Work Text:

One fine morning, as the sun rose over the kingdom, Madeleine Cookie noticed Espresso Cookie working in his laboratory. He could see the dark circles under Espresso's eyes, a clear sign that he hadn't slept at all that night.

Concerned for his friend, Madeleine decided it was time to intervene. "Espresso, my dear friend, you cannot continue like this," Madeleine said, striding into the laboratory with his usual flair. "You need some rest, and I'm here to make sure you get it."

Espresso, always a bit reserved and serious in his mannerisms, replied, "I appreciate your concern, Madeleine, but I have important work to complete."

"Important work or not, you need a break. Now, lie down and close your eyes," Madeleine said, taking charge of the situation.

As Espresso protested, Madeleine began softly humming a soothing melody, his voice warm and comforting. The sweet sound of the lullaby filled the room, and Espresso couldn't help but be drawn into its calming embrace.

"Just a short rest, Espresso. You've earned it," Madeleine whispered, his hand softly stroking Espresso's forehead.

Reluctantly, Espresso allowed himself to relax. The gentle melody and Madeleine's caring presence eased his tense muscles and slowed his racing thoughts.

“I love you,” Espresso mumbled .

“I know” the other smiled.

Despite their different personalities, they had formed a deep bond that surpassed mere friendship. Madeleine's prideful exterior seemed to melt away as he embraced the vulnerability of the moment, revealing the caring heart that lay beneath.

“I love you..more than a friend” Espresso continued.

Madeleine's eyes widened at Espresso's heartfelt confession. He was taken aback, not expecting such a declaration. But as he looked into Espresso's eyes, he saw the sincerity and vulnerability in them, and his heart skipped a beat.

He took a moment to process the words, and then a soft smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "Oh, Espresso," he replied, his voice filled with warmth, "you have a way of surprising me, but I'm grateful for your honesty."

Madeleine reached out and gently cupped Espresso's cheek with his hand. "You know, I care deeply for you too, more than you might realize," he said, his gaze unwavering. "It's true that we are different in many ways, but that's what makes our connection so special."

Espresso's heart swelled with a mix of relief and joy at Madeleine's response. He had feared rejection, but Madeleine's words reassured him that their bond went beyond friendship.

"You bring color to my life, Madeleine," Espresso whispered, his voice filled with emotion.

Madeleine's smile widened, and he leaned in closer to Espresso. "And you, my dear Espresso, bring a sense of stability and purpose to my life," he said, his voice gentle. "Your dedication to perfection and your intelligence are truly admirable, and I admire your strength of character."

In that moment, time seemed to stand still as their emotions swirled around them. Madeleine's hand continued to caress Espresso's cheek, and Espresso leaned into the touch, relishing the affectionate gesture.

With unspoken understanding, they leaned in closer until their lips met in a tender and sweet kiss. It was a moment of shared vulnerability and affection, sealing the bond between them in a way words never could. As they pulled back, their eyes met.

“Will you go to sleep now?” The blonde asked.

Espresso chuckled softly, feeling a sense of warmth and contentment that he had never experienced before. "Yes, I promise I'll go to sleep now," he replied, his voice tinged with affection. "But only if you join me."

Madeleine's eyes sparkled with amusement and fondness. "Oh, you really know how to negotiate, don't you?" he teased playfully. "Alright, I'll stay with you until you fall asleep. Just this once." With Madeleine by his side, Espresso closed his eyes, feeling a sense of peace wash over him.

“Espresso you can’t sleep here-” Madeleine chuckled.

“Why not?I’m comfortable” Espresso asked.

“You’re on a chair dear, let’s go to my bedroom”.

Espresso opened one eye, looking around the laboratory, and then back at Madeleine with a playful smirk. "Hmm, I suppose you have a point," he conceded. "Lead the way, then."

Madeleine chuckled softly and helped Espresso up from the chair. He gently guided him out of the laboratory and through the bustling halls of the kingdom. As they walked, the other cookies they passed couldn't help but smile at the sight of the unlikely duo together.

Once they arrived at Madeleine's bedroom, he led Espresso to the comfortable bed and urged him to lie down. "There you go, my dear," Madeleine said, pulling the covers over Espresso and tucking him in. "Now, close your eyes and get some rest. I'll be right here with you."

Espresso couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort and warmth as Madeleine sat beside him on the bed. Madeleine's presence was like a soothing balm, and he could feel his worries and stress slowly melting away.

“What about a kiss? I won’t sleep without a kiss” Espresso playfully said.

Madeleine chuckled at Espresso's. "Oh, is that so?" he replied with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. "Well, I suppose I can't let you go to sleep without a kiss."

Leaning in closer, Madeleine planted a soft, tender kiss on Espresso's forehead. "There you go, my dearest Espresso," he said, his voice filled with affection. "Now you can sleep peacefully." Espresso smiled, feeling a rush of warmth and happiness at the gentle gesture.

"Thank you, Madeleine," he said softly. “Does this make you my boyfriend?”

Madeleine's cheeks flushed with a hint of surprise, but he couldn't help but smile at Espresso's straightforward question. "Well, I suppose it does," he replied with a playful glint in his eyes.

"If that's what you want, then yes, I'd be honored to be your boyfriend." Espresso's smile widened, and a sense of joy filled his heart.

"I do want that," he said, his voice earnest. "I've come to care for you deeply, and I want to explore this bond between us."

As Madeleine continued to hum the soothing lullaby, Espresso's eyes grew heavy, and he felt himself drifting off to sleep. He didn't resist this time; he knew he was in good hands with Madeleine by his side.

Madeleine watched Espresso's breathing steady and a small smile graced his lips. He was glad to see his serious friend finally finding the rest he needed.

He leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on Espresso's forehead, a tender gesture filled with affection.

"Sleep well, my dearest Espresso," Madeleine whispered, brushing a strand of hair away from Espresso's face. "I'll be here when you wake up."
