Wednesday Addams’ Secret Playlist

Summary:

Wednesday Addams has a secret Spotify playlist only she and Enid know about.
You can listen to the songs on Spotify here as you read along https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4qPLksFjdnrwbg8xL4c0zK?si=TGv6Jrq1RIWwCyJd57a8SQ

Basically I think that Wednesday would expand her listening once she knew about Spotify, and would be drawn to the music I have put in this playlist.

Playlist does NOT have any classical music or anything in the soundtrack. That’s been done enough!!

Work Text:

When Wednesday was given the phone by Xavier Enid was so excited. She instantly made Wednesday download Spotify and it opened up a whole new world to her. She had only ever heard classical music, her parents' boring old time somgs or Enid’s sickly sweet K-pop. She never knew about heavy guitar music which she discovered when searching for her favourite words.

Enid showed her how to make a playlist for herself and this is it, with the reasons why she likes the songs and her favourite lyric from each one.  She shares it with no-one else apart from Enid.

Tracklist:

  • Misfits - Hate The Living, Love The Dead
      • Wednesday thought this was quite a romantic song and shared it with Enid, hopefully to gain her affection. It. Did. Not. Work.
      • “Put me together with the bodies of the dead, And I will wait for life and breathe again.”
  • Hole - Celebrity Skin
      • Wednesday instantly liked this from the first verse. She originally thought it might be a song about celebrities having their skin removed so was disappointed when it wasn’t but she liked the singer's voice anyway.
      • Oh, make me over, I'm all I wanna be, A walking study in demonology.”
  • Beastie Boys - Sabotage
      • Wednesday loved how angry this guy sounded. And she likes sabotaging things, especially the plans of people she hates.
      • “I can't stand it, I know you planned it, I'm gonna set it straight, this Watergate.”
  • Sick Of It All - Scratch The Surface
      • Wednesday always wondered why teens her age waste time partying rather than expanding their minds and broadening their horizons. Her mind was large, others’ were little.
      • “What is the force that drives the superficial, Tell me what keeps their minds remaining little, So afraid of what they'd see underneath the fantasy”
  • Voodoo Glow Skulls - Shoot The Moon
      • Wednesday liked how this band sang partly in Spanish, and they seemed to dislike modern technology as much as her.
      • “Morals and values are based upon your style of dress. Money in your pocket will become chump change if we don't make any progress”
  • Slayer - Raining Blood
      • Wednesday thought this was quite an inspirational song. Enid nearly threw up after Wednesday insisted she listen to it.
      • “Raining blood, From a lacerated sky. Bleeding its horror, Creating my structure, Now I shall reign in blood.”
  • Misfits - Dig Up Her Bones
      • She thought this was one of the most romantic songs she had ever heard. Enid wasn’t keen on it at all, but learnt the lines to sing the chorus with her. Wednesday wondered if Enid would dig up her bones when she died, which would be such a loving gesture.
      • “Point me to the sky above, I can't get there on my own, Walk me to the graveyard, Dig up her bones”
  • Green Day - Platypus (I Hate You)
      • Enid was not happy when Wednesday sent this song to Yoko, in response to Yoko calling her short. Wednesday wouldn’t apologise until Enid said no more kissing until she did.
      • “Red eye, code blue, I'd like to strangle you, And watch your eyes bulge right out of your skull, When you go down head first into the ground, I'll stand above you just to piss on your grave.”
  • The Distillers - Beat Your Heart Out
      • Wednesday was totally called out by this song. Enid hit her with love like an express train, the only person, living or dead, that made her heart race. And dammit with Enid's werewolf senses she had known it all along.
      • “Baby, You make my heart beat faster.”
  • Misfits - Hunting Humans
      • Wednesday loves this song as it reminds her of the childhood games she used to play with Pugsley. When she told Enid this, Enid rang Morticia and had a long secret conversation with her. Despite death threats Enid will not say what they talked about.
      • “Upon this threshold of disaster, The birth of the eleventh plague. The fires burn at night and I begin to doubt the smell of burning flesh will ever fade away.”
  • The Offspring - The Kids Aren’t Alright
      • Wednesday had caught Enid crying when she was listening to music, and found her listening to this. Enid explained how it seemed to describe her shattered dreams with such a crappy family as hers. As usual Wednesday offered to murder the Sinclairs but Enid still said no. Wednesday listens to this to remind herself of how other people don't get the great upbringing she did, and it makes her want to make Enid happy every day.
      • “Chances thrown, Nothing's free, Longing for, used to be. Still it's hard, hard to see, Fragile lives, Shattered dreams"
  • The Creepshow - Zombies Ate Her Brain
      • Wednesday thought this jaunty song made a lovely childs nursery rhyme. Enid secretly wonders if Wednesday would sing it to their first child.
      • “Well once upon a time there was a sweetheart, a pretty girl with lips of red. She took a walk down by the graveyard and out of nowhere something grabbed her head!”
  • Misfits - Scream
      • One of Wednesdays favourite sounds is screaming, so it was so nice for someone to make a song about it.
      • “It's driving me insane, although you tried to fight, You're dragged from the silence where you hide”
  • Ten Foot Pole - ADD
      • This reminds her of Enid, who should really be on medication for her ADD but Wends secretly likes her craziness and doesn’t want her to change.
      • “Ritalin will make me smart, at least that's what my teacher said”
  • Green Day - 2000 Light Years Away
      • After her first kiss with Enid she went back home and was pining for her, Enid said this song described how she felt being apart from her across the USA. Wednesday cried when she first heard it but she would never admit that to anyone.
      • “I hold my breath and close my eyes and dream about her”
  • The Bombpops - CA in July
      • She loves this as it reminds her of the first time she kissed Enid, on her first visit to SanFran in the summer after the Hyde incident.
      • “We caught fire like California, In July, on the night when I kissed you."
  • Green Day - Reject
      • Wednesday heard this song after seeing the title and being intrigued. She was sure she had said almost these same words to people in the past.
      • “What's the difference between you and me? I do what I want, and you do what you're told. So listen, and shut the hell up, It's no big deal, and I'll see you in hell”
  • Off With Their Heads - Nightlife
      • This is a raw song for Wednesday, when she found it, it hit home a little too hard. She plays it for Enid to show her that she wants to love her as she deserves but years of hiding away feelings since the death of Nero has made it very hard to open up to Enid, but she promises her she will do eventually.
      • “Don't wanna be like this, anxious and angry, hopeless, upset all the time, Unable to get back the feeling I lost somewhere along the line.”
  • Municipal Waste - Wave Of Death
      • This one is obvious. Just listen. .
  • Skunk Anansie - Weak
      • Wednesday worries that she isn’t good for Enid, she has self doubts she wants to rid herself of but she won’t admit it's a problem. This song sits uneasily with her but whenever she listens to it she gets a little braver and knows one day she will share her worries with Enid.
      • “In this tainted soul, In this weak young heart, am I too much for you?”
  • Misfits - American Psycho
      • Someone once told Wednesday when they looked at her it was like “looking into the eyes of a psycho”, so this song makes her feel all warm and fuzzy inside. She loves compliments like that.
      • “A machine of penalty, the sweet insanity, fade to black tranquillity”
  • Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me
      • This was the song Enid played for Wednesday as they sat on a bench at Point Lobos in SanFran. They had been for a walk from the SInclair house and Enid had looked upset. It was Wednesday's last day in SF and Enid had started crying as they sat down. Wednesday had demanded to know what was wrong but Enid wouldn’t tell her. Eventually she said quietly “I think Taylor might say it better than me” and handed Wednesday one of her ear buds. It was one of Enid's nauseating pop songs but as the chorus came round Wednesday understood. She had looked at Enid, whose bright blue eyes glistened with tears, and couldn’t help what she did. She cradled Enid’s cheeks and brushed the tears away with her thumbs, leant forwards and kissed her - as she had been dying to do since they had met. After eventually parting, Enid’s smile now stretching from ear to ear, Wednesday had said “I do belong with you Enid. Forever.” This is now Wednesday's favourite song, and she will stab anyone who dares to tease her about it.
      • “If you could see that I'm the one who understands you. Been here all along. So, why can't you see? You belong with me.”
