Chapter Text
Hoseok missed the good old days when life was easier, not perfect but easier.
He remembered his days in the orphanage where even when they were afraid of him they treated him with kindness and he always had food on his plate and a roof over his head and a bed where to sleep. He remembered the day when a little boy with blue hair came, a mutant like him and Hoseok didn’t think twice to call him his little brother ‘cause even if nobody else wanted to adopt them, they deserved a family. Also, he was eight back then and he wanted a friend and everybody knew that your siblings have to be your friends is the law.
He remembered how mutants were afraid and discriminated but also there were changes and mutants were starting to been accepted, of course they were mostly with no obvious mutants characteristic but a few of them were like him, with their mutant characteristic that couldn’t be hidden and the didn’t want to hide anymore and Hoseok never felt so see and proud and then he also felt hopeful ‘cause they were there gaining rights and making changes.
But then The Shit happened (they actually called The Catalyst but a mutant would disagree with the name election). Nobody knew what happened exactly, some people said it was a fight between mutants and other said that the fight were between mutants and the police, other a terrorist act of a rebel group mutant, someones said it was a act of self defense, and other said it was a plan of the government to get rid of mutants.
What everyone knows is that The Catalyst left a total of 30 wounded and 40 fatal casualties between them a Senator. After that the laws anti mutant were instaurated, any mutant were a criminal and had to be arrested and controlled.
So he missed the good old days when people saw the fire under his skin and changed their paths or just stared at him sometimes with fear and sometimes curiosity. Nowadays, they probably would call the sentinels to take him in.
It’s been two years since then. Two years where Hoseok and Jungkook had to live on the run, sleep on the floor and search for food in questionable places, they never stayed too much on any shelter that they found. A month is their limit if the risk is worth it or if they didn’t find a new place.
Hoseok hates that this is their life now. He also hates but loves that Jungkook stayed with him even when he could dye his hair and pass a regular human ‘cause “We are brother, hyung. You can’t get rid of me. It is on the rules” if he teared every time he thinks about it then it is no one’s business.
While he thought about the past, half an hour passed and there was no sign of Jungkook. They were looking for a new place the last few days, taking turns. Jungkook took the night turn while Hoseok slept but he was already back when Hoseok woke up so he is worried.
Maybe he just went far today and it is taking a bit more time than usual to come back so he took his and Jungkook’s backpacks and went to search for him.
Probably is a stupid idea, he couldn't know what path Jungkook took but he had to trust that he stuck to their plan to go to the North and left the rest to his intuition.
Which he shouldn't do 'cause he had a bad feeling about this and he didn't want to be right.
