Chapter 1: Prompt twelve: Transformations

Chapter Text

She woke up, the belts that bind her body to the table were fastened to incommodity.  She tried to move her wrists and ankles to no avail.  She should have been feeling fear in these conditions, but instead, she felt irritation.

“What is the meaning of this?!”  She shouted.  “Do you even know who I am?!”

A mysterious figure stepped out of the shadows.  dressed in a wolf pelt and a plague doctor’s mask.  “I don’t know, do you?”

That question halted her anger.  Who really was her?  She didn’t have any kind of memory of who she was, who were her parents, where was her home.  She was a stranger to herself.

“I thought so.”  The alchemist said to the arrogant subject. “In front of me, there is a stranger who doesn’t know her place.  But don’t worry,”  he stabbed the girl’s arm with a syringe and pushed the liquids in her veins.  “steel yourself and change, or else you’ll meet a terrible fate.”

The drug made her vision blurry; her anger was the only thing that was keeping her conscious enough to see the figure walk back into the shadows.

The “test subject” blacked out.

She woke up, again, the rugged floor felt like she was caged like a wild animal, and once she felt her limbs moving she knew that something was not right.  Once her vision cleared, she saw the opened gate that was in front of her.  A sound of whimpering lured her to the cage next to her.  she tried to reach for it, but noticed how her hand was… fuzzy.  She turned back from the cage and looked for a mirror; she knew that she was human before gaining consciousness, so seeing her ears on top of her head surprised her.  The eyes, the snout, the paws, the tail, the prisoner was freaking out realizing that she had become an animal with human features.

The crying stopped.  The prisoner turned around and noticed someone else behind her.  Someone who looked like went to the same experiments that she had.  She looked sad, yet disappointed.

“Chloé…”  The foxkin spoke with a frail voice, confusing the girl in front of her.  She touched the tag that was pierced in one of the girl’s ears.  “That’s your name in the tag…”

Chloé felt relieved that she wasn’t the only one in the place.  She looked at the tag the foxkin had.

“Zoé…”  Chloé took a deep breath.  “How long you were been here?”

“I… I remember seeing you sleeping while I was thrown here.”

“Then why didn’t you wake me up?!”  The impatience in Chloé’s tone scared Zoé.

“I did…  you were unconscious…”

“Utterly ridiculous.”  The mutated human marched away from the cages.  Leaving Zoé alone in the room.

The coldness of Chloé’s personality made Zoé cry.  She thought Was she really the one who would get them out of this predicament?

“Hey, Zoé.”

She heard a voice in the doorway.  Chloé came back to her.

“Were you awake when you were dragged to these cages?”  Chloé asked.  Zoé nodded.  “Then you know this place better than me.  Lead the way.”

Holding paws, the foxkins began their escape.

In an all-seeing mirror, the cloaked figure looked at the two “experiments”, pleased with what he saw.

“And now, this game of chance begins.”  He said, sitting on his chair and preparing what's going to happen next.
