Work Text:

"Keep your eyes closed, lindo ."

Virgil had never found it harder to keep his eyes closed, not even before the UCL finals the year before. He didn't need to open his eyes to hear the excitement in Alisson' voice, though. It was Christmas Eve, and Virgil had found it hard to get to sleep after the team's Christmas party. So Alisson had dragged him out of bed, wearing Virgil's Christmas sweater, and brought him into the hall.

"Where are we going?" Virgil wished he could yawn, but he couldn't. That was what insomnia could do to someone, he figured out. "We've probably passed all the doors right now."

Finally, Virgil felt himself stop. "We're here now, open the door!”

Virgil removed the blindfold, and jumped just a bit when he saw Alisson grinning in front of him. The younger man bounced on the balls of his feet, fluffy hair bouncing along, and his blue-green eyes twinkled in the dim light of the hall.

"Open it, open it, open it! Come on Virgil, open it .”

"Okay, okay then!" Virgil gently pushed Alisson aside, gripping the doorknob. "What's this door going to do, light up?”

" Abra ! I've been working on this all day…”

Virgil shook his head fondly as Alisson chattered, basically bouncing. He nodded along, even though he couldn't understand half of what Alisson was saying, before opening the door.

"Holy—”

"Virgil, é Natal!”

It didn’t take a genius to figure out what that meant. "I wasn't going to swear.”

Alisson had led Virgil to one of the spare bedrooms, which was simply yet joyously decorated in all kinds of lights and Christmas baubles. The windows shone like bejeweled mirrors, deceptively warm and shiny with fairy lights shining through the icy frost. The bed had been pushed to the side, and a gramophone sat on the dresser. An ancient-looking record was already on the player, and the needle seemed like it couldn't wait to drop.

Virgil picked up the record cover, snickering when he read the title. "'Stompin' At The Savoy'? Doesn't sound very romantic to me.”

Alisson dropped the needle, taking a seat on the bed. "I don't know about romantic. But it sure is pretty."

Savoy, the home of sweet romance,

Savoy, it wins you with a glance,

Savoy gives happy feet a chance to dance

A gentle smile grew on Virgil's face. He pulled Alisson off the bed and twirled him around in the air. Alisson squeaked in surprise, but allowed Virgil to lead him around the room in the latter's best attempt at a slow dance. It was awkward at first, but their footsteps soon synced in a sort of strange waltz.

"Do you even know how to dance?" Virgil chuckled after Alisson stepped on his toes again. It didn't hurt much, though. "This is the sixth time you've stepped on my toes."

Alisson blushed faintly, trying to hide it in the shadows of the dimly-lit room. "The only dance I know by heart is the macarena, and I'm not exactly sure that's romantic. So you'll have to put up with my best attempts at a box waltz."

"Box waltz? It's more like a dodecahedron," Virgil joked. "This is the thirteenth time we've passed the gramophone, and Ella Fitzgerald's not even finished singing about Savoy."

"Say, where is Savoy anyway?" Alisson twirled Virgil around like a top, knocking him over in the process. "Ay Deus, eu sinto!"

"I'm fine! Nothing that a few attackers haven't done to me before." Virgil brushed off his jeans and climbed to his feet. "You know what we should do? Open the window!"

"Are you kidding me, Virgil? It's freezing outside!"

"It's beautiful!"

"It's December!"

It was too late. Virgil had already opened the window. Icicles fell off the ledge and onto the floor, and a blast of icy air hit them both. Virgil yelped and dove under the covers--only to bump into Alisson, who'd already bundled himself in the quilt.

"You know what? I'm with you," Virgil grumbled. Already he was shivering from the winter chill. "This is freezing. Whoever made winter this cold has something wrong with them.”

"Says Mr. Winter-Is-Beautiful. You know, I should break up with you for this.”

"You wouldn't last a day without me!”

"I wouldn't.”

"Neither would I, honestly." Virgil tugged on the edge of the comforter, untucking it from Alisson' blanket burrito. "Now let me into your toasty little cocoon. Your poor vriendje is freezing his butt off.”

"Now you see that I have a point." Alisson draped the blanket over half of Virgil's body, leaving the other part exposed. "Are you warm now?"

Virgil huffed, scooting closer to Alisson. He sighed in relief at the presence of extra body heat. "Nobody would believe me if I told them you're a little devil. You're stealing my warmth.”

"It's your fault! You opened the window." Alisson curled in on himself, only his head sticking out of the blankets. "Now I'll freeze to death like a mammoth.”

Virgil rolled his eyes. "You're not cold, you're just being dramatic.”

Alisson burrowed further into Virgil's side. Virgil smiled and wrapped an arm around him

“Hey...are we still going to dance?”

“No way. Thanks to you opening the window, you're stuck with me until Christmas morning.”

Virgil yawned. The cold air was starting to make him strangely sleepy. "I can work with that.”

"You yawned. Time for bed, caramelozinho ." Alisson looked even sleepier than Virgil. Then his eyes widened with a start. "Virg, we left the music on repeat.”

“And so?”

"If we hadn't already come out to the rest of the team, this would already do it for us."

The home of sweet romance,

It wins you at a glance,

Gives happy feet a chance to dance.

Just like a clinging vine,

So soft and sweet as wine,

So soft and close to mine, divine.

"Oh...yeah, I see what you mean.”

"Perfect. Now go to sleep, we'll need to be well-rested before the other guys tease us in the morning."
