Break My Mind

Summary:

Instead of an assassin, DX is battled by an entity who's a real stickler for rules.

("Gamebreaker", but my own EXE replaces Pico)

Work Text:

DX's ears pricked up when he heard the sound of footsteps growing closer. Another character to destroy, perhaps?

Getting a closer look, he realized the newcomer looked nothing like anything he'd ever seen. With four gray eyes, a smooth, entirely hairless body, and hands ending in two sharp points, the entity was something to behold.

The stranger then began to speak.

"Hello. I want to play a game."

His voice was high, and a bit echo-ey. Not at all what he expected judging from his appearance.

The virus nodded stiffly. The challenger's top pair of eyes crinkled at the edge, indicating a smile.

"Wonderful. I just know this will be fun."

As the song started, Downbeat smirked to himself. He couldn't wait to see what his opponent had in store for him.

He was proven wrong almost immediately.

Glitched arrows flew horizontally behind DX, seemingly vanishing behind the nearby column.

The self-proclaimed King was enraged by the sight. How dare he bend the very fabric of the game to his will?! Only he allowed himself to do that, and even then, it was only ever a last resort in case things got too out of his control.

"You- Why are you doing that? Stop it." He asked, irritated, and his pupils were starting to flare in anger.

His words, however, fell on deaf ears, as the hedgehog simply continued.

With a grunt of disapproval, Downbeat did his best to counter the notes, eventually landing a hard smack to DX in an attempt to get his attention.

That was his first mistake.

The now-distorted entity just kept singing, now showing a more aggressive side.

Downbeat's rage came to a boiling point when the creature started sending waves of corrupted arrows his way, and he snapped.

"STOP IT!!!" He screamed, grabbing DX with both hands and shaking his shoulders vigorously.

Strike two.

The hedgehog's fur darkened to an almost cobalt-blue shade, and he stretched up taller and taller, until Downbeat was but a speck to him.

At this point, Downbeat knew he was in over his head, but he didn't care.

DX knew just how weak this random pile of code was, but even he felt slightly intimidated by his sheer drive to defeat him.

The two were neck and neck, with only one thought in their minds.

'I'll squash this irritating little bug, just like with all the others.'
