Tiffany Valentine is used to being a celebrity, but she’s not used to the peace she finds in the little book store she’s ducked into. She can see the staff, both of them, working. Her gaze lands on the woman in the wheelchair seconds after she chooses to ignore the blonde working the book stacks, the woman clearly wants peace and quiet… but this woman, the one in front of her, is quiet, peaceful and clearly at home just shelving new stock. Unworried by Tiffany’s presence, not seeming to know who she is, or that she’s supposedly some big celebrity.
She wanders for a while, watching the woman work, her eyes locked to the other woman enough that she stumbles a little over a loose floorboard, finding herself blushing when she knocks over a small stack of books, scurrying to pick them up, her smile small, shy and honest.
“Sorry…”
She murmurs into the silence, finding herself watching as the woman in the chair re-stacks the books for her, setting them back on the table and taking her hands in soft but worn hands.
“Are you alright?”
“Fine… I’m… fine.”
“Is there something I can help with?”
“Depends… you got anywhere I can… sneak out?”
“Not really…”
“Oh…”
Tiffany sighs slightly, then shrugs.
“Guess I’ll just have to… wait them out.”
“Or…”
A pause then…
“Kyle, come here a minute…”
The other woman in the store, a blonde who looks enough like herself to throw people off, emerges from the stacks.
“You two could probably… switch clothes? Kyle could distract them for a bit?”
“I can’t ask you to do that.”
Tiffany murmurs and Kyle smiles slightly.
“Sure you can, just buy a few books so Nica here has money to pay rent… please?”
In the end Tiffany doesn’t leave for a while longer, she does buy books, picking out several classics and a couple horror and romance books, enough to keep her busy for a week or so at the very least with the way she reads a lot when she can find peace enough to do it and she finds herself exchanging numbers with both Nica and Kyle. Later, much later, she’ll wonder how she got lucky enough to meet a pretty brunette bookseller and her beautiful blonde best friend, much less find a home with them both.
