Chapter Text

Tonight is the night their going to knight the knights.

Victor was at home in the kitchen making some coffee and was making dinner while his laptop was playing the knighting.

"The street kid with the impossible dream of becoming a knight," Nate starts.

"Impossible, that is, until the queen herself made a shocking decision," Pam finishes.

"No, he doesn't come from a noble bloodline... but he might just have the heart of a hero."

'Might just have the heart? He has more heart than that Thoddeus or whatever his name is,' Victor thinks.

"And Ballister made the most of that chance, graduating top of his institute class. A class that includes none other than… Ambrosius Goldenloin. A descendant of Gloreth," Pam says.

Victor rolls his eyes as he flips the chicken over. 'Blood doesn't always matter.'

"With Ballister joining the ranks, for the first time in history, our safety will be put in the hands of a commoner."

They change from camera to camera, getting the opinion of the people.

"I don’t feel safe."

"It’s not what Gloreth wanted."

"Ugh. I really hope the queen knows what she’s doing."

It flips back to the reporters.

"So tonight, only one question remains," Nate says.

"Will the kingdom accept this knight who might not be right?" Pam finishes.

"My lords and ladies, the knighting ceremony is just moments away."

Victor looks at his laptop and sees the knights on their horses walk out into the stadium.

It was Ambrosius Goldenloin first.

"I hereby pronounce you Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin, hero of the realm."

The crowd starts cheering and then went silent.

"My people, starting today, any of you should be able to hold the sword if you want it. If you earn it. I’ve watched this young man earn it many times over. Your sword. I hereby pronounce you Sir Ballister Boldheart, hero of the realm!" The Queen says, smiling.

There was silence for a moment and then cheering and chanting of, "Boldheart! Boldheart!"

"Congratulations, Sir Boldheart. Let a new era of heroes begin with you."

When Boldheart takes the sword, a green laser hits the Queen and Ambrosius tries to stop it.

Victor hadn't noticed this until he heard someone on the news say, "He's killed the Queen!"

The reporter drops his plate and it shatters. The Queen... she was dead?

"Oh my god," Victor whispers, putting a hand to his mouth. "Queen Valerin..."

He looks at the screen and the recording had stopped. He cleans up the plate and was wondering why Boldheart would kill the Queen.

When the kingdom was waking up in the morning, Victor had already been awake. He had woken up at four to start writing about the Queen's death.

Victor posted articles anonymously online as 007, something people call James Bond. He posted about the Institute and what they've done and they'd post about politics, crime and other things that were happening that no one would talk about.

Victor goes to his job at the cafe nearby and says, "Hello, my name's Victor, what can I get you?"

"Can I have a medium latte?"

"Of course, that'll be three dollars and seventy-five cents."

"Debit."

The woman pays and waits for her latte. Victor makes it quickly and makes some art on it and gives it to the woman.

Near the middle of his six hour shift he gets really tired, luckily, he hadn't taken his break yet.

The TV was on and Victor looks at it as he makes himself a drink.

"The queen killer is still out there," Nate says.

"Everyone is scared," Pam says.

"Not since Gloreth’s monster has anything been so hated."

The camera starts flipping to other people's opinions once again.

"He never should’ve been a knight."

"He wasn’t one of us and hated us for it."

"A commoner."

"He’s vile."

"He’s got no place in this kingdom."

"He’s a murderer."

"He’s a monster."

'He's innocent,' Victor thinks, 'I just have to prove it.'

The next hour for Victor was the same.

"Hi, my name's Victor, what can I get for you?"

"Large lavender iced tea please."

"Alright, that'll be four dollars and fifty cents," Victor replies.

"Thanks, can I pay in cash?"

"Of course, sir."

The man hands him ten dollars and Victor gives him five dollars and fifty cents back. "Here's your change sir."

He nods and puts it in the tip jar.

"Thank you, sir."

"Hello, how may I help you?"

"Two medium hot cocoas and one large coffee, two milk, one sugar."

"Of course. Your total is ten dollars eleven cents."

She pays and she and her kids go to the waiting spot and the woman starts a conversation with Victor.

"Can you believe that he killed the queen? After all we've done for him?! I mean, honestly, the audacity he has. He's a commoner, we shouldn't have let him become a knight in the first place. Don't you agree? And besides, it's not what Gloreth would have wanted?"

'How do you know what Gloreth would have wanted?! You weren't even there! And he is a commoner, who cares?! Blood means absolutely nothing! You humans just started making this rule that you have to be noble to be pure and worthy! Gods, you disgust me sometimes,'

That's what Victor wanted to say. But instead, he said, "Of course, I hope they catch the killer. Here are your drinks ma'am."

"Thank you, may Gloreth be with you."

'May Gloreth be with you," Victor thinks in a mocking tone.

"Victor, can you take that order? Mary's on break and I'm making way too many drinks."

"Sir yes sir," Victor jokes.

"Oh shut it,"

Victor takes the order and then makes the drinks.

The last few hours of his shift were slow, and he was quite thankful about that. They divide the tips by three since it was only Victor, Mary and Ace there.

"Mary, Ace, let's get outta here. Evening shift is here," Victor informs.

"See you two tomorrow."

"See ya!"

Victor nods and goes home. His pantry was empty and he should probably get some food... but he had to pay the bills.

He writes an article about the Queen's death and then posts it after reviewing it. Victor practices ballet and then goes to bed, hoping his story gave some people hope that Boldheart didn't kill the Queen, and that someone else did and tried to frame him.
