Work Text:

“Look out.”

“How the frag am I supposed to- '' He stopped when the next step almost came as a surprise to him, halting his balance for a moment. Luckily the holds on each arm had stopped him from falling flat on his face. He could hear the snickers come from the right of him, only to be quickly silenced by a slap against armor.

Sunstreaker growled but otherwise said nothing in retort. Instead he took the time to right himself, shake his plating out, and then elbowed his twin harshly against the side of his chassis- Rightfully earning himself a satisfactory yelp. If only he could see his twin’s face to sweeten the moment. If only he could actually see anything. From the moment his helm smashed against the ground, the result of tackling a seeker midair, to the second he woke up on a berth in the medical quarters, Sunstreaker couldn’t see anything. ‘It was a temporary inconvenience’ Ratchet had said when he’d sprung up confused and, admittedly, terrified. It wasn’t like he was afraid of the dark, not at all, but the loss of a sense he had often relied upon was unnerving.

For the rest of this cycle and the next, the medic had ordered him on berth rest until they could repair his optic feed fully. The material needed for the surgery was fragile and hard to gather as it was not his optics that needed fixing but the relay sensors that were connecting what he was seeing to his processor. Compared to his brother who had been with him when the skirmish happened, Sunstreaker was certainly the unlucky bastard of the cycle.

Now the golden frontliner was being guided back to his habsuite with Sideswipe in one arm and a fretting Bluestreak on the other. The Praxian had been stuck to his side since he was online, patting his arm and back in a comforting reminder that he was there and at Sunstreaker’s service. The thought made his spark warm, even if Sideswipe’s jokes occasionally teased his temper.

“We’re almost there,” Bluestreak piped up before the two siblings could argue, his voice instantly brightening Sunstreaker’s mood, “ I just need to do the passcode and… In we go! Let's go straight to the berth. We can just hang out, relax and listen to music tonight and- Sideswipe can you warm up the energon and get the rust sticks please?” Gently tugging Sunstreaker’s arm to follow him, the frontliner could feel sudden warmth and an amused EM field disappear from his right side as Sideswipe wandered off to the kitchen area of their shared habsuite with an affectionate “Sure thing Blue.”

The absence of his brother’s field was shortly forgotten when Sunstreaker felt a gentle pat on his arm. “What do you think? Let’s just take it easy today?” Bluestreaker asked, his voice now softer as his servo wound itself with his. The warmth he gave off as well as his attentiveness made the Kaoni’s usual frown break into a small smile and, like he was entranced in a spell, he leaned forward to bask in his lover’s field. “I like that idea. Thank you Blue.” Though he was disappointed to not be able to see Bluestreak’s face, his voice and presence was enough to soothe his ire. He tilted his head, just slightly, as if he was asking for something but was too shy to express it aloud.

He wouldn’t need to, anyways, not with Bluestreak’s intuition. The Praxian’s chuckle made his spark flutter for a klik before a pair of lips pressed against his cheek, prompting his engine to purr in delight. Bluestreak giggled again at the sound but made no comment as he then led Sunstreak to their berthroom. By the time he could feel the berth’s edge against the back of his heels, Sunstreaker couldn’t suppress his exhaustion any longer and let out a relieved sigh. Another kiss was pressed to his helmfins along with a whisper of encouragement, “You did so well. I love you so much.” The weight of Bluestreak settled besides him and, a moment later, so would Sideswipe’s too.

“Hey Blue when I fall on my face in the next battle, think you can nurse me with cuddles and kisses too?” His twin teased once more but while taking considerable effort to make sure the cube of energon was in Sunstreaker’s hold. When he raised it to cover his retaliated insult and take a sip, the golden frontliner paused with a flicker of surprise when he realized the blend was with his favorite additives. It was tuned exactly to his preferences, making Sunstreaker huff aloud. Unlike Sideswipe, he wasn’t talkative but he still expressed his gratitude to both mechs with the push of his field. In return, he could feel Bluestreak’s love and affection brush his along with Sideswipe’s brotherly fondness.

Although without sight, Sunstreaker didn’t feel all that perturbed. He may look like he was surrounded in darkness but he knew that reality was farther from the truth. By his side he had his twin, the second half of his spark and the only piece of family he held dear, and on the other was their devoted partner, someone they equally loved and would give both their sparks for.
