“Hia, I'm home", he greeted his husband as soon as he entered their apartment. Nunew came from the grocery to do some shopping for all the stuff they need for this week. Those mainly include Lily's diaper, baby formula, bath essentials and a few fruits and vegetables that they ran out already. He dropped the shopping bag on their kitchen counter and slowly walked towards the living room.
What he saw melts his heart. His husband is currently lying on the couch with their daughter sleeping on his chest for her afternoon nap. He sat on the floor and just stared at the two figures sleeping peacefully.
Being first time parents was overwhelming for the both of them. The first two months were the struggle. Countless sleepless nights, taking turns in taking care of their newborn child. Sometimes Nunew would cry in the bathroom asking himself if he can really be a good parent to Lily. He's only 24 and Zee 29, too young for this big responsibility. But it's nothing compared to the happiness their daughter brought to their life.
The resemblance of Lily and Zee is so obvious. Lily got Zee's eyes, long lashes that perfectly sits on her cheeks, and that thick brows. But she also got Nunew's plumpy lips and chubby cheeks.
And just when he's about to stand up, Lily stirs from her sleep waking Zee up. Nunew tried to hush her so that she could go back to sleep. "Hey, you're here already" Zee said in a soft tone making sure to not wake up their daughter.
"Yes I just got here a few minutes ago and saw you two sleeping. How long has it been since her sleep?, he asked.
"I think it's about 2 hours now since she napped. She should be awake anytime soon".
"Would you like me to carry her?"
"It's okay Nu, I can still manage. I'll just wait until she wakes up. Besides, we don't want to deal with a tantrum if we interrupt her sleep".
"I know Hia, you are really spoiling her. You could have put her in the crib instead."
"It's not a big deal plus I like her when she's sleeping on my chest. Reminds me of a certain someone who loves to do it", he eyes Nunew who is now blushing.
"Stop it Hia. Yes I used to love that but now I can no longer do that with you", he jokingly replied but the pout from him was so obvious.
"Aww, are you jealous babe? Well you can sleep on my chest later tonight. Or we can even do something more" and then he winked.
"Why would I be jealous over my own daughter? You're silly Hia but yeah I'm up for that. I kinda miss the old times."
While they are reminiscing about their pre-parent era, Lily tries to wiggle from her dad's chest. Trying to wake up. She slowly opens her eyes and blinks. She is such an adorable child, never making a fuss whenever she wakes up from her nap. And when she's napping on her crib, she usually waits for either her Dad to pick her up.
"Hi, baby! Did you have a good nap?" Nunew asked using her baby voice.
And as soon as she saw her Dad, she smiled right away and extended her hands to be picked up. And who is Nunew to say no to that. He misses her even if he was only away for a couple of hours.
Lily is already 9 months old and she is a cheerful child. Once he got her, Zee tried to stretch his body making sure it would not go numb from their sleeping position on the couch.
"Hia, can you prepare her milk please, I'll go get her diaper changed."
"Okay babe", Zee kisses both their foreheads before heading to the kitchen counter to do his task.
He changed her diaper and just in time when he's done Lily's milk is ready. He sat on the couch while Lily on his lap excited at the sight of her milk bottle.
"I'll leave you two here so I can put the groceries in the refrigerator and prepare our dinner".
"What would you like for dinner Nu?, Zee asked the other man while he's checking what they have.
"Hmm," he paused. "I think we still have chicken in there Hia. Tonkatsu will do and I grabbed our favorite salad from the grocery earlier. We can pair that one".
"Alright, Tonkatsu it is".
After he's done feeding Lily and making sure she burped, the two transferred on the mat laid out in their living room. A makeshift play area for them. It has all of her current favorite toys. Mostly blocks of different shapes and colors. They spent hours playing and giggling together.
Zee on the other hand can hear their laughter from the kitchen and keeps on glancing at them. Heart swelling from the interaction of the two - love of his life.
After a while he called Nunew telling that their dinner was ready. He also heated some baby food for Lily. They make it a habit for the three of them to sit down and eat dinner together.
Nunew sets Lily on her high chair making sure it's buckled up. Once she's set, the sight of her food excites her even more. Another trait Lily got from Nunew is that at a young age, it's obvious she's a foodie. She can eat anything and is not picky at all. And when eating, they let her eat by herself. Teaching her to be independent, not minding the mess they have to deal with later. So they're eating peacefully.
"Thank you for dinner Hia", he said after scraping all the food from his plate. Between the two of them, Zee is indeed a good cook. But breakfast prepared by Nunew is something Zee loves as well. So in the end they take turns in preparing their food.
"Alright, that's enough baby. I think you're done eating", Nunew said softly when he noticed that Lily started to play with her food already. A signal they have picked up when she doesn't want to eat anymore.
"Hia just put the dishes on the sink, I will deal with that later after her bath".
"No need babe, I will do the dishes. Just go wash her up. Also she prefers you to wash her up".
Yes, that's true. When it's Zee who bathes Lily, it will take them 30 minutes maximum to get done because she keeps on splashing water towards Zee. Whereas with Nunew, it's a peaceful 20 minutes of bath time only.
After that being settled Nunew went to their bedroom first to prepare her night time clothes and the things they need. He laid them on the bed for easy access later. Once that was done, he went back to get Lily and to start her bath.
Bath time is one of her favorite, she gets to play with her rubber ducky, the rubber whale and bubbles from her baby soap. Nunew has been used to this routine already so he can manage washing her up alone.
But the next part of their night time routine seems to be the struggle because Lily doesn't want to wear her clothes if its not her Daddy Zee who will do it.
Yes you read it right. She's a brat and only wants her Daddy Zee to put her clothes on. So while waiting for Zee to finish in the kitchen, Nunew would apply lotion on her with a bit of tickles everywhere to earn the most beautiful giggles from their daughter.
"And why is my princess not wearing her clothes yet?" he joined them on the bed. Lily trying to escape from the tickles crawling towards Zee's side.
"Well you know why Hia. She only wants you to put her clothes on, here." He grabbed the clothes and gave it to Zee.
"Alright let's get you dressed up, my Princess".
Once everything is done they spend more time playing together. Lily attempts to stand up on her own. It's been a while since she's been doing that, which surprised Zee and Nunew when the first attempt lasted for like 5 seconds. A progress from her.
And when they least expected, they have witnessed Lily's first step. Zee is holding her hands, barely there to guide her until she can stand on her own. He tries to let go of his hand but still keeps it at the side.
On the other side, Nunew extends his own hand ready to catch her in case she fall. 1-2-3 steps, she's able to walk on her own towards Nunew. They tried to do it again and this time Zee's phone was ready to take a video of her walking towards him. Both Dads were so happy and proud of their girl's milestone. They also took a selfie to commemorate this special day.
They have pictures of all of Lily's first. From the day she was born, her first piercing, the first toy she grabbed was a colorful book (or would you consider it a toy? whatever), her first reaction to what food tastes like. All of those are framed and hung in their living room.
When they noticed that she started to get fussy and antsy that's a sign she's ready to go to bed.
"Hia, you go take a shower. I'll put her to bed. She seems to be sleepy already."
"Are you sure Nu?"
"Yes, I'll shower after I put her on the crib."
"Okay then."
He picked her up from the bed and carried her. Her face goes straight to his neck seeking comfort from her Dad. Nunew would always hum a song for her to sleep. After 10 minutes he can hear her little snore. That's the time he can already put her on the crib. He slowly moved her away from him, put her down and tucked her in.
Just in time for Zee to come out of the shower. "Is she asleep?"
"Yes, she's sleeping already", Nunew replied. "I'll go take my shower now too", and proceeds to the bathroom.
While Nunew is showering Zee pulled up his gallery and watched the video he took earlier. He didn't know how long he'd been watching it and he didn't notice that Nunew was already by his side.
"Hey, why are you crying Hia?, Nunew asked in a worried voice.
Zee was startled at that and he quickly wiped away his tears. "I just can't help it Nu, she's so big already. She even walks now".
"I know, time really flies so fast Hia. I can remember when she was born, she's so tiny. Were both afraid to carry her because we thought that we may drop her or crush her little bones", this time it's Nunew that is crying already.
Zee embraced Nunew while they were both staring at their daughter sleeping peacefully. Their love for their daughter is immeasurable and they will do anything to protect her and give her a bright future. They both kissed her goodnight and prepared to go to bed as well.
"Let's sleep Hia", Nunew said.
"Not yet Nu", he said with a smirk on his face which drew Nunew a confused face.
"Let's give Lily a baby brother or a baby sister", Zee said playfully and pinned Nunew down to their bed.
"Hia stop", he giggled while Zee was showering him kisses all over his face.
"It's been a long time since we've done it. I miss you Nu", he said directly to his ear resulting for Nunew to moan a little bit.
Zee trailed kisses from the shell of his ear, to his cheeks, his jaw and capturing his plump lips. He doesn't need permission because Nunew opened his mouth right away, welcoming his tongue. The kiss was passionate leaving the both of them breathless. Their lips parted to catch some air and then Zee whispered, "I love you Nu".
"I love you too Hia", Nunew whispered back before clashing his lips back at Zee's . And off they go baby making.
