Work Text:
Tommy glanced out the car window tiredly for what felt like thousandth time despite it only having been only two weeks since the rehearsals started. Phil had asked a few questions toward the beginning of the ride home, which were basic such as, “How was it?” or “Did anything interesting happen?” Which usually got a sentence or two in response before it fell back into comfortable silence.
Honestly, he could really go for a brownie right about now.
He knew creating them from scratch would take far too long for his liking. Which left the singular answer of using the mostly prepared batter from a box. “Um, Phil, this is kinda random, but can I make brownies tonight?”
Phil’s eyes scanned his face for a fraction of a second before he responded with a simple, “Sure mate, I don’t see why not,” The older man paused, “I’m pretty sure there’s a box of brownie mix in one of the cupboards.”
The car quieted down once the short conversation ended.
Within a few minutes they were pulling into the driveway and parking.
Tommy swiftly grabbed his bag and rushed inside and dropped everything off in their respective places before he ran to the bathroom where Tommy quickly cleaned his hands.
He briefly considered where his father could’ve put the mix before rummaging through a few cabinets and retrieving the box.
After scanning the box’s instructions he pulled out some metal mixing bowls, measuring spoons, a whisk, and the rest of the ingredients.
He first added the brownie mix, than whisked in the eggs, water, and oil. Since he had a bit of spare time until the oven was preheated, he checked the time the brownie batter would need to bake for. Tommy poured the mixture into the pan swiftly with trained motions.
After carefully opening the oven door carefully, Tommy put the pan in, closed the door, and set the timer to forty minutes.

Tommy ran halfway across the house when the timer went off to check if the toothpick came out clean when he stabbed the center of the brownies with it.He let out the breath he hadn’t known he’d been holding when he didn’t have to put them in for longer.

After letting them cool for twenty minutes, Tommy cut a slice of the brownie to eat.
