Chapter Text

For Lisa, life has always been a drag. Maybe it wasn’t just for her, but one thing she’s sure of, it’s not the case for her sister Lily. Lily-the captain of the women’s uni’s volleyball team, president of the student boards. Her sister got it all. Lily was not just simply her sister; she was her identical twin. She tries to deter away from her twin’s personal ambitions, or field of expertise. She didn’t want people to compare them. While Lily maintained her reputation at school extracurricular activities and sports, Lisa drowned herself with art and music, she was also good in math and science. Needless to say, she’s the captain of the uni’s overall math league. Just like her sister, she’s very competitive in all sorts of things. All these thoughts running around in her head, while she’s mindlessly stacking up the books she borrowed from the library (she’s also a voracious reader by the way.)
“Hold up, I still don’t quite get it actually” Lisa mumbles as she continues to stack the pile of books in front of her. She then sits down in front of her sister and places her chin on her fist, furrowing her eyebrows as she tries to understand how her twin Lily could possibly think it was a good idea.
“Lisa, I’ve never asked you any favor.” Lily replied. Lisa almost laughed at her sister’s lies. Lily always asks Lisa favors and Lisa always complies. She loves her sister. Lily instinctively combs her wavy locks, a habit she has. Sometimes she does this due to exasperation since she’s been trying to explain this simple concept for thirty minutes now.
“She and I are the two most popular girls in our course. Doesn’t it make sense for us to date?”
“No. Not really no” Lisa states as she stares off, obviously still very much confused by the topic. “Aren’t there guys in your campus that are technically more popular than you? Why don’t you date one of them? It would definitely ….you know boost your popularity” Lisa continues. “I don’t know like Mingyu perhaps?”.
“Ew that dumb buffoon, no thanks. He might be the captain of our baseball team but no I don’t date brainless dicks? Lily scoffed. Lisa could almost laugh at her sister’s tactless mouth.
“Come on! I’ve already explained this to you!” Lily jumps up from her seat almost stomping on Lisa, grabbing her twin sister’s shoulders and shaking Lisa slightly. Once Lisa finally snaps out of her contemplative state and meets her sister’s earnest eyes, Lily continues.
“She and I decided to do this to gain the most attention possible! We want to do it, the both of us. So that people would remember. Sure I could just date a guy and have some people make remarks about it from time to time, but this will be so much better! Every single time I kiss her in the hallway, people will start to talk. Every time I grab her by the waist, people start saying things. If I take her to parties with me, everyone will make comments about how we’re the cutest ones there. Basically anything her and I do together will have people talking about us. It’s a win-win situation for both of us. How can you not see this Lisa? It’s amazing!”
“But…you don’t have any feelings for her whatsoever” Lisa muses as she once again averts her gaze to her lap. Lisa for the most part, loves her sister to death but she often finds herself hating this side of Lily, the side that was practically obsessed with fame or popularity whatever you wanna call it. Lisa had watched this side consume Lisa at points, and whenever it did, Lisa wanted nothing to do with her sister. But in her mind, there’s always a dominant twin, and it’s definitely not her.
“So? It’s not like Jennie hopelessly in love with me and I’m using her. She’s the one who proposed this arrangement anyway” Lily counters, releasing her grip on Lisa’s shoulders once she realizes Lisa’s discomfort.

“Aren’t you gonna feel miserable though? Being with someone you don’t even feel anything for? Do you and Jen..nie even get along in general? I thought you two were sort of rivals.”

“woah, easy one question at a time Liz” Lily now sitting on the table facing towering down at Lisa. She says this with laughing slightly and ruffling Lisa’s hair as if she’s an elder imparting wisdom. “All I’m hoping for is that maybe during this arrangement of sorts, I will start to feel something for her. If I don’t, then es, I could be miserable for the rest of my life. She’s sort of a bithc ya know, and she’s trying to outdo me, which always get on my nerves…but hey kid, it’s not like I’m gonna marry her”.
I’m sorry but the more you explain all of this to me, the less I’m willing to support it. I just know that you and Jennie are going to be at each other’s throats whenever you guys spend time together to uphold your image”. Lisa retorts.

“Who knows” Lily shrugs as she plugs her curling wand so that she can start to get ready for her ‘first date’ tonight with Jennie. “Besides, Jennie seems kinda feisty, it could be hot, fighting with her and stuff.”

“So not only are you using her for popularity, you’re also going to use her for sex” Lisa states now with a more disappointed look at her sister. She says it in a flat tone, standing up and making her way to her bed.

“Well when you put it like that, you make me sound like a jerk” Lily remarks as she starts to head to their shared bathroom.

But before she can vanish, she heard her sister saying “I don’t have to word it in a certain way to make it sound like that Li, what you’re doing is wrong and I disagree with it completely, regardless of what Jennie wants” and with that Lily closed the door. She makes her way in front of the dresser and scoffed at her sister’s response. She focused on her shoulder length, her platinum hair. As he takes her first strip of hair to curl, she heard Lisa mumbling, barely audible “Have fun on your date then.”

“So how are the two ‘lovebirds’ doing” Jisoo questions as she pops a fry into her mouth, rolling her eyes as she watches Lily feed Jennie a chocolate, the two acting completely enamored with each other.

I don’t know. I refuse to act like I care about that ‘relationship’ one bit” Lisa says in a sharp tone as she too rolls her eyes at her sister’s and Jennie’s behavior. If she only knew her sister and her fake girlfriend would be at the library, she could’ve gone to her dance rehearsal instead.

“Do they hang out at all?” or do they just act like this at school?” Jisoo questions.

Jisoo is Lisa’s best friend and only friend (aside from the members of the math league). Lisa wasn’t like her twin sister at all really, meaning that Lily was the extremely popular one with an amount of friends that couldn’t even be counted on six hands, whereas Lisa liked keeping to herself and was completely fine with only Jisoo’s company. Again, this way, people wouldn’t notice her, Lisa doesn’t like attention that much.

“I’ve only seen them like this at school. I think the only reason they even hang out outside of school is s that their friends don’t get suspicious. I’ve heard around the hallways occasionally that some people have their doubts about Jennie and Lily. I guess a lot of people are observant like we are and knew that they don’t really get along….”

“…and despised each other before” Lisa finishing Jisoo’s thoughts.

As Jisso and Lisa have been having the conversation their eyes have been glued to the couple across the library the whole time. Both girls simultaneously make gagging noises as Jennie leans in and gives Lily a peck on the cheeks. Once Jisoo and Lisa realize what they’ve both done, they break out into fits of laughter, and instantaneously regret it cause now people are looking at them and realized they are infact in the library.

“Has jennie ever been in your place?”

“yeah” Lisa says in an uninterested tone as she pretends to be reading something. “She came over yesterday, but it was basically like she wasn’t even there. Lisa didn’t even introduce her to my parents and they came straight up to our room. Jennie didn’t even acknowledge me either because the second she stepped into the room, her eyes were glued to her phone, and it stayed that way until later that evening and just left. My sister on the other hand, didn’t even shoe her to the door when she left.”

“They didn’t talk at all?” Jisoo asked incredulously. She can’t believe the couple that her best friend is describing is the same couple that are currently all cuddled up across the room. Lisa just nodded.

“Their situation is fucked up” Jisoo muses, almost whispering and Lisa just grunts in agreement. “You’re definitely the better, classier, funnier, smarter and cooler twin in my opinion…” Jisoo adds as she leans over and nudges Lisa’s shoulder. Lisa beams over at Jisoo and bumps her shoulder back. After a second though, her expression falls slightly and since Jisoo is Lisa’s best friend, she detects that immediately.

“What’s wrong?” Jisoo with a more concerned tone and focuses all her attention to Lisa.

“What you just said to me is very nice and all, but it just bothers me sometimes that you seem to be the only one who thinks that. I mean ask anyone, and they probably don’t even know me or know Lily even has a twin sister. I’m basically invisible. And the people who do know always think that Lily is the better one in all aspects. I hate being compared to her constantly. Everyone always say things like ‘oh you’re lily’s sister’ never just ‘oh hey you’re Lisa’. It just gets to me sometimes. Lily’s hair is just always little bit shinier, her smile is just a little bit brighter and her eyes are always little more lighter, she’s a little bit older, she’s so much more social, and gets whoever she wants...boy or girl. She’s just—”

“I’m sorry I was rambling again wasn’t I” Lisa asks as she looks down at her lap, ashamed she let those thoughts consume her.

“yeah you were., all of the things you said, is not true Liz..and if you need me to remind you this everytime, I’m more than willing to.” Jisoo smiled.

Lisa smiles at how awesome and caring her best friend is and says “There’s no need to, I just got carried away, which you know happens occasionally…but I’m glad you’re there for me. Thanks Jisoo”

“You’re more than welcome Liz” Jisoo says with a massive smile before pulling Lisa into a tight hug. Lisa returns the hug enthusiastically and while they’re still hugging Jisoo speaks up.

“Ew red alert, their lips are touching now! Ew! This is just terrible” Jisoo mumbled as she makes another gagging noise and Lisa just laughs at her friend silently and so hard that tears spring up to her eyes and her abs hurt.

Lisa pulls the car into the parking space and puts the car in the park. Her eyes immediately settle on the front door of the Diner, and she has to suppress the urge to pound her fists against the steering wheel when she notices that no one is standing out front.

She snatches her phone angrily out of the cup holder she placed it in earlier and angrily pounds her thumbs against her screen as she types out her message to Lily. Once she sends it and doesn’t get a response ten seconds later, she decides to send another message, and another , and another, and another until she’s left Lily twelve angry and clearly annoyed messages.

The situation was that Jennie and Lily were out on one of their fake dates at the town’s famous restaurant with another couple from school. No one attending the double date had a car though, so that’s where Lisa came into play.

Lisa had struck up an agreement with Lily earlier that night to have the car so that she could go to this massive convention with Jisoo. The only stipulation was that Lisa had to pick them up whenever she needed to be picked up, which Lisa was totally fine with.

What Lisa totally wasn’t fine with was the fact that she was no longer the only picking up Lily. She was also picking up Jennie and the other couple who had accompanied “Jenlily” on their ‘date’. This was terrible for multiple reasons, the first one being that she would have to witness her sister and jennie being all lovey dove and completely nauseating.

The second reason was that the other couple, Lisa wasn’t sure of their names, but she was pretty sure they were complete airheads and Lisa had never head of them have anything close to an intellectual conversation before. This meant that Lisa wouldn’t be able to connect with any of them or think of topics of conversation on the car ride home, considering she preferred discussions on books and current events.

It was in this moment that Lisa decided that if she was going to suffer on the long car ride home, she would at least play some of her favorite music to make the time more bearable. Lisa plugged a cord into her phone that would let her play music over the speakers in the car, and seconds later “Past lives” by Borne was filling the car. Lisa immediately turned the music up louder and let the music drown out her negative thoughts.

Lisa had been so absorbed in the music playing that she hadn’t noticed four people approaching the car. As a result, when one of the back doors opened abruptly, Lisa shrieked in surprise and threw her hands up, causing her phone to fly over and land in the passenger’s seat.

It was dark outside, and Lisa couldn’t see much, but she heard a light giggle fill the car. Lisa’s cheeks immediately flushed and she scrambled to pick her phone up off the seat. Saying that Lisa had played it cool would have been a complete and utter overstatement.
Once Lisa’s phone was back in her lap, and she figured that she looked somewhat composed, she turned around to look at the person who was still giggling slightly. Lisa’s eyes met the sparkling feline, brown eyes of a petite girl in the backseat and Lisa immediately knew who it was.

That’s Jennie Kim.
