"Arisugawa. Happy birthday."
Rio held a tray on his hands, a cake clearly on top. The candles' light was dim against the campfire.
"I'm surprised you remembered. Hell, even I forget sometimes." He laughed.
"I hope it'll be to your liking. I borrowed Samatoki's kitchen, so it might have gotten damaged on the way."
"This isn't really your style though, what for?"
"I originally planned on barbecuing some alligator meat, but Jyuto convinced that a cake would be more appropriate. I apologize if you would have preferred that instead."
"No way! I mean, I would have liked it, but I like this too. I like everything you make."
"I see. I'm glad then."
Rio's smile was warm. It reminded Dice of sitting under sunlight, searching for heat in those cold winter months. He wanted to return that heat.
It took him a few seconds to realize what happened, hands touching, lips centimeters apart.
"I-I'm so sorry! I don't even-"
But Rio's face wasn't nearly as panicked. His gaze was lost in the distance, as if savoring the moment. Dice on the other hand had turned into a tomato. He lowered his head, but the other held it up gently.
They were close once again.
