Chapter 1: love (?) at first fall

Chapter Text

well shit, ango thought when he read the texts his friends sent in their group chat.

"cool" kids

tsujimura- hey! sorry, ayatsuji and i can't go rollerskating like we planned tonight:(

we're cramming last minute studying for an exam</3

 ayatsuji- Yea

mushitaro- i got kidnapped by ranpo and poe. i don't know where i am, sorry.

aoki- Me and Murakoso just found out that a project was due tomorrow. We can't come either.

 murakoso- Yeah, sorry dudes:/

ango- It's okay. There's always next time. Good luck everyone, and I hope you somehow get 'unkidnapped', Mushitaro.

ango just sighed as he turned off his phone and shoved it in his pocket. he didn't even want to think about what dazai was doing. sure, they're all in college, but dazai, for one, did not act like he was in college. more like he was in high school and still going through, well, whatever high schoolers go through. meaning dazai acted like a little kid, and ango was his mom or something.

ango just sighed. he would leave, but he had already paid the skating fee and paid for rental skates. he would be damned if he let those 12 bucks go to waste.

it was decided. ango, the quiet, studious, kind of control freak, college student, will try to rollerskate. for like, the first time. the 23-year-old in his senior year of college, will be trying to rollerskate. when all he does daily is study, sit down at his desk, go to classes (probably the only exercise he gets), eat, and then do more studying. the best ango will do is probably fall onto his face and break his nose. he had no faith in himself to rollerskate somewhat decently.

oh well! first time for everything!

ango sakaguchi full-heartedly believed that his last breaths would be at that very skating rink. it felt like it was the first time he had ever walked in his entire life. his legs were shaking and wobbling terribly as he desperately clung to the outer walls and rails of the skating rink. it was almost as if they were the only thing keeping him from slipping, falling, and then dying. no scratch that, they were the only thing keeping him from falling. he was too scared to let go, afraid that if he did, he would meet his unfortunate fate with the hardwood floor.

after about 15 minutes of being a little bitch, ango decided to man up and grow a pair. he would try to rollerskate. without the help of the outer walls and railings. this was a REALLY big jump from clinging to the wall for dear life, to cautiously and slowly skating away from the wall. okay, i lied, it's not that big of a jump. but it was a pretty big leap of faith for ango, who, may i remind you, has NEVER roller skated in his life. hell, fucking 5-year-olds were skating better than him.

he was starting to get the hang of it after a little while, surprisingly. all he was focused on were his feet and making sure they were making the right motion, going in the right direction, and overall just doing what he wanted them to do and skating properly. but, to his dismay, there were other people at the skating rink. and of those people, there was a rink guard. in which ango had the pleasure of running right into, not paying attention to any of his surroundings. they both collapsed, but the body of the rink guard helped cushion ango's fall, making it less painful to fall on a hardwood floor. the rink guard, on the other hand, felt all of it. his ass meeting the solid floor, and the weight of another human being on top of him.

"oh shit, i'm so sorry," ango says apologetically to the rink guard as he tries to get up in his skates, but to no avail.

"no worries," the rink guard replied. he held out a hand for ango to take, which he took gratefully.

when he looked up and straightened his glasses, ango was pretty darn sure he just saw the love of his life. the rink guard had unruly, dark red hair, steel blue eyes that he could get lost in for days on end, a slight stubble, and a chiseled jawline. and he looked around his age too, so that was a bonus. the dark-haired man never in his life had EVER seen a man as beautiful as the rink guard before him. even his heart skipped a beat when he looked at him.  he was fully ready to go down on one knee and propose. buuut, he kind OF just met the guy. like 'known for 10 seconds' just met the guy. and he would probably never see him again, so what would even be the point?

"hello? you okay there?" the rink guard said in his deep, velvety voice. it was enough to pull ango out of his temporary trance.

"oh, yeah, i am. sorry," was all ango could say, willing himself not to blush in front of the attractive man. he just smiled slightly at ango, causing him to blush profusely at the small gesture. hopefully, the flashing and different light colors could conceal how red ango was.

"i'm... i'm very sorry. is there anything i could do to make up for running into you?" ango asked politely, genuinely apologetic. the man shrugged.

"well, i guess you could buy me a snack from the snack bar," he said nonchalantly.

"sure! what would you like?" ango asked while he was looking at how much cash he had on him. can't be too sure that the concession stand would take credit.

"hm, probably a blue icee and a hot pocket."

"okay. i'll be right back then," ango replied as he went over to the snack bar, and glanced (he was very obviously staring) over at the redhead going back to skating around and making sure everyone was safe.

this was a great opportunity to calm down, and keep his nerves in check ango thought as he ordered the things the rink guard asked him to. he texted his friends in their group chat while he waited for the hot pocket—

21:31

ango- I just saw a cute guy.

dazai- oh yah? tell su the deatsil:3

ango- I was just skating around since I spent $12 on the skating fee and rental skates, and then I ran into him.

dazai- do u evn knwo how to sakte???

 ango- No. Why?

dazai- omg this si liek the kdramas me and astsuchi have been binging

ango- Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

dazai- deepends on how u wanna teka it 😋

 ango- Oh. Well, that's... nice.

ango pocketed his phone when he noticed that the hot pocket was done and on the counter. he gave the cashier money for the items, then went back to sit at a table and waved at the rink guard to come over and have his stuff.

"oh, thanks man," the redhead thanked ango.

"no need to thank me," ango smiled politely as he watched the man eat his hot pocket and drink his icee. he still somehow looked so attractive, it was almost annoying. almost. the silence was dreadfully awkward. ango wanted some way out of it, but it'd be rude to just get up and leave, but also make it even more awkward IF he started a conversation. especially since he's eating too. all of his responses would just be a muffled mess from all of the food. what was he supposed to do? all the dark-haired man was, was some awkward photography student. whatever, he would just start a conversation. an awkward conversation's better than awkward silence, right?

"so... what's your name?" ango asked tediously. the man looked up at ango and stuffed the rest of the hot pocket into his mouth.

"oda. well uh, sakunosuke oda, if you care for specifics." Ango just nodded carefully, taking it all in. 'sakunosuke oda' he noted in his mind.

"what's your name?" oda asked. ango just blinked dumbly, having to take a second to process everything. it was getting steadily harder the more oda talked in his smooth, deep voice that ango could fall asleep to. the bespectacled man was practically swooning all over the man he just met. oda's attractiveness didn't help ango have less of a kind of crush on him, all it did was make ango stare harder and longer.

"ango sakaguchi. you can just call me ango, though," he answered after a moment or five.

"nice to meet you, ango," oda said warmly and held out his hand for a handshake. a light pink dusted over ango's cheeks when they made contact and shook hands. he shouldn't be feeling that way about a fucking handshake! for fucks sake, it's a handshake. oh well, ango's a bit lovesick.

ango checked the time on his phone. it was almost 22:00, which was when the skating rink closed. 21:54 to be exact. he sighed. he didn't want to think about leaving the red-haired man and have to stop looking and gazing at his gorgeousness. something inside ango broke at the thought. all ango wanted to do was sit there and maybe hold hands with oda. and maybe kiss oda too. but they just met, so that probably wasn't going to come anytime soon, to ango's dismay. do you think oda could tell how whipped he made ango over him?  probably not. it'd be a bit narcissistic to think that everyone you've just is already in love with you, wouldn't it? ugh, all ango wanted to was just glue himself to oda. just then, he came up with a great idea. they both were already walking out of the rollerskating rink, after taking off their skates of course, when he thought of it. he should get oda's number! then, he could text oda wheneveeeerr he wanted.

"hey, um would it be alright if i could get your number?" ango looked up at the man. he was unnecessarily sweaty.

"sure," oda replied indeifferently. ango gave oda his phone and let him type away. the thought that now he wouldn't have to worry about communication with the beautiful man took some weight off of his chest.

     "thanks." ango smiled.

"text me when you get home," oda said to ango as he walked away to his car. ango just nodded and walked over to his own car with a silly grin on his face.

ango couldn't keep his mind off of oda that night.
