Work Text:
The kids were arguing, trying to work out a way past one of Eddies well planned, well placed traps.
Steve watched as Dustin’s voice rose and rose, becoming more irate as the others kept shooting down his plan.
Wincing, Steve got up, heading to the kitchen to get away from the loud noise. He found loud sounds uncomfortable ever since Billy had punched him unconscious, it caused him to have an instant headache, and if he wasn’t careful, it would turn into a migraine.
Walking into the kitchen, he grabbed a can of mountain dew and cracked it open.
Leaning against the counter, he gulped down a quarter of the can before spying a box on the island unit. Frowning, he put down the can and walked to the box, opening it and finding sugared doughnuts.
Smiling, he grabbed one, closed the box, and went back to leaning against the counter.
Taking a bite, he sighed as the sugar hit his tongue, then closed his eyes as he chewed, realising he hadn’t eaten since the morning.
The doughnut was gone far too quickly, and he looked at the box on the counter.
He knew Eddie brought treats for the kids, and he probably brought just enough for them to have one each, but his stomach was practically begging him for more.
Glancing over towards the dining room, the sound of the kids still arguing came from the closed door. Before he knew it, he was opening the box and had another doughnut in his hand and was biting into it as Eddie appeared through the dining room door.
Panicking, Steve turned his back and shoved the rest of the doughnut into his mouth and chewed as fast as he could.
“You alright, Harrington?”
“Umhumm” he nodded, back still turned to Eddie as he chewed and chewed.
“Kids not being too loud?”
“Uh uhh.” He shook his head as he swallowed, grabbed his can, and turned back to Eddie. “Nope, all good.”
Eddie looked at him with a small frown before looking at the box on the island unit, then back to Steve.
Steve smiled, can still in hand as Eddie came up closer to him and practically stood with only an inch between them before reaching out to the cupboard next to Steve’s head, opened it and grabbed a mug, all the while still looking at Steve.
Things between them in the last few months had been weird, but not in a bad way, in a I will flirt with you at any given moment way, and it was definitely a two-way street, Steve always made sure to give back as good as he got. But Eddie always started it, and with him standing so close, Steve couldn’t help as his heart rate kicked up, and his body became astutely aware of the heat rolling off of Eddies body.
“Get peckish Harrington?”
Steve blinked.
“What?”
Eddie smiled as he brought the mug he held to his chest with his right hand, while his left came up, cupped Steve’s face while his thumb ran over Steve’s lips.
Steve stayed stock still, his eyes holding Eddie’s as the thumb ran from one corner of his mouth to the other, then Eddie brought that same thumb to his own mouth and sucked it in, the pad of it on his tongue.
Steve felt his legs go week as Eddie moaned softly before pulling his thumb free with a pop.
“You had sugar on your lips.”
“Oh...” Steve swallowed, his hands clinging to the can he still held.
Eddie didn’t move away for a moment, just stared at him before smiling and walking away, heading back into the dining room.
Steve watched him go, then once he was alone, he turned, putting the can down and sighed, lowering his head and taking a deep breath to try and calm his racing heart.
He didn’t know what exactly was going on between him and Eddie, didn’t know where it was going exactly.
But what he did know was that he was definitely going to be eating a lot of sugared doughnuts from now on.
