It really has been a tough year as a Junior third year in high school. College preparation, entrance exams, balancing extracurriculars, the torturing classes–anything in general at this point. Everything seems so troubling and stressful with this immense bundle of pressure stacking over your head.
But when summer finally commenced, it felt so relieving that the nerve-wracking school year was finished. Half of the heavy weight was lifted off your shoulders when break began, your mind was free from all of the studies and worries.
Oh, and speaking of summer starting, it’s also your one-year anniversary with your boyfriend! Aside from all of the chaos junior year had given you, you were more than grateful to have someone as breathtaking–but also infuriating–as Scaramouche.
Just a year ago, he confessed his feelings for you on the last day of school during the celebration festival. At that time, he was a friend of a friend, you knew him all right but not well enough. You were also very intimidated by him so you never tried poking at him. Now, things have changed.
He was the dream boyfriend you never knew you needed especially through third year. Despite being a tease and really difficult with expressing his true feelings, you loved him a lot. Scaramouche made sure you were in the liveliest mood every day, he often helped you study or prepare, and honestly, he was the absolute best. And now, it’s time to celebrate this journey!
“There must have been an angel by my side… Something heavenly led me to you..! Look at the sky, it’s the color of love.”
“Scara!! Come on! You’ve kept me up all night and day for your ‘special surprise,’ I’m tired of waiting!” You complained, following your boyfriend who was quite literally ditching you. “Can’t you at least wait for me?” A bit frustrated by his lack of hints, you had pampered him to the core this earlier morning since it was a special day. You had many gifts prepared for him and he notified you that he had something spectacular planned for the evening too.
“Hold on, it’s supposed to be a surprise! You can’t pester me all day.” He calls back, still speeding through the crowded halls for some reason. The bell had just rung, and all three grades were rushing to leave immediately after the last-day festival your school hosts every year for the ones who weren’t Seniors. You only found yourself trying to focus on his indigo hair from the hundreds of other students.
After an eternity of pushing through others, you caught up to Scaramouche waiting for you by the gate with a bouquet of flowers. “(Name)! Finally, I thought you were being crushed by all of the ruckus on campus.” He teased, smirking tauntingly as he walked up to you and handed you the flowers.
“Psh, just shut up. But thank you..~!” You appreciatively took it, a warm smile creeping up your face. Before you knew it, Scaramouche pulled you into a hug, wrapping his arms around your body and lightly swaying you side to side.
You giggled at his sudden show of affection. You cuddled him back, kissing his cheek in the meantime.
“I’m surprised the flowers haven’t died in my car from this hot temperature today.” He commented, resting his cheek on your head.
“Well, I’m glad they didn’t, they’re very pretty! So are you gonna show me the surprise you have planned for us or are you going to torture me more?” You pulled him away and held his shoulders to face him while tilting your head, almost like you were trying to lure him into your antics.
Scaramouche sighs, pulling you out of campus and towards the student parking. “Okay, fine, we’ll go now since you’ve been nagging me nonstop.” The both of you got into his car as he started driving towards the planned destination. If you had somewhat expected him to tell you where he was bringing you, he wouldn’t even let you glance at the GPS he set up on his phone! Just how serious is this surprise?
Occasionally, he’d flirt with you at almost every red light. Whether it was a kiss on your hand, an arm over your shoulders, or failed attempts at making out with you. How irritating[ly cute of him]. But it was amusing to see him alarmed when you’d point and call out: “The light’s green!” He’d immediately put his hands back on the steering wheel and groan in exasperation that his little “session” was interrupted.
You stared at the places you both were passing as he was driving by, taking in the busy streets and shops nearby. Though you’ve seen this plenty of times, it all felt nostalgic and peaceful to you. It was nice driving around with Scaramouche and the fact it’s your one-year anniversary makes it greater.
“How many tons of love inside? I can’t say. When I was led to you, I knew you were the one for me. I swear whole world could feel my heartbeat.”
There, you had arrived at the spot. A prepossessing view of the beach against the alluring sky that’s about to set for the night. It was absolutely worth seeing and the way the ocean glistens and sparkles makes the moment a thousand times better. Well, also the fact that Scaramouche had planned this very moment for you also made it a thousand times better too.
When he led you out of the car, he intertwined his hand with yours. “Leave your shoes and socks in the car, I brought sandals for us.” He told you, pointing to your sneakers.
You nodded, shifting your feet out of your shoes and stuffing your socks inside the shoe so they don’t get misplaced. Scaramouche did the same and placed both pairs of shoes into the passenger seat. He later moved to grab a bag in the back of his car and handed you some sandals. Matching sandals to be exact.
The pattern on the shoes was the same, but the colors were opposite–he had a cream-white color with a brown design outline while you had the colors reversed. It was really adorable and sweet of him to be doing all of this. You both really enjoyed spoiling each other rotten.
“So how do you like this view, hm?” Scaramouche asked, leading you closer to the beach. Your feet met with the grainy sand, the warmth of the sun radiating onto you two.
“I love it! It’s sooo pretty!” You exclaimed, glimpsing at your boyfriend with a soft smile and obvious admiration.
He stared back, beaming almost instinctively at your blissfulness and excitement. “I’m glad you like it.” Leaning in, Scaramouche gives you an inviting kiss in return.
The flaring light of the sky and ocean combined together shined beautifully around the two of you. Gorgeous blue from the watery waves, the sparkling white foam, and the setting sun were all attracting you the more you were there in the moment. Everything was like a fantasy you never want to wake up from.
“Hey, come on, let’s go play in the water!” You said thrillingly, dragging him towards the open waves alongside you.
Scaramouche stubbornly replied, trying to pull himself away from you. “Stop tugging me, I can walk perfectly fine myself.”
“Nope! You’re coming with me whether you like it or not!” Grinning mischievously, you ignored his protests and playfully jogged towards the water.
Suddenly, he scooped you up bridal style when you least expected it. “Don’t give me that smug attitude of yours.” He huffs, carrying you towards the strong ocean himself. He jogged closer, and a cheeky smirk appeared on his face. Uh, oh.
“Scara, wait–” Woosh! Too late, he threw you into the incoming waves. You landed in the sand, soaked to the maximum as you spat out the salty liquid. You were met with a cackling Scaramouche before you. “It’s not funny, stop laughing!”
You stood up, drenched, while you waddled towards Scaramouche who was out of breath from laughing so hard. Maybe he even had a few tears shed, who knows? You pulled him by his shirt and stormed with him deeper into the ocean, throwing him into the water with another loud splash.
He let out a gasp, pushing back his wet bangs, and glared at you. “You–!” Scaramouche got caught off once again when you leaped onto him. The two of you ended up crashing into the water as you laughed at his shocked expression. “Are you trying to drown me?!” He shrieked, keeping his head up and holding you by the waist.
Before you knew it, he flipped the positions and dunked you into the bumpy waves, pressing you down but also making sure he wasn’t killing you. Your laughs were drowned(literally) and you tried to stay afloat. “Scaramouche!!!” You yelled, grabbing onto his arms to pull yourself up.
Scaramouche chuckled, helping you by yanking you towards him. He kissed your forehead lovingly despite his attempt at drowning you. “Can’t even handle a bit of water now?” He teased you, still giggling while he brushed your wet hair back. “You look so stupid right now, I can’t stop staring at you.” Flashing his menacing grin at you meant he was up to no good. He scooped up water in his palm and splashed it on your face.
You tried swatting his hand away and you stomped your feet to spatter him. Back and forth, the two of you played this game of swishing and swashing at one another. Giggling and laughing in the gleaming sun, it was an enjoyable time to remember.
“It’s going all up my nose, calm the hell down!” You snorted, turning away from him to empty your stinging nose.
He pushed you downwards by the back of your head and dipped your face under the water. “Calm down my ass.”
Scaramouche kept his shit-eating grin, being rather playfully violent with you. By the time you surrendered, he was still dunking you over and over again repeatedly. Of course, to an extent. It was just a humorous but not-so-harmless game, it’s supposed to be your anniversary surprise after all.
A while after the torture and hysterics, Scaramouche pulled you into his embrace, kissing the top of your head and sneering. “You look like a naked molerat, my love.”
“Oh be quiet, I hate you so much right now.” You huffed, laying your head against his chest and breathing heavily from all of the laughing and choking on nasty ocean water entering your mouth. Glancing up at him, you shot a nice smile at him and leaned in to kiss him.
Obviously, Scaramouche kissed you back passionately, holding you tight against him. “I love you so much too.” He mocked and squished your face to which you rolled your eyes. The sun was beautifully setting by now, the sky streaking with orange and pink across the blue sky, the light flashing down upon you both magnificently. This moment was like it was straight out of cinematography.
Scaramouche pulled away and motioned for you to get on his back. “Come on, this wasn’t even the main surprise.” He told you while you hopped onto his back, holding his shoulders and wrapping your legs around him.
“Huh? Then what is?” You asked, moving your face closer to his cheek.
“You’ll see.” He turns his head to look back at you, smiling widely. While holding you behind him, he walked back to the shoreside with you. The water splashed onto you two harshly from all of his stomping as he raced away. You giggled in response, feeling very content about this eventful day.
Scaramouche was just so charming and irresistible, you were so glad to be his partner. It made you more than happy that he trusts and loves you just as much as you do. All you want to do is to make him the best man he can ever be; you want to be the first person to hug him when he’s upset, you want to help him get through every obstacle life offers. And you’re serious when it comes to him.
“I love you.” You whispered beside his ear. He made it to shore finally, placing you down carefully and facing you.
“I know, I love you too.” He lightly shakes your shoulders. “Come on my naked molerat, I still need to show you my main surprise.” Extending his hand out to you, you gratefully took his open palm, interlacing your fingers. Scaramouche walked with you to a place located nearby, an open beach diner.
The place gave off a romantic feeling, it’d warm anyone’s heart passing by even if they weren’t planning on eating there. Fairy lights decorated the wooden roof, the tables were covered in white cloth, and decorated with a vase filled with roses. Everything felt like a wonderful dream.
He stared at you when you both arrived. “We’re here. I already reserved a place for us beforehand, by the way.” He tucked a hair strand behind your ear. “Happy one-year anniversary, dearest.” The look and smile he gave you definitely impacted your heart and mind. You felt like melting away under his touch and hold just by his mesmerizing presence. You felt so lucky to have such a lovely boyfriend who always stuck by your side.
Everything about this guy made your heart soften and bloom, you only want to admire him more and more. He’s been nothing but sweet to you and you have fallen head over heels for him. Absolutely perfect is a way to describe him. This day was nothing but excitement and fun, you’re grateful to have spent this last day of school and first-year anniversary with your one and only.
“Happy one-year anniversary to you too.”
“When I lay eyes on you, you wrapped me up in the color of love. You gave me the kiss of life.”
★・・・・★・・・・
The dinner went very well, you both even took a proper walk on the beach after to finish the night–with a loving kiss too of course. You were in the passenger's seat, over-exhausted from the cheerful day. You were wearing Scaramouche’s black hoodie he always had with him no matter what condition it was. It was deep into the night, eleven o’clock to be exact and you were both headed home after the perfect dinner.
Scaramouche had already parked his car in the driveway of your house, all of your relatives were already asleep. He admired you for a bit, seeing how silly you looked while you were dead asleep.
He got out of his car and walked over to your side, opening the door and picking you up. Despite trying his very hardest not to disturb your slumber, when he was moving you out of the car, he bumped your head against the roof of the car.
You obviously were startled awake, groaning a bit. “Owww…! That hurts, you know?” Grumbling out that statement, you opened your eyes to see him chuckling a bit. “Stop laughinggg..!” You whined in annoyance, clearly half asleep.
“Alright, alright, sorry.” He smirked at you through the dim light of the shining moon, he carried you out of the car and towards your house. “Do I get to stay over tonight?” Scaramouche asked softly, placing you down on your feet so you can unlock the door.
“Of course you can, why do you keep asking all the time? I’ve told you a billion times now that you can stay whenever you want to.” You inform him again, opening the door with your keys.
“I’m just trying to make you feel comfortable, it’d be an invasion of privacy if I didn’t, idiot.”
“Whatever, you’re my boyfriend, you’re free to come over anytime. Now give my forehead a kiss for what you’ve done!” Commanding him, you pointed to your forehead at the little bruise that was forming.
Of course, being the caring boyfriend he is, he leaned in and gave your forehead a quick peck to the forehead. Always so giving and considerate.
...Well, maybe not always.
