Nari hurled the honey bread at Mirae, smacking her forehead.

“What the heck!” Mirae scowled.

“Oh, sorry! You were supposed to catch it,” Nari said, smirking slyly.

“Mirae, let me look at your face,” said Seonji, “she didn’t throw it that hard, did she?”

“Yeah she did! In five minutes, I'm gonna be seizing on the floor due to head trauma. Nari, I hope you’re happy! You treat the bugs near Blanco's house better than me!”

“Oh stop it, it wasn’t a hard throw, you know I have poor upper body strength!”

“Mirae, I saw a video of a little dog having a seizure on the floor, it was kicking its legs and had its mouth wide open. Please don’t tell me that happens to humans too! I don’t want to see you kicking,” Seonji said worryingly.

“Tsk, that’s a dog, Seonji. Human seizures are different, like this,” said Mirae, who proceeded to lie down and squirm her body, bouncing up and down. “At least, that’s how they did it on Hospital Playlist.”

Nari rolled her eyes. “Do you want the bread or not?”

“I do! I want it… it smells so freaking good. I can feel its soft and fluffy texture right through the plastic. But man, my stomach feels like it may explode from all those waffles.”

“Maybe Chanyang wants it, he's been in that corner since lunch started,” said Seonji.

The girls turned their heads over to the corner of the room, where a large and lifeless body was lying on the floor, an alligator plushie covering his face.

“Ugh! How many times have I told him that the floor is dirty and a proper nap needs a pillow?!” Nari exclaimed.

“Just leave him. If he wanted food, he’d come over. Let me save this bread for my after school snack,” said Mirae.

Just as she was unzipping her backpack, Nari bent down and snatched the honey bread from Mirae’s hands.

“What the heck?” asked Mirae.

“Well… I, uh, just remembered that this bread wasn't for you."

Mirae titled her head, annoyance crossing her face. "How dare you! You gave me this bread and now you wanna see me suffer?"

"Enough with the dramatics! You see, I, uh, I promised Yeonhee that I would meet with her at lunch.”

“What for? Is there a project I didn’t know about?” asked Seonji.

“No... She’s a friend isn’t she? I want to give her one of our best breads, something to make her day,” said Nari.

Mirae stared into Nari’s eyes, examining every blink and eye movement.

“Uh, what are you staring at me for?” asked Nari. She rubbed her palms against her skirt.

“Are you telling the truth?” Mirae asked.

“You think she’s lying?” Seonji asked innocently.

“You think I’m lying?”

“Look at me Nari. Look deeply into my beautiful orbs and tell me you’re going to give this honey bread to Yeonhee.” Mirae lowered her gaze, a suspicious look overtaking her face.  

Nari gulped. Man, could Mirae look scary.

“Yes, I’m telling the truth! Oh my god, why would you think I’m lying?” Nari said hesitantly.

“We’ll come with you, then.”

“No!” yelled Nari. Seonji and Mirae were shaken. Even Chanyang slid his plushie away so he could see.

“I mean, no, no you don’t need to! Stay here and take a nap like Chanyang. Yeonhee needs, uh, some help with something going on. I don’t want to disrespect her boundaries, since she only asked for me. I mean, she likes you two as well, but sometimes one person is, you know, fine,” said Nari awkwardly. She rubbed her palms against her skirt again.

The girls stared blankly at Nari. Mirae let out a big sigh.

“Right... So you’ll give this bread to Yeonhee only, ok?” said Mirae, her eyes narrowing.

“I was planning on doing that, sheesh!” Nari grabbed the bread from Mirae’s hand and picked up her bag.

“Nari, we’ll see you after lunch!” Seonji said sweetly.

“Yeah, I’ll see you all later. Bye!” Nari skedaddled towards the door and popped out.

“Mirae, why would you talk to Nari like that?”

“I didn’t mean to come off as aggressive. It’s just…she’s been acting differently lately. She’s been leaving us at lunch around this time.”

Seonji looked down at her fingers, rubbing her nails on top of each other.

“You don’t think…she’s been seeing Mr. Kwon?” Seonji asked solemnly.

Mirae took a deep breath. “I fear I’ve been thinking the same thing. But if she won’t tell us anything, then we shouldn’t pry too much into her business. We can hope she really is just going to go see Yeonhee.”

“But you are nosy, that’s not like you.”

“Yah!” Mirae picked up her milk to throw it at her.

“Please don’t waste that milk! Let me drink it instead of you throwing it!”
