When Lewis was told that George’s niece and nephew would be in the paddock for the race, he was nervous at the prospect of meeting them. George obviously wanted Lewis to meet them and he was excited at the prospect of introducing his niece and nephew to his boyfriend. It wasn’t entirely ideal that they would be meeting over a race weekend but it wasn’t as if they had had any free time to meet before. This year’s calendar was bigger and the kids did have school during the week so there was virtually no time to meet. Lewis wanted to create a good impression in front of George’s niece and nephew since his boyfriend spoke so fondly about them.
By the time Lewis arrived into the paddock on Sunday morning, George’s family were already there. The Brit was reunited with George’s parents as well as his siblings. George was there to introduce him to Leo and Milly. He smiled down at the two kids as George placed a hand on both Milly and Leo’s shoulders.
“Lewis, this is Leo and Milly, my niece and nephew. Leo, Milly, this is Lewis. Lewis is my boyfriend and teammate.” Said George.
Lewis held out his hand to shake Milly’s hand. The young girl smiled up at Lewis and the Brit relaxed. She reminded him of his own niece. He then stuck his hand out towards Leo who was a little bit more shy than his sister and he stuck to George’s side even if he did hold his hand out. Lewis couldn’t help but chuckle.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you both. I’ve heard so much about you.”
“Uncle George told us that you have a dog.” Said Milly.
Lewis smiled.
“I have a dog called Roscoe. Would you like to see some pictures of him?”
Lewis pulled his phone out as Milly nodded frantically. The Brit crouched down so that Milly could see photos of his dog. George gave Leo a gentle shove and he appeared at the other side of Lewis to look at the photos. The young Brit shared a smile with his parents as Lewis was engrossed in showing Leo and Milly photos of Roscoe.
George and Lewis did have to get on and although George did get to have lunch with his family, it wasn’t long before he disappeared for the driver’s parade. He did hang around in the motorhome before he was due to do his pre race routine and then head to the garage. He was surprised to see Lewis hanging around but then he had been spending time with his family. Before they were due to head to the garage, Lewis greeted George’s family. They wished him well before the race. Lewis ducked down in front of Leo and Milly.
“I hope you will be cheering for me as well as your uncle George.” He said.
“We will.” Promised Milly.
Lewis chuckled and exchanged fist bumps with the two of them before he led his boyfriend down to the garage after he had exchanged hugs with his family.
After the race, George was at the fan zone and he had invited Milly and Leo onto the stage as well. They didn’t drift far from his side and they were talking to the crowd as well. Although it had been a long day for them, they were still excited about the race. George hadn’t managed to get onto the podium but Lewis had and both Milly and Leo gasped at his trophy when the Brit returned from his media duties.
By the time George and his family returned to the motorhome, Lewis was sitting in the hospitality area on his phone watching old videos of Roscoe. Milly and Leo rushed over to him to tell him about being on stage and he let them ramble on about their night. George watched on fondly as Lewis’ head went between Milly and Leo as they kept on interrupting each other. He seemed to love them just as much as George loved them and it was nice to see.
It wasn’t until much later that Lewis finally got to see footage of George on the stage at the fan zone with his niece and nephew. He kept watching it on repeat with a smile on his face. He couldn’t help it, it was fast becoming one of his favourite videos to watch. There was no better sight than uncle George looking after his niece and nephew.
