Chapter 1: Mug

Chapter Text

A young white-haired man fell out of bed to his alarm, one leg still on the bed.

"Atsushi, are you okay?" His sister shouted from the kitchen.

"Yeah, Kyouko, I'm good." He could smell the miso she was cooking in the kitchen. Quickly, he got up from his fallen position, grabbed some clean clothes, and locked himself in the bathroom. His sunset eyes stared back at him in his reflection; he could see his recent augmentation. Though his eyes to anyone would seem normal to him, he could see it around the iris, a purple circle. He didn't regret it; he was in now and forever. He turned on the shower before jumping into the cold water. He could feel a slight pain from his surgery, but there wasn't much he could do about it.

Once done with his shower, he put on a white turtleneck, black slacks, with black socks. Atsushi gave himself a once over before leaving to see his sister in an apron setting the table.

"I can finish."

"Okay," she replied.

Soon enough, they were both sitting at the table munching on the delicious breakfast that Kyouko made.

"This is wonderful."

"Thanks."

"Do you need any help with any of your assignments at school?"

"No."

"I see, just remember I'm here."

"Okay." A slight blush crossed her face.

Finally, they finished their meal. Atsushi insisted that she get ready while he cleans up the mess made. And soon enough, they were both at the door heading to Kyouko school.

"Remember Kyouko, Naomi is going to pick you today and you will be staying with her brother and her tonight."

"I remember."

Atsushi smiled as they got on their way to school. They both enjoyed the fresh and lovely weather. It was enough to see other people going about their every day, other families doing family. Atsushi was sure that other people looked at them and saw two siblings on their way to school. Finally, reaching Kyouko's school, Atsushi wished her a good day and proceeded to his part-time job at a coffee shop called Aroma Graviton. Walking through the door, he got a hit of delicious coffee. As a college student, he was only awake from caffeine; this shop proved, which is why he worked close to his supplier.

A man not all that older than him floated around the statement as he collected orders and gave the seated customers their orders of coffee as well as pastries. The redhead turned to the door to greet what he assumed was a new customer, only to see his always-on-time worker Atsushi.

"Thank goodness you're here, Atsushi. You know the drill."

"You got it, manager. I will be back in a few seconds." Atsushi saluted before going to the back. The break room was simple, with a locker area, a table with a few chairs, and a small fridge. He walked to his locker and pulled out his uniform with a brown apron, black slacks, and a basic button-up top. He easily put the clothes on, leaving all his stuff in his locker and walking out to help his manager.

"Hey, Chuuya. I'm ready."

"Perfect, come make this order." Chuuya said, handing Atsushi a receipt with the order's details. Atsushi got to work, and that was how his morning went, servicing orders and making drinks. It was peaceful, and something never really changed once he was in it.

The printer started to print out an online order. He walked over to the computer and checked it off as confirmed. The order in question was one order of Mocha with extra dark chocolate sauce, two apple turnovers, one order of coffee with extra sugar, and–. Atsushi sighed; he skipped down to the note on the order.  Be there in fifteen, kissy face

His face betrayed him as he scowled at the letter. Atsushi made the order as he liked it and made the coffee with no extra sugar and cream. He would not contribute to the man's wish for an early death. He sighed again; Atsushi was going to see him today anyway. Why he felt the need to bother him at work was beyond him.

"I'm on break, Sir." Atsushi yelled to his boss.

"Okay." was the only reply he got in return.

He rushed to get his apron off and head to the backdoor with the order. There in the alleyway was his mentor, Dazai Osamu, one of the most mysterious agents in their organization. He respects his mentor for saving him from a life of pain and cruel fates. The man smiled at Atsushi as he passed the coffee to the older man. Following, he passed a pastry to the older, who only stuffed it into his long beige coat. Despite the coat, he was dressed more casually, still with bandages like he had just rolled out of bed. The older sniffed his coffee only to get annoyed, but it smelled.

"Oh, Kitten. You're trying to watch out for my health or something."

"Master, you need to drink more healthily."

"There you go again about all that healthy crap and Atsushi why don't you use my name."

"We are in an unclassified area and you are a secret member, sir."

"I'm your friend, Kitten. At least give me a cute nickname."

"I think Master is a cute nickname." Atsushi had this blank expression, but Dazai knew that underneath that little shit was smiling.

"Arrrggg, Whatever. Glasses have been rubbing off you too much. I remember when you were cute and wouldn't disobey me like this."

"I was only a "Cute" for one year. Da-, "He paused, then corrected himself. "Master, I am now at the ripe age of twenty."

"Just come by the bar later tonight and bring your shit."

"Yes, sir."

Dazai only sighed and walked down the alley back to the hole he had crawled out of. Then something came to mind. "Remember to get your work done."

"Yeah, Yeah, Dad." The older one waved him off.

"Be good, Son." That made Dazai smile as he fade into the dark.
