Tim was Bored with a capital ‘B’. He’s in another meeting with the Wayne Enterprise share holders discussing another useless topic that could have been an email. The phrase “Bored to tears”, did not even approach the amount of misery Tim felt at this moment. He was on hour 73 of no sleep and the hallucinations had just begun, which usually made things more entertaining, but today they made him want to bang his head on the desk until he passed out.
While considering the pros of a lobotomy via plastic coffee spoon his phone vibrated silently in his pocket. He glanced around the room making sure none of the investors were looking at him as he quickly pulled out his phone.
Please be a Batemergency! PLEASE be a Batemergency!!!
It was not an emergency. Instead it was his most amazing girlfriend sending him a picture of a jacket with a male duck embroidered on the right shoulder with an arrow pointing to it. Under the photo was text saying, “I’m going to sew this on the back of your suit coats.”
Tim cracked a smile before glancing back up. No one was paying attention to him and the useless power point was still going on. Glancing back down he was about to respond back when an idea on how to get out of this hellhole popped into his mind.
Duckboy 3:33 PM: Call me in five minutes and say I gotta come get you.
Tim stared at the phone waiting for a response. It took thirty seconds to see the text bubble form and another ten before he got her message.
TheScariestBean 3:34 PM: On a scale of one to ten what kind of emergency is this?
Duckboy 3:34 PM: Ten. Get me out of here.
TheScariestBean 3:35 PM: Put me on speaker. I'll even start crying.
Tim could have cried, tears of relief of course. “Mr. Drake.” Tim didn’t jump, it was a near thing though. Carefully tucking his phone into his pocket he looked back up at the glowering investor with an apologetic smile.
“I do apologize, Mr. Campbele, please continue. The idea of renovating all WE lobbies in the Gotham area from white to royal blue has been fascinating.” The man eyes him suspiciously but, considering Tim basically held all of the power as The CEO, he didn’t dare say more against him. Little blessing and all that he guessed.
Tim could feel his leg bouncing with anticipation as he waited for the call. The most exciting part of this entire meeting would be that he would get to leave it! Five minutes on the dot his phone rang, and Tim tried his best not to seem too eager as he pulled out his phone, much to the displeasure of the others. He gave them his best gala smile as he answered, putting the call on speaker like Marinette had asked.
“TIM!” Marinette cried out, her voice an absolute wreck, “Tim, you need to come home this instant!” She actually sounded like she had been sobbing, if Tim didn’t know this was all an act he would be seriously worried. “Someone broke into the apartment and-and they…”, her breathing was ragged and it really sounded like she was about to have a panic attack.
Taking the phone off speaker he held the device to his ear as he urgently spoke, “It’s alright Marinette, I’ll be there in ten minutes.” Tim was already out of his seat, face serious–his brain was jumping and cheering with excited joy. “Sorry gentlemen, but I need to leave. Send me the rest of your presentation and I’ll review it tomorrow.” And with that he was out the door and rushing to the elevator.
“Tim,” Marinette whined into the phone.
“I’m in the clear now,” He sighed, raking a hand through his hair.
“Oh thank goodness,” she groaned, voice back to her normal drawl, “so what do you want for dinner tonight?”
Tim couldn’t stop the stupid love struck smile from forming on his face–he’s just glad that she can’t see it. He loved this woman so much, he couldn’t ask for a better wife. “Hmmm, how about I take you out somewhere nice?”
“Oooh? How nice are we talking about?” He could feel her brow raised from here.
“Your choice.” He answered quickly as he hopped into his car.
“Red Robin.” He could hear her smirk.
Tim glared at the phone in his hand half tempted to just hang up then and there. Unfortunately, he knew that would not end well. “Why do you hate me?”
“See you soon Mon Amour.” The line went dead and Tim sighed as he let his head fall against the steering wheel. Despite the cruel actions of his wife, he couldn’t stop the smile from falling back onto his lips. Gosh he loved this woman. He truly was the luckiest man alive.
