Our last summer

Summary:

If they knew the end of this story, they wouldn’t accept their desire in the first place.

The flame that used to burn their chest, and secrets being shared as childhood friends, would fade away as the sun was slowly showing for a new day. Katsuki Bakugo was his first everything, and having faith in him would be stupid…but Izuku waited. There was no way the blond rejected his feelings after telling him so many times how he loved him and that he was the best thing that happened to him.

That night, and the following days, Izuku realized how he should’ve never fallen for Katsuki Bakugo in the first place.

Or : Izuku and Katsuki being a summer love, and catching time 10 years later on the same beach where everything started.

Work Text:

On a summer night in 1995,

If love can kill, Izuku Midoriya would already be a memory to his loved ones. The pain in his chest was followed by the urge to scream to the world how he was better than that. He was better than a simple summer love, a toy you could play with without thinking about the consequences.

He had values, and however…none of them were to cry in the middle of a beach during a summer night. His heart ached to the point that being dead would be better than feeling this unbearable pain. Tears fell on his face, salt meeting his lips previously kissed by the man who broke his heart.

Izuku didn’t know how often he stayed here, waiting to see his lover return and apologize, proving to him he was wrong about the nature of those feelings. Katsuki Bakugo never came and left the following day with his parents. Izuku Midoriya stayed the entire night on the beach, the waves reminding him of his sad reality as he watched his soul leave his body. How could a summer love turn into the most painful heartbreak someone could have? All those promises were sweet memories to the freckled man but now sounded like a curse. The “ I love you” whispered when no one was looking, the fingers intertwining with each other in public away from their friends, the stolen glances and secrets meetings would only be a curse to his lips. The unforgettable moments were a nightmare to the broken soul standing on the beach, alone against the world.

/ “Do you love me, Kacchan ?” Izuku asked with a shaking tone, afraid of making the wrong move. His fingers played with his shirt stressfully, and his heart beat so fast he could leave his chest.

The sound of the sea resounded in the background, resting on the sand, still wet and marked by the previous waves. The complete silence could be heard in this place, isolated from all eyes, lost between two houses in which the young couple used to stay for their secret escapades. This place, once considered one of the most romantic spots for this young love, was now a prison, where the following words will haunt this place and the soul of Izuku Midoriya, the one who had loved and given everything for a person who was not worth it.

“I’m sorry, Izuku,” Katsuki whispered, his eyes glancing away because looking into the green teary eyes would be too painful for him. So many things happened in the next few seconds. Izuku could only remember being petrified, heartbroken, and observing the man he used to consider the love of his life leaving the beach./

That night, and the following weeks, Izuku realized how he should’ve never fallen for Katsuki Bakugo in the first place.

—--

On a summer night in 2005,

Many promises can be made late at night when the world is asleep.

Small kisses and sweet words are the crowd fading exchanged when and two teenagers wish time could stop. The stolen glances in a friend’s group, secrets they would share until their last breath, and the idyl of a summer couple who promised the world to each other on a beach night.

The happiness would only be temporary, knowing some people might change with the years, and our couple won’t be an exception. It might be why Izuku was standing here, on the same beach where his youth love changed his life.

His feet would feel the familiar waves of the ocean, the sweet sounds echoing in his ears as a haunting memory of the things he left behind after leaving Greece. In the last years, he avoided any memories related to this place and the man who left half of his soul in the echo of the ocean. Coming here was a risk of facing the ghost of his past, and a part of him still hoped to recover the broken soul he left here with his tears. It wouldn’t be the first time he dreamed about returning to where everything started and ended….but this felt unreal.

Under his eyes lay an endless ocean containing more secrets than the walls of some buildings can have. If time could mark human beings with memories or emotions, the buildings and the sea had a different system. Those waves and carved stones have stood on those lands for decades, carrying the memory of our ancestors and simple strangers like Izuku and other broken souls who had lost something on this path that initially seemed attractive. Those vultures that rubbed against the sand, marked by the presence of many tourists or regulars through the years, could also carry the sorrows of hearts. The millions of broken hearts and relationships stopped because of a mutual feeling, or an impossible love could be felt in every foam that sounded like a melody to his ears.

Ten years ago, days for days, the love of his life had rejected him before disappearing overnight. For a sensitive and naive soul, this rejection and words haunt the rest of those nights, if not days. His younger self would've spent most of his time wondering what he did wrong or if he loved Katsuki correctly. Tears became a part of his life, and moving on was the hardest part.

No matter who it was, men or women, they would never be Katsuki Bakugo.

However, returning to those lands was an unprecedented experience for the man he had become today. Those tears and this constant emptiness that had haunted his weeks, if not months, were nothing but a mere phantom in this desert place. At this time, the village was celebrating the union of Ochako Uraraka and Toga Himiko, two of his friends he had met over the years. However, Izuku was not in the mood to smile, not when something in his chest screamed to return to this beach where he could find the answer to his questions.

Ochako will understand his friend's absence, knowing the history of this place and the striking elements that the young man had gone through. Legend has it that each place in sandstone was full of stories, memories, or feelings specific to some. If his friends were more defined in the expedition away from the world, Izuku would be safe in this hidden spot where all the prohibitions had been crossed in his youth. Those things that he believed were so special and unique became bitter memories, just like the " I love you" exchanged under the gaze of the stars in the sky.

The lights of the city, followed by the conversations that invaded the streets at such a late hour, were only distractions for the freckled man losing himself to the nostalgia in his chest. This impression of being welcomed here had never left his chest, even after the heartbreak. For the next two years, Izuku and his family would go to Greece and connect with their family, and he escaped, hoping to see the taller blond walking toward him with a smile, and they would jump into each other arms as if nothing had happened.

Katsuki Bakugo never reached him.

After this delusion and his graduation, Izuku decided to live his life by moving out to another country. America wasn’t the first choice on his list, but it would be the best for his career, and Japan was getting too exhausting for him. He stopped the family trip to Greece and focused on his life, changing his mind. As the years went, some people entered his life, and others lefts, but Izuku found himself thinking about his summer love in the weakest moments. Dating had never really been his thing, and when he found himself interested in someone…he would realize how it wasn’t the same love Katsuki gave him.

Izuku could remember as if it was yesterday…how this love with the blond was so strong that no words could express this incredible feeling in their chest. This love was addicting, intoxicating, and welcoming for two teenagers who knew nothing about those complex emotions. From his late talks with his friends, Izuku concluded that maybe returning to where this journey started could be good if he wanted to heal. Now he was mature enough to face his fears…which led him to this moment.

His hair was unstuck green, moving toward the wind, touching his face while the icy water accompanied the atmosphere he had missed so much. The minutes seemed hours, so he did not notice someone entering his secret garden. He didn’t need to turn around to know the identity of the person because it was the one who had haunted his nights for the last ten years.

“You came,” his voice whispered, turning around to meet the crimson eyes. It’s been many years since he didn’t see them, even if they would save his nightmares and haunt his dreams. Time didn’t seem to change anything about him, and his eyes were the same that caught his attention the first time they met and fell in love on the same beach at the beginning of the summer.

“I received your letter,” confessed the blond, holding the paper in his hands. His fingers grabbed it tightly, afraid of losing it in the water. “I came as soon as I could.”

Oh , the letter.

Izuku should have remembered this small detail. Days ago, before returning to those lands that had rocked his childhood, he took a huge risk by sending the first and only letter to his old lover. Thanks to one of his acquaintances, who knew where Katsuki was, he made the first contact with the blond, and still, all the words he put into this letter were sincere.

“Dear Katsuki Bakugo,

It’s been a while since I haven’t written this name or let it escape my lips cursed by your false promises. The last time I accepted the idea of you being away from my life was after returning to Japan and confessing everything in my secret diary about how a summer love made me live in hell. I understand your worries about receiving a random letter from the guy you left behind ten years ago, but it was necessary.

I’m not taking a risk by writing those words on paper instead of saying it to your face because I know from a close friend that no one would find this letter except you. I have a lot to say, some insults that I wished I’d said earlier, some tears I wanted you’ve seen instead of leaving me alone on that beach that night. Writing his feelings into words isn’t the easiest thing, especially when it’s the last thing you want to do, but this is necessary for me to figure out some unspoken truth and for you to know how I feel after all this time.

People would often describe summer love as a way to pass the time and change our minds, but it feels different with you. Since the first day and the second, our eyes met…I knew you would be different. You introduced yourself and your friends to a new boy in town, and we secretly became the closest friends.

This friendship I cherished became stronger because this was the best summer of my life. I still remember the first time we kissed behind a wall after a party organized by the people you would describe as “extras,” even if you cared about them. It was messy, but you still let me be your first kiss.

As the weeks went on, I discovered you weren’t just a stubborn teenager but a tender lover. Falling in love with you was easier than breathing, and it would feel like I always belonged in your arms. My feelings for you were sincere since the first day, but unfortunately, yours proved to me how this addicting love could be destructive.

I still remember and cherish how you would hold my hands as often as possible, intertwine our fingers, let my head rest against your shoulder, and comfort me and my insecurities. You were the friend I needed and the lover able to save me from drowning when my life made no sense.

This stranger I met one day became the most important person in my life, the most caring lover, and my first everything. I was afraid, you were wondering if it was the right thing but that night, you taught me how love could have another side..the one where you would feel welcomed by the person who owned your soul. We became closer after that event, and I would be lying if I said it wasn’t the best summer of my entire life, even until now…because it was. You brought me so many unforgettable memories and feelings, and your love was an addiction I couldn’t escape.

My younger self would be obsessed with the idea of your lips against mine, the sweet words you’ll whisper against my ears, and how you’ll hold me close as if you were afraid of losing me. I cherished every single moment with you as if it was the last, and I was scared of seeing this stop overnight, and you proved my worries right.

I loved you.

I sincerely loved you, and a part of me still loves you like the first day, even after all the shitty things you did to me. You deserve a second chance, but it’ll be the last time we’ll be able to see each other before my wedding.

I could only imagine your surprise, reading those words and seeing how contradictory my previous comments were. Honestly, I don’t even have the answer myself, but I met this guy in America….he was nice enough to change my mind and proposed to me the last month. Call me naive, but I guessed it would be a good thing to move on about you, even if I didn’t love him, I would learn how to love someone else in the following years.

As you expected, I said yes .

He was the happiest, and I was faking my smile because the only thing I could think about was you . My heart begged me to stop before I broke another heart because he wasn’t you and would never be able to love me like you did. My mind insisted on stopping searching for my past and taking a good occasion to forget my feelings for you when facing one.

The wedding is planned for next summer, and a part of me hopes I’ll have another good summer since you left me. I am sending you this letter to tell you how I’ll be in Greece in a few days to celebrate my best friend's wedding…I don’t know how many days I’ll stay, but on the night of June 11th… I’ll be on the beach where our story started.

This will be the last time you’ll ever see me, and I hope you’ll give me the answers I need to provide a sense for my life. I hope you’re doing fine and becoming the inspiration you dreamed about when we were young…take care of you and see you soon, Kacchan.

I hope you’ll keep your promise this time.

With love, Izuku Midoriya.”

—---

“Good to know you’re still keeping your promise,” pointed out the freckled man, a smile appearing on his face. From this view, Katsuki would still recognize the same man who caught his heart years ago, even if the reflection of his younger self haunted his life since he left. “You should probably teach this to your younger self.”

The beach where the two lovers used to reunite during their intimate moments ended up being a place where two strangers would catch the lost time. What surprised them the most was how, years later, they could still read into each other’s eyes. Izuku could see the sadness in those mesmerizing crimson eyes when his own would reveal a surprise. It was the opposite feeling, but they planned to stay as long as they wanted this time because this would be their last conversation.

“I never thought it would happen that way,” chuckled the freckled man, feeling the other eyes on him. He couldn’t pretend this never happened and this part of his past wasn’t blocking him from moving on. Maybe it was his time to speak his truths, not to Katsuki but to his mind. “Facing you again after you left me on the beach that night and hearing the voice of a man who broke my heart. You know, some people would call me crazy to do such a thing, but I came here for answers…not for me, but both of us.”

“What do you mean ?”

“Don’t you think we waited enough to face this conversation? We were afraid, but it’s been years, and we need to know the meaning behind our last conversion. I’m not doing it for me, but for you because you don’t seem like you moved on too…am I right ?”

Katsuki avoided his gaze and could feel how the freckled man made a smirk. Of course, he guessed it, especially with how fast the blond tried to reach this place before it was too late.

“Let’s be honest for once, for the adults we are now and the teenagers we left behind in this place.” Izuku knew why he was here, he prepared himself to accept any words or truth leaving the other’s lips. No matter the answer, it was necessary for both of them.

“What do you want me to say? Congratulations on your wedding with an extra you don’t even love? Because this won’t be the kind of thing, you’ll hear from me tonight, nerd.”

Izuku could recognize this tone anywhere. It wasn’t a surprise that the blond was easily jealous. Even in their short relationship, Katsuki would be insecure about not being enough. This surprised his younger self because, behind this shelter, he was hiding someone afraid of losing his loved ones.

“I’m not here to hear them, and it would be hypocrisy from me to point this out. As you can see by the words you read in my letter, I’m trying to figure things out. I don’t want to live a life full of regrets, and guess what? You’re one of them.”

The Izuku standing in front of him was so different from the one he left on the beach. His face stayed the same, but his mindset and confidence surprised him. Don’t get him wrong. He knew the nerd would be destined to do something great, and his instincts were always right. A part of him couldn’t help but be proud of the strong person Izuku became today, even if Katsuki was a part of this transformation against his will.

“I could say many things about you reaching out now when I could’ve had a partner or been occupied, but I decided to accept your offer because I’m here for something else.“ his red ruby eyes highlighted in the darkness around them, catching the smaller man’s attention. Were they always so shining? Or did the time make them prettier?

“Can I ask what your intentions are tonight? Breaking my heart a second time or explaining why you moved out two weeks before the end of the summer ?”

Katsuki sighed. He showed vulnerabilities like he always did with this man who knew how to break his shield. Why should he lie when the person before him already knows his intentions? This time, he wouldn’t run away and face the consequences of his actions.

“I reached you tonight to apologize.”

Izuku didn’t answer. His eyes widened, and his emerald iris shined in the darkness, followed by the stars watching their unexpected reunion. He was conscious this would happen one day, but it was way different from his expectation.

“I respect your intentions for letting meaningful words like these leave your lips, but you’re late.”

The comment made the taller man groan as he sat in the sand. His fingers traced the drawing on the floor as he felt the emerald eyes on his. Katsuki prepared himself for this reaction, and Izuku had all the right to think that way, but this was painful to hear.

“You know what they all say…better late than never,“ a laugh echoed in the empty place, realizing he was the only one to find this funny. Changing the atmosphere wasn’t the right thing to do… great start, Katsuki . “I spent the last years wondering how I should apologize properly and not be the asshole I used to be. I’m not proud of my actions, and I’ve never meant to hurt you.”

A part of Izuku wanted to believe his words, but after their last conversation, something broke. It would be a natural reaction to reject any of his apologies because he couldn’t return ten years later as if nothing had happened. It’s what Izuku should do, but the inner teenager inside him was relieved to finally see how his old lover stayed this time and gave him the apology he deserved.

It was a constant war in his heart, but even he couldn’t find the answers.

Izuku sighed, walking closer to the blond. He took a quick peek at him, who was hiding his face and afraid to face rejection. Katsuki was naive to think Izuku waited all this time for him, and before winning his heart back, he needed to give him the apology he deserved.

“Your words don’t sound sweet to me anymore, and I would love to trust them again, but no matter what I do, this always brings me back to you and this place. Tell me…Did you know what happened after you left ?” The smaller man asked, sitting beside him. A soft warmth appeared in the blond’s chest, even if he was worried about the following speech. “I stayed there all night until the first rays of the sun appeared, marking a new day and a story, but I stayed . I stayed here the entire night hoping to see you in my arms again, but you never showed up.”

“I didn’t know,” whispered the blond with a low tone, afraid to say something wrong. It was the first time he was listening to this version of the story and what happened after he ran away like a coward.

Izuku made a bitter laugh, his eyes glancing at the endless ocean in front of his eyes. “Of course, you didn’t because you never tried to reach me. The next year, I stayed on the same beach on the same date, even if a part of me was screaming about how useless this was. I knew you would never show up, but what if my worries were wrong for once ?”

“…and they were right,” completed the other, with a sad tone. He wasn’t aware of what Izuku sacrificed for him, and if he did, maybe he would’ve made the first move. His chest started to hurt, thinking about the guilt and sadness his old lover used to face because of his stupid mistakes. “I’m sorry, Izuku.”

The freckled man stayed silent. It always had been the words he wanted to hear, but why does it feel different now? It was supposed to heal him, not to make him sadder. Maybe it was the way the blond created his speech, the shaking tone and nostalgia creating this strange voice he had never seen before.

“I wish you could say the exact words to my younger self because I was constantly in pain. I lost a part of my soul that night,...and I was hoping to find it again tonight, but this made things more complicated.” Izuku’s fingers played with his shirt like he used to do during his teenage years. He felt the crimson eyes in this slight movement, and they both knew what this meant. Katsuki could be the only one to remember Izuku’s mimics so well as if he never forgot these details about the other. “You already read the letter, so you know that all my previous relationships always had been short stories because you would be here in a part of my mind. So, I’m asking you this question, and you have to answer me with all your sincerity, even if it’s painful to hear.”

Katsuki nodded, loosing himself into the green emerald eyes. During a few seconds, he had a deja vu of their first meeting, when they fell in love at first sight. Things changed as the years went, but they both knew this reunion was something they needed to figure out their life.

“That night, I asked you if your feelings were sincere because I was ready to give you the world…but tell me, did you ever love me that summer of 95 ?”

Silence echoed on the beach, letting the endless waves echo in their ears. The two men were conscious of each word's meaning, and Izuku’s eyes were waiting for an answer. He had been desperate by those words leaving his lips and hearing all the answers, but it wasn’t a dream anymore…it was a reality where he could finally find peace with himself.

“I’m sorry, I can’t answer that question, Izuku,” answered the blond, observing how the other’s face turned pale. They hated this feeling of deja vu, and having another rejection and the confirmation that this love was one-sided, sincerely hurt the smaller man.

“Alright, let me ask you another question then…” he tried to hide the tears falling down his cheeks, his heart screaming to cut the conversation and forget about him. He knew this pain like yesterday because it reminded him of a reality where he and Katsuki fell apart. This time, he raised his head and looked straight into the crimson eyes. “Why did you leave the next morning instead of giving me an explication ?”

Katsuki hated how his heart beat fast at seeing Izuku being here and talking with his vulnerabilities. He despised the teenager he was years ago and the consequences in their life today. They both knew this wasn’t just a summer love because a short relationship like this wouldn’t hurt so much.

“I’m afraid to tell you how I can’t answer that question too. I’m sincerely sorry, Izuku-”

“Stop saying you’re sorry !” Shouted the other, stepping back and teary eyes revealed by the full moon's light. “It’s the only thing you can say since you returned, but you’re not 16 anymore. You can’t always escape your problem because you’re afraid to name your feelings. I gave you a second chance by inviting you here, but I’m starting to think this would be better if you never accepted it.”

The shaking tone escaping from the smaller man’s lips filled the previous silence, his tears reflecting like the waves in the sand. Katsuki had no reason to lie to him again, especially when he could name his feelings now and shouted to the world how he sincerely loved Izuku Midoriya…but why was it so hard to say them? Instead, he looks like an asshole again.

“Listen, this is more complicated than it seems-” he tried to reach the smaller man’s shoulder before being rejected. The sight was sadder from this proximity, and their chest filled with sadness.

Izuku made a bitter laugh. “It happened ten years ago, Katsuki. 10 long and endless years where you had time to figure out your life and the people you wanted around you. If you wanted, you would’ve reached me again, and I’ll be yours today, but I’m afraid this won’t be a reliant now.” He moved closer, looking straight into his eyes, and wiped his tears. “I wasted ten years of my life waiting for you, maybe missing the love of my life just because I thought you changed. You didn’t change at all, and I still have the feeling of facing the teenager I’ve seen that night. Maybe it would be better if I never sent this letter to you and got married without you knowing any of my life again…but it’s time to go. You gave me the answers I wanted, and this is our last goodbye, Katsuki Bakugo.”

At this moment, time stopped. Minutes became endless seconds when Katsuki lost himself in his old lover's teary eyes, seeing his younger self's reflection breaking Izuku’s heart for the first time. He didn’t have any excuse now. He was an adult who knew what was right and wrong, especially toward others’ feelings.

Katsuki hated himself for not doing the right thing, observing how Izuku waited a few minutes to see how his summer love would change his behavior. Unfortunately, the taller man didn’t move, and a bitter laugh escaped his lips. His heart was once again broken by the same man who bought light to his life. His shadow slowly moved away, reaching the exit and hating how even their second chance couldn’t solve his worries.

“I knew it,” he whispered, letting his salty tears find the dry sand. Tonight, he was supposed to have the answers to his unsolved problems, and he had them: Katsuki Bakugo wasn’t worth fighting if he couldn’t make a proper rejection.

Katsuki heard the footsteps moving away, and something awoke in his chest. His heart beat faster as his body moved in his own, reaching the smaller man and grabbing him by the wrist. The sudden touch caught the freckled man’s attention, hate, and sadness could be read into his eyes. They were under a cave, the one, the tourist, would take to enter this lost beach in this beautiful landscape.

“Wait-” Katsuki’s voice echoed in the cave, each word filling the previous silence. His grab was thin, and if the other wanted to leave, he could…but Izuku stayed . His heart started to feel a small light of hope as he put his head down and confessed his unspoken truth. “It took me ten years to realize how much I love you. This could be described as a summer love for others, but it was the first time someone brought me back to life. You have the right not to trust my words because I was an asshole for leaving overnight, but I’ll tell you everything you need to know because I’m afraid of losing you again.”

Izuku didn’t answer and let the taller man say the sincere answers he would’ve loved to hear that summer night.

“You asked me if I ever loved you, but this question is tricky. How could I ever describe this unique experience we both had in words when you’ve been haunting my nights since I left? Your love was addicting, tender, and way too understanding for an asshole like me, but I still cherish our memories like the first day.”

He glanced at the viridian eyes, carefully listening to each of his words.

“I’m still talking to your ghost, explaining why I would never be enough for someone like you because you had too much love to give to the world. I couldn’t be your world and everything if one day we’ll fall apart like my parents did, and losing you seemed to be the worst case. I made this fear a reality, so I can’t answer this question in the past tone…because I still and never stopped loving you, Izuku Midoriya.”

Izuku’s eyes went wide. His body was shaking, probably because he had stood in the same position for too long, and he didn’t eat lunch at the party earlier. Their meeting occupied him, and he forgot to take care of himself. This wasn’t enough to explain why happiness reached his heart at the previous words, feeling how the grab tightened slowly before fading away. Izuku hated how he was already missing the last touch, almost as if tasting it again awakened the flame in his chest.

“You blamed me for running away like a loser? You’re right because I thought being away from you would fade the emptiness in my chest. I knew what was expecting me the next day because my old hag planned to leave earlier for an emergency in Japan.” He sighed, “I knew this wouldn’t be a good thing for us, and I didn’t want to leave you without an answer, but I made it worse. My younger self believed that leaving you with the idea of me being an asshole would be easier than admitting my feelings and being vulnerable around you. It was the first time I fell in love with someone, and I didn’t know what to do.”

“Why….” Izuku whispered with a shaking tone. This time, he was searching into the crimson eyes for untold truths, something hidden between the meaning of his words, and he saw it. He noticed the sincerity and regret in each of his words and couldn’t handle it. “Why didn’t you tell me anything about you leaving earlier? You knew I’ll be understanding, even sad, but at least it’ll be better than trying to hate you.”

“Because I knew you’ll react that way and be mad at me. You’ll hide your pain under your fake smile, the one I know too well. I hated the idea of me being the reason for your pain.”

Izuku chuckled, “You missed that point. It’s the least I could say.”

The taller man sighed. His fingers moved slowly into the soft skin he missed, tracing the new scars and wanting to know their story. Izuku didn’t fight back, letting the chills down his body as he closed his eyes. He trusted the blond momentarily and listened to his heavy breath against his skin. Both their heart were beating faster, but the moment was marked in this timeline as the reunion they wished they had had earlier.

“I’m sorry for being an asshole, for letting you think it was stupid when you’ve been the only thing I can think about in the past ten years.” He whispered, his hands leaving the freckled man’s shoulder to find his chin.

Izuku held back his breath when he felt the familiar fingers ruffling his lips, his body moving closer to the taller figure. He still remembers their good moments and how his fiancé could never treat him that way, no one would be able to make him loved like Katsuki Bakugo did.

“You have the right not to trust my words, but you knew I always was a man of actions.” His fingers gently cupped the freckled cheeks, and their eyes met tenderly. During a short moment, Izuku had the impression of being a teenager in love again and running away from the world with his boyfriend. “I could give you all the arguments in the world, but I know how a stolen kiss could be strong enough to sell my truth with your lips.”

Izuku’s scarred hands moved closer to the blond’s neck, one hand holding his hair like they used to do in their secret making-out session. Katsuki would notice how, ten years later, the freckled man would still stand on tiptoes to be his size and thoroughly view the mesmerizing man who had given him a reason to live.

“Kiss me, Kacchan,” whispered Izuku, his fingers losing themselves into the other’s back and spiky hair.

The order was simple, and the desire in their chest had never been this strong. It was impossible to ignore this time because they both knew the flame on their chest awoke, and their feelings were stronger than ever. If it were a reason to go to hell for cheating on his partner, Izuku would gladly bring his lover to share the forbidden and feel alive again.

Katsuki was the one who caught Izuku's lips, his callous hands behind his neck as their bodies glued together. There was no more proximity as the two men closed their eyes again, moving their lips into a tender kiss and grabbing the other as if their life was on the line. Their bodies moved on their own when Izuku deepened their kiss, searching for the other as a confirmation of this reality where they weren’t dreaming. Izuku gasped, holding his breath and making a low whine when he felt the guilty pleasure of tasting his lover’s lips again.

Even with his past relationships, their lips never felt the same. They weren’t welcoming like Katsuki’s, able to make him vulnerable and make his body his with a simple kiss. It took them many years to figure out how the only thing they needed in their life was each other, and forcing fate could be a good thing sometimes.

Katsuki was the one who broke the kiss to take back his breath, opening his eyes and observing the loving gaze in the emerald eyes that opened at the same time. His heart was beating so fast that he was leaving his chest, and Izuku smiled. They knew they did a bad thing because the smaller man was engaged to someone, but it felt right .

“Kacchan,“ he mumbled softly, his scarred hands and soft fingers cupping his lover’s cheeks. “You have no idea how long I’ve waited to see you being mine again.”

“But why be engaged to someone you don’t even love? It makes you a cheater, and you know what the world would say if they knew about you being a heartbreaker.”

Izuku smirked, bringing the taller man closer and kissing his neck. “Sometimes, the strongest person could make mistakes, you taught me this lesson. I have no regrets about asking you to kiss me again because we could run away like the teenagers we were once.”

“And leaving your friends and fiancé behind ?” His fingers played with the green curls, feeling the small head against his chest. “Who are you, and what did you do to Izuku Midoriya ?”

The freckled man laughed as their fingers intertwined together again. The familiar shadow slowly guided Katsuki as their feet reached the ocean's waves.

“We could stay on this beach all night and think about our future tomorrow because there’s something I've wanted to say for a long time…” he made a sign of moving closer, closer enough to feel his lover’s ears against his breath. “I had never stopped loving you, Katsuki Bakugo.”

The blond rolled his eyes, smirking before selling their lips together. This time, it was tender, but they knew they would’ve been able to live without each other…not when their love was addicting since day one.

“You’re stupid, nerd,” he answered, hearing a soft giggle between two kisses and feeling how the night belonged to them. No one knew what happened after the two shadows disappeared in the night, hands holding each other as they reached the city and closed the hotel room door.

The night had her reasons, such as the beach who knew how to keep secrets. The sweet whisper they exchanged on the beach, stolen kisses, and hidden touches led them to catch-up times. Ochako and Toga didn’t even question the letter under their table the following morning, and another letter was addressed to Izuku’s fiancé.

When the city of Greece was waking up under the first rays of the sun, the birds sang like a movie decoration, and the ships started to arrive at the port, Izuku and Katsuki were already far from it all. Their bags in hand, the money flown in plane tickets to make up for lost time and broken memories.

Izuku wasn’t proud of breaking a heart, but he won something better: his summer love, which ended up being his first and his last as the beautiful ring stood on his finger five years later, at the same beach.

Notes:

Hi, readers and people who discover my works for the first time! I wanted to write a little note after this one shot because, contrary to the idiots in my fic, I’ve had difficulty dealing with my mental health the last 4 months. This also included my passion/interest in writing, which sincerely bothered me, so I’m glad to share this work. To be honest, I’ve been finding small interest in writing again, but I’m getting back in the game with my angst and one shot, so I apologize if it’s shorter than usual. I have a confession to make….I can’t believe I was the one who wrote the first part during the summer of 95 because how I, a stupid writer with two brain cells, could write something so good ?! If you have the secret, tell me please-

Joke aside, I wanted to thank the readers for the kudos, bookmarks, and the time they sacrificed to read this stupid one-shot. This simple gesture means a lot to me, and I hope you like the story. You can see my other stories on Twitter (@Katzukux), but this application became a mess, and I don’t feel safe to post here anymore…so I’ll post my stories on AO3, and I made a Patreon for the side ships I like, you can find the link on my Twitter account if you’re interested!

Thanks for reading, take care of yourself, and thanks for your support <3
