The soft smile sparked America's curiosity.
It's not often that one saw the stern german smile, especially regarding another person that wasn't his brother or Japan. Even Italy usually received the glare treatment more often than not. But him? Apparently Germany had decided he was someone worth smiling at.
Walking over to the blond man he wrapped an arm around his shoulders, feeling him tense up before relaxing as soon as he noticed who it was that was touching him.
That was rare, too, America noted quietly.
Germany would only ever allow Prussia to touch him, and even then he usually seemed tenseand uncomfortable. Not now, though. His entire body language was calm and he gave a nod to America, the hint of a smile still on his face.
“What's got you in such a good mood today?”
Germany's answer was as straightforward as he was, but it surprised the american nonetheless.
“You.” “Me?” “Yes.”
At least he had the decency to blush, even if just a bit, after he confirmed it, and America blinked in surprise before a grin spread over his face and he wrapped his other arm around the german as well, pulling him into a way-too-tight hug.
“Aw man, you're too sweet!”
The american laughed, pulling the other closer. It had taken them a long time to mend their friendship after, well, everything, and America couldn't help but be happy that, finally, things were looking up for them.
(Had America been more observant he might've noticed Germany's blush darkening or felt the way his heart rate spiked up, or maybe even the way his fingers curled around America's arm, just for a second, before pushing him away. But as it stood, America had not noticed and Germany wouldn't tell him what he really meant by that any time soon.)
