Work Text:
I waited for you. Through every day, week, month, even a year I waited. But you never arrived.
A cold breeze blew past her. Nene Kusanagi, the one still clinging on to a promise made but never kept.
It’s freezing…but that’s winter, right?
He made the promise in the middle of summer. With flowers adorning his hair, and a smug grin. He said “Wait here my dear, and I shall return a better man for your love.”. Guess that was a lie.
I’m scared to admit it, it has to be.
She’d arrived at the place he said he’d meet her at. Every day, she’d venture there. She’d watched the autumn leaves fall, icicles form on the trees, and the pretty pink sakura blossoms bloom. Every day, she’d ignored the cries from her friends that he wasn’t going to turn up. But she ignored their calls. For she knew that he would keep his promise.
He surely…no, he’s not like that. He keeps his promises. What reason would there be to lie to me like that?
So she waited. In the falling snow she waited. In the cold depths of winter she waited. She could have sworn that it was warmer just a week ago, it seemed like summer sped right by, and autumn felt even quicker. So why was winter going so slow? She knew why. It was her second here. The cold definitely contributed to that too.
It feels weird, having been here before. It’s been over a year…maybe I should finally give up and leave. Yeah, that sounds right. He’s just a stupid liar. I should have never given him any of my time of…
Tears started to flow down her already puffy cheeks. Maybe that was what she needed to hear. To finally get it through her head. He wasn’t going to come back.
But then.
“Hey! Nene! Wait up!”
Was that…his voice?
A mess of long blonde hair with those peach tips that she could recognise a mile away. A look of fear was plastered across his face. He was worried. But…it was..
“Tsukasa Tenma!”
Nene walks forward. And then she clenches her fist. Then she slaps him clear across the face.
“Wha- Nene what was that for?!”
“What do you mean what was that for?! Why..why are you like this….you big idiot”. Nene said. All of the emotions flooded her face. Tears streamed down, her eyes red and her fists still clenched. Tsukasa took those fists, and held them gently.
“I’m so, so sorry. It shouldn’t have taken this long at all, so I apologise deeply for my absence. Please, you do not have to forgive me for how I made you wait.”
“You’re so stupid…I waited so long just for this….so why doesn’t it feel satisfying?” She buried herself into Tsukasa’s shoulder. He was weirdly warm, which just made her want to stay even longer.
Tsukasa pulled her into a hug, letting her weep into his arms. “We can figure the rest out later. I need to explain myself properly so you can understand-”
“Can we just go inside? Please?” Nene wiped her tears away, letting Tsukasa guide her forward. I was right. He doesn’t like to lie. But why would he make me wait so long? Whatever, he’s here.
“Please don’t leave again.”
