. “Sorry for asking.”

“It‘s fine, don’t worry about it.” Saga patted his head and stalked off to the bathroom.

From the kitchen, Saga could tell that Ritsu was being good and just waiting on one of the couches in the living room as he'd told him to, but he wished Ritsu would just come closer.

Ritsu hadn’t given him any particular idea about what he wanted to eat, saying that anything Senpai made would be delicious, and that he didn’t have any particular food aversions or allergies. So he just settled on making a typical breakfast, one that he didn’t think all that hard about.

But when he called Ritsu to the dining table and saw the way that his face lit up at the sight of his cooking, he wondered just what was going on in his head.

“It’s delicious!” Ritsu exclaimed after his first bite, smiling brightly. Saga felt his chest go tight.

“...It’s not really anything special.” Saga paused to take a bite. “I’m sure you eat even better at home.”

“But it’s your cooking!” Ritsu immediately paused up and broke out into a blush all over again. “I mean-I just…uh! I’m all over the place, I’m sorry!”

Saga placed down his utensils and pulled Ritsu away from the table and into the living room, setting off all sorts of sputtering.

“Um, Senpai, what are you-” Ritsu’s eyes went wide as his lips came dangerously close. “But the food!”

“The food isn’t going anywhere.” Saga bumped their foreheads together now, staring directly into Ritsu’s eyes.

“I-I haven’t brushed my teeth, my breath probably smells bad!” Ritsu pushed gently off of Saga’s shoulders, but the small amount of pressure did little to deter him.

“I don’t really care about things like that.” Saga shrugged his worries off and connected their lips again, and Ritsu felt his entire body go limp in his arms.

Would every kiss from Saga make Ritsu’s chest seize up like this? He found himself wondering that, among many other things as he was pushed onto the couch.

Notes:

I originally intended to make this longer (the same can be said for Day 3 when I post it lol) but I really want to get out a fic for each prompt this year. I hope you enjoyed it for what it was, and can look forward to the next few fics I'll be posting over the course of this week!
