Work Text:

"I don't see why you're nervous."

Ginny's eyebrows shot up to her hairline. "Oh, don't you? Really?" She couldn't help the sarcasm. "You don't see why I'm nervous?"

She glanced up into the mirror, watching Harry watching her as he sat on the bed. He shrugged nonchalantly.

"No, I don't. The two of you are really good friends, right? And it's only a casual thing. Butterbeer and a stroll around Diagon. Should make things easier."

Ginny scoffed. "Or, it could ruin everything." She patted her hair one last time, and turned to face him. "What do you think?"

When Harry smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkled. Even now, years after their split, the sight caused a responding smile on Ginny's face. He stood and placed his hands on her shoulders. Before he could speak, however, there was a loud knock at the door.

"You look beautiful, Gin." He leant in to place a soft kiss on her cheek. "Go get her."

She nearly yelped as he smacked her arse on her way out the door. Harry winked at her as she turned to scowl at him. Wrapping her shawl around her shoulders, she sighed. She needed to focus. Plastering a smile on her face, she opened the door.

"Ginny!"

Luna's smile could have lit up Ginny's entire house. It certainly lit a fire in her stomach. Her own smile turned natural rather than the nervous almost-grimace she was certain it had been. She stepped forward, her arms extended. Luna moved immediately into the embrace, wrapping her own arms around Ginny's shoulders.

"It's so good to see you." Ginny's voice was slightly muffled in Luna's strawberry-scented hair. When she stepped back again, Luna was still smiling up at her. "Luna?"

"My boys told me not to get too excited. But I think I have a right to. I think…" Stepping closer, Luna closed her eyes as she breathed in. "I think I have a very good right to be excited about tonight."

Ginny's stomach swirled with a combination of emotions that were difficult to identify beyond nice. Wrapping her arms around Luna's waist again, she pulled her close.

"You know, I think you do as well."

Luna's quiet laugh warmed Ginny from the inside. Stepping backwards, she broke Ginny's grip on her, but made up for it by lacing their fingers together.

"Come along, then. We have a date scheduled."

Ginny glanced back over her shoulder once to check that Harry had come down to close the door. The grin he shot her from the front window was cheeky. Turning back to her current partner, she shoved her ex out of her mind. Tonight was about the future, not the past. And, if this beginning was anything to go by, her future looked bright.
