Chapter Text
“Oi Sawamura. Will you stop that?”
Sawamura looked up from the manga he’s been reading and onto the guy sitting in front of him.
“Stop what?” He laid the book flat on the second year’s desk while trying not to lose the page he’s in.
Lunch time just started when the first year dashed to the second years’ hallway to hang out with Miyuki and Kuramochi in their classroom. He’s currently sitting on the seat in front of Miyuki’s, his chin resting on his desk. Miyuki seemed to be reading some sports magazine and Kuramochi, on the other hand, left for the cafeteria to get them some melon bread. It was a penalty for losing against Miyuki in some video game the other night. As to why Sawamura also gets a melon bread, he doesn’t know.
"Wait, actually, they didn't even mention about me getting a melon bread too. What if Kuramochi senpai doesn't get me a melon bread? I’m soooo hungry."
Sawamura would’ve rushed to the cafeteria by now if only he wasn’t so deep into the manga he’s reading. Which was interrupted by Miyuki Kazuya.
“What???” Sawamura asked again as he sniffed.
“Stop crying, Bakamura. They'll think I made you cry.” Miyuki complained despite the amused look on his face. He rested his elbows on the desk and leaned a bit, just enough to reach Sawamura’s face and wipe the excessive tears with his hands.
“Well, I can’t help it! Ninako’s crying!!” Sawamura whined not minding the action of the other. The two has been really close with each other lately. This kind of intimacy has become pretty normal between them. Even the other students aren’t bothered by their actions anymore.
“I don’t know who that is and I don’t care. Don’t cry in here, you’re making my desk wet.” Sawamura’s eyes and nose were red from crying over fictional characters that the sight of him almost made Miyuki let out a snort.
“Miyuki Kazuya, tell me, are you a robot? Do you know what sympathizing means?” Sawamura sarcastically said with furrowed eyebrows.
“Do you know how to spell sympathizing though?” Miyuki smirked at Sawamura who just rolled his eyes at him.
“Yo, Miyuki. There’s a girl who wants to talk to you,” Kuramochi who just came back pointed to the door where a girl was anxiously waiting. Miyuki looked in the direction of the door for a few seconds before making his way to the said girl.
“I guess he’s really popular huh,” Sawamura mumbled.
Kuramochi made a face. “Yeah well, she’s the third girl to confess to him this week.” Sawamura just let out a hum as he sniffed, eyes still fixated on the door where Miyuki and the girl was standing a few seconds ago.
Kuramochi dropped what he got from the cafeteria on the desk and in front of Sawamura snapping his attention away from the door.
"One..Two…"
The older boy took one melon bread and Sawamura immediately complained something about ‘inequality’ upon realizing that his senpai didn’t get him a melon bread.
“Hyahaha! I don’t owe you anything, Bakamura! Inequality my ass!” Kuramochi snickered as he began to eat.
“Whatever!” Sawamura took the other bread, “I’m just gonna take Miyuki’s!” He’s probably gonna spend lunch with that girl anyway!
Sawamura opened the plastic wrapper. He was already taking a huge bite off the tasty looking bread when----
“WAMURAAAA!!”
---Kanemaru came calling so suddenly that it made him choke.
Kuramochi laughed his ass off as Sawamura continued to choke on the bread. Kanemaru went and slapped his back to ‘help’ and it made a horrifyingly loud sound that made Kuramochi clutch his stomach even more because tears were starting to form in the corner of Sawamura’s eyes.
A few hyahahas later, the bread finally went down into his esophagus (probably lol). Kanemaru then coughed and stated what he came for.
“Someone’s looking for you,” he said with a bit of an annoyed voice.
“Eh? Who? Why? Where?”
“Shut up! Let him finish, will ya?!” Kuramochi who seemed intrigued smacked him on the head.
“It’s a girl from the class next to ours. Her name’s Sonoda and she said she wants to meet you by the garden.”
“Wait what?” Sawamura’s eyes widened. “You’re telling me our school has a garden?”
“That’s what you’re worried about?!” Kuramochi and Kanemaru shouted in unison.
“Just go, you dumbass!” Kuramochi kicked him out the door.
“I feel sorry for the girl,” Kanemaru shook his head as he bid goodbye to the senpai.
Meanwhile, Sawamura wasn’t so sure which way to go. He just learned about this garden’s existence so how the hell was he supposed to know where it is?! With the melon bread still clutched in his hand, he explored the surroundings of the school. And coincidentally, he almost walked in on the confession of the girl named Misaki to Miyuki ("I don't remember the school being this small"). Fortunately, they didn't notice him so he didn't seem to have disturbed anything.
Sawamura was behind a wall and the two were only about three feet away so he could hear the soft voice of the girl as she stammers and try to express her feelings to a robot. The said robot was standing there with both hands in his pockets. He seemed to be listening to the girl’s confession though, which Sawamura found thoughtful.
“Ah… If they get together, they’ll be called M&M..”
Sawamura Eijun is a dumbass.
However, he’s not really all that dumb when it comes to his emotions or feelings. Not really. So when he felt a prickling heat forming inside of him, somewhere just below his heart, he recognized it right away. How could he not? It’s frustratingly similar to the feeling he gets whenever the coach switches him out off the mound. Or when he sees his rival Furuya on the mound, striking out batters he could’ve struck out himself.
Of course, he feel proud and relieved whenever he sees his fellow pitchers do their best for the team, but that’s not the kind of emotion he's feeling right now. What he’s feeling right now is a matter of “I wish I was the one standing on that hill” or “I should be the one standing there”. But what Sawamura cannot comprehend is where this kind of emotion's coming from or to whom is it directed at.
"Am I jealous because he’s got girls going all ‘kya kya’ over him and I don’t? Hmm but it’s not like I wish for girls to go all kya kya over me."
It bugged him but he decided it was not a big deal as he walked away.
“It’s not something worth wracking my brain up for….... At least I don’t think so...” Sawamura thought as he took a small bite from the bread, an attempt not to repeat the choking incident a while ago.
“If Miyuki heard that, he’s probably gonna say ‘What brain?’,” he giggled at the thought of the other boy. He gulped, a light blush forming on his cheeks, when he realized how the thought of Miyuki Kazuya has become pleasant for him.
“Gahhhh what is going on with me,” he said to himself before he stuff the remaining bread into his mouth. His eyes widened right after when he remembered the task that slipped off his mind. “DHU GWARDEN!!!”
"Wh-What I'm trying to say i-is.... I.... I Iike y-you senpai.."
"I'm sorry but I can't reciprocate your feelings," Miyuki quickly replied. He bowed and was about to walk away when the girl opened her mouth to ask him a question.
"Do.. Do y-you like......."
Miyuki arched an eyebrow as he waited for her to finish.
"U-Uhm... No n-nevermind." She finally said before she bowed and ran away.
“Do I like what?”
Miyuki headed back to the classroom only to find Kuramochi alone, looking outside the window.
"Where is that idiot?" He heard him say.
"Where is Sawamura?" Miyuki asked as he approached his friend.
"Oh, you're back," he said. "That's what i’m asking too. Check it out." Kuramochi pointed down to a small secluded area behind the building next to theirs. It wasn't very far so he could still see the girl sitting on a bench, picking the flowers on the bushes around her.
Miyuki was about to brush her off as one of Kuramochi's dream girls when he saw a familiar figure running it's way to where the girl was.
"Is that..?"
"The idiot of a prince has finally arrived," Kuramochi snickered.
Puzzled, Miyuki leaned on the window pane next to Kuramochi. From there, they saw the girl stand to meet Sawamura.
"Is that what I think it is," Miyuki muttered in disbelief.
"Shocking eh? I didn't see it coming either," Kuramochi said. "Look at him! I can totally see his tomato face all the way from here!" Kuramochi growled, half proud and half pissed. “I'm gonna pummel him later.”
"..."
Moments later, the girl bowed her head and started to walk away.
"Uwoo?!"
Miyuki frowned when he saw Sawamura grab the girl's arm and sputter something. He doubted it was something funny but the girl looked like she was laughing from whatever the idiot said.
"What kind of development is this?!" Kuramochi yelled.
Beside him, the usually sharp-tounged Miyuki who never ran out of snarky remarks stood in silence.
