That best moment of the day.
Thomas wakes first, he usually does, turns onto his left side,
" 'morning, love ... " he kisses Richard's hair.
" ..... hmmmfzhh, m'n'n ... "
Thomas eases himself out of bed, just a bit creaky "first thing", walks a little stiffly to the bedroom window, and pulls the curtains open.
Richard vaguely waves his right hand against the light, licks his lips, and looks determined to sleep some more.
"Funny old you! How can you sleep with all this light?"
"I can sl'p anywh'r ..." mumbles hs lover.
"I'll go and make breakfast."
"Lovely, th'nk you ... "
And so it goes, juice and coffee and toast with marmalade, the newspaper from the doormat, the radio burbling in the background, sunshine through the window.
Then read a book, potter in the garden, a bit of shopping in the village, greetings to friends and strangers, lunch, make a cake for tea, letters to answer, answer the phone (drinks over the road on Saturday - "I think we can make that ...").
"Have we got any of that decent claret left in the cellar?" "I'll go and check ... "; dinner, candles, maybe watch the telly, maybe not, then, a little weary to bed.
Quiet, all passion not spent, a loving kiss and more.
Age. Love. Happiness.
