Chapter Text
Meeting 1
Kanami buries herself in her red warm scarf, hiding from the cold winter. The school felt warm and cosy unlike the outside. Outside it was white, beautiful. Winter wasn't one of her favourite seasons, but it was one hell of a beauty to look at.
She could hear her shoes stepping onto the soft snow as she walked home from school. She could hear the soft sound of children playing, and could see small snowflakes fall to the ground. One fell right on her nose which made her giggle.
‘Once I get home I should make some hot chocolate…and probably one for my brother too’ she thought, staring down at the snow beneath her.
She finds herself hearing someone mumbling in front of her.
He had blond spiky hair, a black school uniform from a different school, and horrible posture. It hurt to see him walk too.
She could hear him quietly rant about something in an angry tone. ‘Not only does he have an horrendous posture, but he has anger issues? How sad.’ She pouted, thinking about how his parents had to deal with such a guy.
Suddenly he got hit with a snowball straight to the face making her laugh out loud for a second until she covered her mouth. ‘Now that has gotta hurt.’
She could see children running away from the guy, laughing at the middle schooler that they threw a snowball at.
“YOU BRATS, WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!” The blond yelled back as small explosions sparked out of his hands. 'What an interesting quirk..’ she thought. “HEY YOU WATCH YOUR MOUTH!” Kanami’s eyes widened as she saw the male stare at her in anger, still trying to conceal her laughter.
“What do you mean?” She pretends to act confused. “I KNOW YOU WERE LAUGHING.” he stated. “Listen here boom boom boy, you must have been hearing things cause you've just been hit with a snowball..” she slowly walks trying to make her way around him to escape. “Which means you might be, you know..a little out of it?” She tilts her head and makes a run for it causing the blond male throw a fit.
“Hope we meet again!” She yells as she runs home. The boy didn't seem that bad, he seemed more funny to tease since he's got a short fuse.

Meeting 2
The smell of coffee washes around Kanami as she enters the cafe that her parents own. She works there to help her mom out, but can also gain some money out of it.
“Well look who finally got up from bed.” Kanami saw her mom standing behind the counter serving Mrs.Lou her tea. “You could've at least woke me up before you left.” She heads to the staff room to put down her bag and grabs an apron.
Kanami looked at the clock and it was 12:47 am. The cafe opened at 9:30 am, oh how late she was.
After putting the apron on she headed out of the staff room to join her mom.
“Good morning Mrs.Lou!” Kanami greets the old lady as she pulls her black hair into a ponytail. “Good morning to you sweetheart. Are you getting enough sleep?” The sweet lady asked. “Ohhh you know, I have a lot of homework to do and finish.”
“Looks like you have more red hair growing huh.” Her mom stated, touching the place red hair started to grow out of. “Oh yeah. Maybe I’ll be a redhead when I'm older!” The thought of her being a redhead made her mother laugh. “I hope not, you look better in black hair. Things a quirk can do huh.”
Kanami puts a hand on her mom’s shoulder. “Hey mom let me handle the next few hours. Go and take a break.” Her mom gave her a smile, she was thankful to have a daughter like her. “Thanks love.” Kanami watches her mom head off into the staff room.
Kanami knew she was gonna be here for a while.

For owning one of the most popular cafes in Japan, Kanami was really good at maintaining her job alone when no one could come to work. Even though the cafe is really popular, only a few people work there, making their pay kind of high.
Kanami’s mom had gone out earlier to go and buy some groceries for tonight's dinner, which left Kanami alone at the job for today.
After serving a bunch of people, she was left tired hoping that no one would need to order anything for a while. She needed some rest especially for a 14 year old.
She took a seat behind the counter, sighing, feeling defeated after all the coffees and teas she had made. She felt herself quickly get up as she heard the doorbell ring from someone's entrance. There appeared a blond spiky haired male with red eyes. He wore black sweatpants and a black shirt with a skull on it.
‘Oh, it's him.’ She thought. She remembered him when she was 13 when he got hit by a snowball from some kids. It still made her laugh to this day.
“It's you from last year!” He pointed towards her. “Oh so you remember me huh! Have you been thinking about me all this time?” She leaned against the counter giving him a wink. “Shut the hell up, I did not!” He yelled at her as his cheeks turned a little pink. Everyone started to look at them. It left him quite embarrassed.
“You work here?” He asked, scratching the back of his head. “Oh! Um yeah, my parents own this cafe so I just work here to help out.” He nodded his head. This was the first time Kanami had seen this guy act calm, or normal.
“How about you? What do your parents do?” “They both work in the fashion industry.” This caused Kanami to laugh. “ I can tell you got that from your parents, you have one hell of a style.” She heard a scoff come out of him. “Watch your damn mouth, I got great style.” He crossed his arms giving her a small smirk.
“Anyways, what would you like to order?” Kanami asked, continuing her job. “I'll get a large flat white to go.” He told her, taking out a card. “Ok! Just insert your card there.” He paid for his drink and she handed him his receipt.
“I didn't know you were into coffee, young man?” She teased him. “Listen here idiot. I am 14 and the coffee is for my mom.” He rolled his eyes as he took a seat to wait.
'He's not so bad when he's not yelling huh.’ She went to go make his drink.
. . . . .
“One large flat white is ready!” Kanami yells, waiting for the red eyed male to grab his drink. “Thank you…um” the male grabs the drink as he struggles to say his words.
“What's..what's your name?” He asks, fiddling with the sleeve of the cup. He hears a small giggle come out of her. “Cho Kanami.” A smile appears on her face. ‘Cute..’ he thought but quickly shoved it away. “My name is Katsuki Bakugou, here's the tip.” He hands her 2000 yen and a folded piece of paper. “Thanks for the coffee.” He waves her goodbye as he walks out the door.
Kanami unfolds the paper and finds a handwritten number. “Call me..” she whispers. It was Bakugo’s number. She scoffs at the paper, thinking about this bold side of him.
“What a cutie.” She slips the paper in her pocket saving it for later.
—------- 1 year later —-------
“Honey, that Bakugo boy you've been talking about, is he also going to UA?” Kanami's mom asks placing down a bowl of cereal in front of her. “Yeah, he's really been dedicated to becoming a hero.” She took a bite of her cereal before continuing their conversation. “I still can't believe I have to miss a few days before I actually start to learn there mommm.” She whined slamming her head on the table.
“Well that's what happens when you get recommended to UA and have been told to wait three days after the first day.” She shrugged, leaving her daughter defeated. “They didn't even let me do the entrance exam..” “Honey, it's only three days. Plus they knew you had potential from the day you saved those kids, remember?”
She was right, the day she saved those kids had completely left her mind.
- Flash Back•
‘Brother is gonna kill me if he finds out I went to work sick’ she thought to herself as she walked down the busy street. She had worn a mask and a hat to cover herself (Mostly to hide from her older brother).
The street felt peaceful until the sound of glass shattering filled her ears. Kanami saw glass shards scattered in front of a convenience store.
People started screaming and running away from the scene.
Three people emerged from the window. One held a bat while the other held a gun. And the last guy, she was guessing he had a quirk.
Since they were robbing a convenience store they seemed like low class criminals to her.
The man seemed to have a telekinesis quirk. He started to make things levitate and crash into each other. Causing many people to be in grave danger.
Kanami looks around to find a way to hide until the heros arrive but something caught her eye.
Two children stood in the middle of the street alone, holding on to both of each other. She then sees the guy levitate two cars and start moving them towards the children.
She had to do something.
Kanami ran to the convenience store and picked up a large glass shard from the ground and sliced both of her arms, causing blood to seep out. She accidentally cut her arms bigger than she intended to. She quickly ran towards the children placing herself slightly in front of them, putting her hand above them.
She had made a shield with her blood above them. With all her strength she was able to keep the cars from crushing them, protecting them.
“Go, go find your parents.” She softly said to the little ones with a smile on her face. The two kids ran away saying a small ‘ thank you’ before looking for their guardian.
Kanami pushed herself away from the cars and slid to the ground as the cars crashed down.
She remembered how messy her quirk could be after using it seeing how her blood walls splattered everywhere.
Thankfully hero's started showing up.
She got up and saw a camera facing her and took a run for it.
She didn't notice how much blood she was losing.
Kanami was so thankful she was wearing a mask and hat, she couldn't bear being on the news.
Kanami found herself in a dark alleyway away from everyone. She had looked down to notice that she had made a blood trail and looked towards her arms. Both of them had a long cut across them, fresh blood seeped out and dry blood was everywhere around her arm.
“Shit…” she mumbled, sliding down the wall. Kanami quickly took off her hat and mask.
She felt pain throughout her arm and was weak all over.
“If I could just regenerate..”
Kanami tried to keep quiet as she hovered her hand above the wound, slowly healing herself, then repeated it to the other arm.
When she finished she laid her head against the brick wall followed by a sigh of relief. She pushes her hair back feeling the beads of sweat fall.
“That was pretty impressive kiddo.”
Kanami was startled by the sudden deep voice that approached her. Without a thought in mind she immediately grabbed her hat and pointed it towards the man.
“Eraserhead?” Her eyes widened at the sight of the man in front of her, her favourite hero.
“What harm is a hat going to do to me, kid?” Kanami quickly puts the hat down, hiding it by her side. “Hehe, sorry. My adrenaline is kinda high right now.” “You know what you did back there was dangerous right?” A small smile grew on her face as she fiddled with the drawstrings of her hoodie. “I had a feeling you would say something like that, but I saved them right? That's all that matters to me.” He sighed at her answer but he was impressed. He never really had seen anyone act like this at her age. Expect for one person.
“But I will say… that quirk you have is impressive and unique.” The young girl quickly turned her head to face the man. He swore he saw stars in her eyes. “You think so?!” Kanami's smile grew bigger because of her favourite heros words. “Yes I do. Do you plan on going to UA?” He asked. She was silent for a while thinking about her answer.
“I'm not sure if I should.” She told him and continued her explanation. “I'm guessing you saw what happened back there, using my quirk has consequences. I have to hurt myself in order for it to work, which is cutting or stabbing myself.” Kanami took a moment before continuing. “I know I'm strong and smart enough to apply but… regenerating myself takes a lot of energy, and my doctor said my quirk can only be used when necessary, or I might die from blood loss.” She frowned, disappointed that her dream of being a hero would cause her so much harm.
“How about I put you in as a special recommendation?”
“What?”
“Well you come from a pretty successful family right, not to mention you put out a good impression of yourself when you saved those kids.” Aizawa kneeled down in front of the young girl, putting a hand on her shoulder. “I'm pretty sure the principal would understand your circumstances, and I think he'd like you a lot and take interest in you.”
Aizawa was shocked when the girl had quickly pulled him into a hug. “Thank you so much you don't understand how much this means to me!” Aizawa was awkward at first but slowly returned the hug. “Just don't cause too many problems while you're there.” The two separated from the hug and both got up from the ground.
“What's your name?”
“Cho Kanami”
Kanami sees him pull out a card from his pocket, handing it to her. “The names Shota Aizawa. This is my business card, I'll call when I have more information about your application to UA.” He walks off without saying goodbye to the younger female.
‘Wow, so cool!’
- End of flashback•
“I guess you have a point.” Kanami picked up her spoon and took another bite of her cereal.
“So do you know what you missed so far?” Her mom asked “Yeah Bakugou told me everything. Today they did an apprehension test to see if they are fit to become hero's. They'll be continuing that tomorrow.” Kanami picked up her bowl drinking the leftover cereal milk. “ I wonder why the school is making me join class late, it seems like I'm missing important things.”
“Speaking of Bakugou, does he know you're going to UA?”
…
“No…”
Kanami looked at her mom to find her glaring at her.
“Listen, I wanted to surprise him! And he knows I have a quirk. I just never told him what type..”
“You stupid girl.”
Her mom comes by taking her empty bowl away to the sink. “Anyways, if they are making you miss school they must have a reason for it, and they will tell you soon.”
Kanami's mom always knew what was best for her, and that was her quirk, having a hunch for things. That meant she knew what and what not to worry about.
“Ok mom~ Whatever you say.” Giving her a big smile.
“Now tell me why are you eating cereal in the afternoon?”
“Mom! It can be a snack too!”
