Work Text:
Bill thought his date with Fleur Delacour was going well enough but he was nervous. He desperately wanted to impress her. So he filled in the empty spaces with family anecdotes and tall tales of adventure.
"There was this time Charlie and I sneaked into Ravenclaw Tower on a dare.... I thought we might have detention until we left school for good!"
Fleur sipped her wine and listened, laughing in all the right places. Their dinner arrived, allowing Bill to pause in his storytelling and catch his breath. He surreptitiously watched Fleur as she ate, her table manners impeccable.
Once their plates had been cleared away, Bill began again. "Have you ever tried asking an Acromantula permission to take its venom?"
"No, of course not." Fleur gasped and shook her head. "What did you do?"
When the wine bottle was empty and the dessert tray waved off, Bill nervously opened his mouth, a story about his first assignment with Gringotts on the tip of his tongue, but Fleur held up her hand.
"You do not need to try to impress me with your stories, Bill." She reached across the table and lay her hand over his. "I am already impressed."
