Who Are You, Ladybug?

Summary:

Just some friendly sparring on a rooftop, but more intense and more intimate than the scene from the movie.

Work Text:

"Ready?" Chat asked, nonchalantly spinning his staff in his right paw. The glint of challenge shimmered in his emerald feline eyes. It was one of those occasions when their their time as superheroes was not spent with defeating villains or assisting the people of Paris, but with honing their skills and strengthening their teamwork.

"Anytime," Ladybug replied. Her stance was a mixture of ease and tension. She faced her opponent without weapons: this battle was meant to push her superhuman reflexes, agility, and quick thinking to the limit.

Chat Noir lunged forward, his weapon slicing through the air with calculated precision, yet Ladybug gracefully evaded its reach. She knew she couldn't match Chat's strength head-on, so she relied on her swiftness and instincts, gliding with elegance and agility, always staying one step ahead of danger. Closing in, she executed a flying kick to catch him off guard, but Chat sidestepped and struck her with his weapon. Concern flashed across his face, but once he saw his partner was unharmed, his determination surged anew.

A spirit of competition surged through their veins. They always wanted to prove to the other that they were superior, stronger, more skilled — whether it involved combat, navigating obstacle courses, sprinting across rooftops, driving cars on a racetrack, or engaging in one of the superhero sports devised by Master Fu. According to the old guardian, these were the surest paths to advancing their skills and augmenting their strength. However, to Ladybug and Chat Noir these sessions meant than training or victory; they were rather about carefree, childlike fun for which the superhero career had unveiled new and exhilarating horizons. In these moments, a rare sense of liberation enveloped them, and they were bound by an inherent harmony as the weight of their responsibilities melted away.

Ladybug threw herself to the ground, narrowly avoiding an attack that seemed nearly impossible to dodge. "Hey, extending your staff is not fair!" she protested. With a fluid motion, she rolled to the side and promptly sprang back up, parrying another strike with graceful precision. Her instincts were her compass, synchronizing her body and mind perfectly. Her attention remained intensely fixed on her opponent, her senses keenly anticipating his every move.

The staff cut through the air with a metallic resonance, tracing mesmerizing patterns in the darkness, as if it was an extension of the boy's will. Ladybug's motions flowed with lightness and dynamism, her body exuding agility and impressive flexibility. Her defensive maneuvers seamlessly transitioned into surprise attacks, putting her partner on the defensive and testing his skills to the limit.

"Chat, you're as predictable as a cat chasing a laser pointer," she taunted, vaulting over a low sweep of the weapon.

"Just letting you catch your breath, bug. I have more moves than you have spots!"

With a masterful sequence of attacks, Chat Noir maneuvered his partner towards a broad chimney, paying attention not to exceed the limits of protection granted by their superhero suits. Ladybug was compelled to switch to a defensive stance. She attempted a kick, but her opponent parried and stepped forward, his movement drawing them dangerously close. In the next moment the girl had nowhere to retreat; she was backed against the side of the chimney.

Their eyes met, the tension in the air almost tangible. Chat's gaze flickered to Ladybug's lips, his feline eyes swirling with emotions. "Do you give up, bug?"

Ladybug's heart raced, and she struggled to resist the instinctive urge to draw him close and kiss him. The boy seemingly expected such a move, his body relaxing momentarily. However, in that instant, Ladybug broke free and gracefully danced away, creating a safe distance between them. "Nice try, kitty cat," she laughed. "But I'm not that easy to catch."

A mixture of admiration and disappointment crossed Chat's face. "You're always one step ahead, aren't you?"

There was a playful gleam in the girl's eyes. "You know that well."

Their duel continued, but the boy clearly held the advantage; his strength and weapon surpassed his partner's agility and quick reflexes. Ladybug grew increasingly weary from the intense practice, and it seemed more and more like Chat was merely toying with her.

He pushed his opponent towards a balustrade and swung his staff for a strike, but Ladybug jumped into the air, vaulting over him with an elegant somersault. The boy pivoted, yet his partner executed a perfectly timed low kick, sweeping his legs out from under him. Chat tumbled, his staff slipping from his grip and sliding down the roof.

Rolling aside, Chat quickly stood up and lunged towards Ladybug, seamlessly shifting into an unarmed combat stance, his movements and suppleness exuding an alluring and mysterious feline grace. Ladybug dodged a blow, and her form moved almost weightlessly as she countered with a lightning-fast kick. Their bodies flowed in a harmony of power and nimbleness, a symphony of flawless synchronization.

As they got closer to each other in their dance, their moves adopted a more cautious and gentle quality. The rooftop appeared to shrink, enclosing them into an intimate cocoon. Hearts were pounding not only from the exertion but from the emotions stirred within; this clash was different from their usual friendly sparring matches. Ladybug's heart skipped a beat as she found herself mere inches from her partner, their bodies brushing.

The boy launched a series of attacks, and once again Ladybug was forced to defend, but this time, she didn't allow herself to be cornered. Springing into the air, she twisted herself around, and her legs met her opponent's shoulder and side with force, using his momentum to unbalance him.

Chat Noir fell, and Ladybug seized the opportunity, pouncing on him instantly and wrapping her arms around his torso from behind to prevent his escape. She felt the heat of his body against hers, and she could sense his heartbeat, fast and slightly irregular, matching the rhythm of her own.

"Do you give up, kitty?"

Chat made a vain attempt to free himself. "Yeah, well. You win."

Ladybug sprang to her feet, a victorious grin dancing on her lips as she extended her hand to her opponent. Chat Noir sat up, awkwardly rubbing the back of his head. "You were much better than me, bug."

She giggled, her gloved fingers interlocking with his paw as she helped him up. "Not really. It's just that you were a bit unfocused and overconfident."

The boy winked playfully. "I can't help it. You have that effect on me."

Ladybug blushed and felt her throat go dry as she was caught in the vortex of his green cat-like eyes. The energy between them shifted; the initial blend of intense but friendly rivalry evolved into something more serious. Their hands didn't let go of each other, and the air became laden with tension, filled with unspoken emotions. Then, the distance between them dwindled to nothingness as their lips met in a soft, tender kiss.

"I guess we both won this round," Chat said after their kiss ended. Emotions churned in their hearts, and they knew that they had just experienced one of the most important moments in their superhero career.

Ladybug's cheeks flushed an even deeper shade of pink. "I guess," she murmured, her voice barely audible.

They held each other's gaze for a prolonged moment, exchanging unspoken messages. Finally, it was her who spoke up. "I really should go home now," she stammered.

Don't, Chat Noir wanted to say, but he didn't want to shatter the delicacy of this newfound connection. He bid her farewell with a wordless wave as she cast out her yo-yo, disappearing into the maze of tall buildings.

"Who are you, Ladybug?" he murmured dreamily, his gaze trailing after the girl who had captured his heart beyond return.
