Work Text:
"No, Crowley, wait!" Aziraphale called after him. "I am so, so sorry. I don`t have to forgive you, you have to forgive me! I made a terrible mistake!"
Crowley did not listen to him. He excited the bookshop, and made his way, to his Bentley. Aziraphale had attempted to talk him into going to heaven with him once more.
*Before*
It had been almost a year since Gabriel and Beelzebub left, to live on their own. Crowley did not often have the energy to come out of his flat (which he got back from hell) Whenever he went somewhere, he almost always felt like he saw Aziraphale there. It had let to some pretty emberassing moments. The few times he did muster up the curage to go outside, it always drew him to the bookshop. At first he hated it, but now, after a few times, he liked going there to visit Muriel. He was very fond of the Angel, and somehow found comfort in them. Sometimes, there was just a tiny problem. Aziraphale would sometimes come back down to earth to visit his bookshop. He actually did not like Muriel too much. He was always scared that they would mix up his order, or sell a book that was importend to him. Muriel did not mind Aziraphales visits. They new that he had to let his anger out at someone, and hey, how many Angels could say that they had been screemed at by the supreem Archangel because of how they organise books. Not many probably, but because their visits to heaven were sparse now, they didn`t actually know. Crowley did not like it when Aziraphale visited. He didn`t know when the Angel would pop up, and try to talk him into coming back to heaven once more. He would be lying if he said that he didn`t consider it for some time. He would be able to have Aziraphale back, would be an Angel again, but would also have to live with the knowledge, that he might have to decied to kill someone, that didn`t do anything, except for questioning god. That already didn`t end well if you were an Angel doing it, but if you were a human? Pretty small chance of survival. He knew that somethings change, and you didn`t die directly anymore, but sometimes god made sure to give these humans pretty painful deaths, and not even hell liked that.
Today had been one of these days again. It had started of as a fairly quiet day. He got up, screemed at his plants for a bit, tempted a few humans, and then drove his Bentley to Ninas coffeeshop. He had started to check up on her and Maggie more frequently, since they actually started dating. Today was their one month aniversary of dating, and Crowley had gotten them an enormous bouque of flowers. He was not supriesed to see Maggie in the coffeeshop with Nina. The only people who buy records at her shop were now Crwoley, Muriel and Gabriel and Beelzebub. She said that Aziraphale visited her once, but that was month ago. It had been a pretty long time since anyone had seen the Archangel around. It made Crowley dance around the bookshop, because hhe didn`t want to run into hum, but he had to go today, because he hadd promised Muriel to show them the proper way to make tea. Muriel had been taking lessons from Crowley on how to actually seem humanlike, and not what ever way they seemed before.
"Hello Nina, hello Maggie" he said as he entered the bookshop. At first they didn`t even recognize him behind all those flowers, but once he poked out his head, Maggie shot around the counter and engulfed him into a hug. "Oh Crowley, you thought of us, how nice of you!" "Of course I did. I couldn`t not bring you anything on your aniversary!" Nina then also came around the corner to thank him. "Thany you Crowley. Are you going to visit Muriel? They have been coming in here, talking about how much they missed you" He then proceeded to explain the lessons he had been giving Muriel. "Oh that is so sweet of you, don`t let us hold you back" Maggie coo`d. With that he excited the coffeeshop and went over the street to the bookshop.
As soon as he was inside, Muriel had thrown themself into him, and the two hugged. "I missed you Crowley. It is so lonely here sometimes. I think i have started to annoy Maggie and Nina, they don`t seem to like it when I visit them.", they explained the sudden hug,and looked down, onto the ground. "Oh, they don`t. Nina just has that kind of face that makes you assume that, and Maggie has been trying to stop her from making it.", he gave his opinion on the matter. "Are you sure?" "Defintly!" They did not get much further then that, until the door flew open, and Aziraphale almost flew in. Luckily for Aziraphale Crowley stood in his way. Crowley would not call that `luck`. "Oh, Crowley, it is nice to see you again. Have you changed your mind by now?" the Archangel questioned in a happy tone. "No, I have not. I still thing that heaven is too cruel sometimes. Or more like, all the time." "But Crowley, think of all the advanteges you would have. You would even stand over simpel Angels, like Muriel!" Now, that angered Crowley. "Do NOT call Muriel simple! They are such a young, adventures and learning Angel. They have made, so many imrovments in just one year, that you would think, thar they are very, very special. Never, ever have they messed up one of your books! So don`t go and bring Muriel into this!" Aziraphale looked at him with a shocked expression."And no, I have not changed my mind! I am so, so sorry Muriel, I will come back another time"
*Before end*
As Crowley took a seat in his Bentley, he started to cry. He felt horrible. Sometimes, he really wishes that he didn`t kiss Aziraphale on that horrible, horrible day. He also hates Aziraphale for just letting him leave after saying "I forgive you". Did he disgust his Angel? Did Aziraohale even see him as a friend? No, he couldn`t let his thoughts spiral again. That would never end good. It never did. He was so in his own mind, that he didn`t even notice that Aziraphale got into the passenger seat. "I am so, terribly sorry Crowley. I was such an ass the past year" Crowley could only scoff at that. "I don`t know what just happened there, but I did not mean any of it. I was originally here, to tell you that I changed my mind." Now that had Crowley question some things. "What do you mean by that?" he asked. "I am no longer the supreme Archangel. I still am an Angel, and I don`t think that will ever stop, but I am nothing without you. I took way too long to realise that. I want to apologise for all the hurt I`ve caused you. I have decided that I will take back my duties in the bookshop, with Muriel as my assistant, in case they want to do that. If they don`t, they will get a promotion to Archangel. I love you Crowley, I think I always have, I was just too much of an arse to realise it." "You definetly were an arse, but I love you aswell. It will definetly take sometime untill I can trust you again, but we`ll get there eventually." With that the two looked at each other, both crying. "Can I?" Crowley asked. Aziraphale just nodded. So Corwley finally did what he had been waiting for a whole year, yet wished it didn`t happen the first tme. He kissed Aziraphale. The hugged each other for a long time afterwards. "Lets go talk to Muriel" Crowley said, "Their a lovely Angel" "MAybe we should Adopt them?" Aziraphale joked.
Now laughing they walked back into the bookshop. Ofcourse Muriel decieded tp stay, and everyone got their
Happy End
