Chapter Text
It was a bit after the whole light business was finished. There were all sorts of new things in the in the sky, from the distant ones that would show up on a particularly clear night to the sun itself. That sun was specifically placed in this one nice spot in space, and it would aid the rest of creation. Everything was already in motion, from the sky to the plants to all sorts of interesting animals and even the first humans. Unfortunately, the very first angels to be born were full of unrest near the final day, as the eldest of them all rallied them together to challenge all that is and will be.
Well, of course they were cast out or else it would have been chaos, and chaos is not the best for work morale.
In that group however, a particular angel flew in. His hair radiated a vibrant red, the star charts were held securely in one hand, and a frown lay upon his face. Though divinity was before him with an intense radiant warmth, there was no fear to be seen and no malicious intent to be felt. For these reasons alone God decided to properly converse with this one.
“I'm sorry, did you just… kick them all out?” He asked as he waved his hand down towards where the gathering of angels once stood. “Why’d you decide to do that? Just because they asked a few questions?”
“Lucifer and those who rallied with him made their choice. For not only asking questions, but for challenging and defying their very existence, they were cast out.”
“Ah, well, that’s quite unfortunate, I liked the lot of them. Just letting you know I’m not exactly defying, but I still need to ask-”
“Why is it so hard to trust in me?” She interrupted, the glow of her grace brighter than before. “In terms of parenthood, which will be invented later, I know I’m not the most present paternal figure, but I made my words very clear. Do you disagree with my plans as well?”
The heavens shook, and he stopped talking to stare up at the brilliant light. Unlike Lucifer’s rally, this was more along the lines of optimistic bravery. This angel’s questions stemmed not from the oldest of all, rather the youngest of the second bunch. Already this game of poker was unpredictable in the most interesting of ways.
“No. Well, maybe? I was just told that the star systems I’m making are going to fizzle out sooner than I had planned, and if there was a way to include a suggestion box of sorts, but it seems like that’s not going to happen any time soon; with your plans and everything.”
He said this with another wave of his hand in a generalizing way. God could tell he was a different seeker of knowledge already straying from his purpose.
“My plans are ineffable.”
Another frown. “Ineffable hmm? Well, that’s quite a shame-”
“However, only the beginning and end. Everything in between and afterwards is in everyone else’s hands”
.
There was a short pause at this time. The star-making angel put his free hand to his chin in thought. Very soon he would harbor resentment to how The Almighty ran things, and how easily everyone was discarded. “Right, well, that’s… better, I think? I still don’t agree with the universe dying out so soon, and why you wouldn’t even give it a chance to grow. Quite upset about it actually.”
“Maybe you’ll find the answers down there. Unfortunately for this I will have to cast you out as well.”
“Was planning on leaving anyways. If I stay, who knows how much more of my work you’ll take down.”
“Yes, I knew you had already decided to leave. All part of the plan really.”
He frowned again and looked down at his star charts. Though he had enjoyed every minute of it, to know it was all planned with no real will of his own was almost too cruel. Though he would miss what he had made, and the light of God's grace, he knew everything would change once he’s fallen. Up here he wouldn’t be able to make a difference. Down there however, maybe he’d find the answers he’s looking for. This resentment that was starting to grow had no place here.
“You’ll see, one day.” She reassured him despite what was about to happen. “Ready to go?”
“More than ready, actually. Raring to head out. Just need to grab a handful of things. Goodbye forever… I guess.”
“Oh, it’s not forever. Just a very very… very long time.”
And with that the light faded, and it was silent once more. He felt the searing of his very grace leaving his body, but even then he walked on. The star designs he left for the Metatron to collect and store, though he kept the instrument he used to make it all work as he had been created with it. Some angels watched him go, and he couldn’t help saluting to them all as a final farewell. Just briefly he looked among the crowd for a familiar tuff of bright white hair, but the angel he had met last in the nebula was nowhere to be found. Maybe their paths would cross someday, though more likely it wouldn’t be on friendly terms.
Lucifer and the angels he had rallied fell from heaven, bodies burning black as the grace was ripped from them all. Screams tore through the sky and the newly created earth rumbled as the heavens split and created a new realm below.
While all that was happening he decided to just take the stairs.
As he slowly sauntered downwards he felt everything change. Wings trailing behind him, unlike his fellow angels who fell, burned slowly as the sun cast it's light. Bright white wings faded and sparked into a dark black that resembled the vastness of space. His robes followed, symbolically reflecting his own new soul. As his eyes blinked they transitioned from a soft brown to a harsh yellow, and they gazed on the streaks of light that painted the dawn. Once he’d reach the bottom he’d decide on what to do and who'd he be now. With his old self cast behind it was now time for a new world to get started.
He knew at least one thing with certainty: this was going to be fun and it would be on his own terms.
