Hours pass and a familiarity settles about Lottie. The sun has begun to set and there’s an eerie buzz in the air, like the trees are alive, spreading the good news of their arrival. It’s off putting and wrong, but it almost feels like they’re welcoming her home. Her stomach shifts and her throat tightens.
