twilight sparkle wanted to do many things, she wanted to learn magic, be prized pupil, and live a quiet life. One thing that she never wanted to be however, was queen of equestria. when twilight first got her wings she wasn't upset, but she needed time to adjust, she was royalty after all. however when celestia, her mentor for years who practically raised her, mentioned retiring from ruler of equestria twilight was terrified. she couldn't say no to her mentor however, and started learning how to rule equestria. after a couple month's and plenty of set backs luna and celestia decided that it was time for twilight to begin her rule.
twilight definitely wasn't exactly ready, however, she knew that her friends would be by her side.
until they weren't..
pinkie pie went first, it had around thirty years since twilight took her role as leader of equestria. they all knew it was bound to happen eventually, but they didn't want to think of the when. applejack and rainbow dash were next only a year later. the doctors said that rainbow died from heartbreak a week after applejack passed. the funerals were bittersweet, they were both buried next to the tree that applejack's parents planted, along side with granny smith.
it was another couple years before fluttershy passed. she was the youngest of all of us, luckily her death wasn't painful, she just fell asleep and never woke up. twilight and rarity used their magic to put fluttershy into the ground, with six tree seeds representing their friends.
the tree was barely as tall as a filly when rarity's health started to decline. it wasn't so bad at first, only tremors effecting her sewing. it started to deteriorate quickly though. rarity could barely even remember her own sister towards the end of her life. twilight sparkle was in a meeting with the royal guards discussing the state of equestria, when spike ran in, he had obviously been crying not too long beforehand. he didn't have to say anything however, everyone knew.
twilight walked towards their usual picnic spot, which also happened to be where most of her friends were buried. she couldn't handle visiting for a while, she knew she would break down if she went right away. the tree was almost as tall as her now, alicorns experience a second puberty. growing taller, and experiencing some other small changes. twilight sparkle sat down by the tree, pulling out her friends journal that they gave her when she first took the crown.
she reminisced for a while before feeling a tear roll down her face. she stood up quickly wiping her tear before walking away to the castle. never turning back.
