Even if the Moon and Stars Collapse

Summary:

Camyron Lupin was much like any other eleven year old entering their first year at Hogwarts. Eager to learn and overly excited by every little thing that in any way resembled the wizarding world. She though she knew where to put her focus during school when she wasn’t shifting with her older brother Remus every full moon, well that was until she had her first proper conversation with one Regulus A. Black flipping her whole world sideways and causing life as she knew it to go completely bonkers.

Chapter 1: the boys on the train

Chapter Text

Camyron was much like any other eleven year old wizard entering their first year at Hogwarts's. She was Eager to learn and overly excited by every little thing that in any way resembled the wizarding world like most other half bloods or muggleborn's her age . “Chocolate frogs” she read out loud excitedly to herself mesmerized as she plopped back down beside the window of her train compartment while staring at the famous wizard card shifting and changing in her hand and then dissapearing only to come right back again, she was on her way to her first year in a wizarding school ‘Yes! An actual wizarding school’ she though a little too excitedly, the same school her brother had started attending just one year before her. She was gonna get to spend an entire year with her brother now, away from the home and all the other kids, she couldn't wait.

From where shes sitting, She glances across at her older brother Remus, worried because of how near the worst part of the month for both siblings was getting, “Remmy” she called getting his attention, hoping to distract him from the upcoming full moon in two days, “have some of this chocolate frog with me will you?, you gifted me one last Christmas and i just adored it so much that i had to get another”. He smiled down to her and ruffled her hair, “thank you little one but im okay” he smiled lightly “have it for yourself, you haven't stopped talking about them since Christmas'' He chuckled.

Remus was always like this with Cam, refusing to take food from her, giving her some of his in the orphanage, even after a full moon, no matter how much she protested just so he could make sure she had enough to eat that day. He was a wreck leaving for his first year at Hogwarts last year, he hating leaving her alone to deal with it all, but she didn't mind, she liked that he finally got some time for himself. Ever since their mom had given them up after their dad died, Remus had become her rock, he was extremely protective over his little sister and had more often than not gotten into fights with the older boys in the home just to keep her safe. She loved her older brother but she had learned to take care of herself too and maybe now at Hogwarts she would finally get to prove it to him.

“How come you're not sitting with your new friends today Remmi ?" she questioned,"you haven't stopped talking about them all summer” she said matter of factly giving him another worried glance. “Well because dear Cammi” he replied smirking at the nickname he knew she hated “I simply couldn't leave my baby sister to sit all by herself on the train to Hogwarts, you know i'd worry” he smiled calmly to her. “I know that Remus but-” She was interrupted suddenly by the compartment door swinging open.

"REMUS" Screamed three peculiar looking boys, all piling into the compartment and jumping directly on top of Remus, screaming far too loud and just being well boys, she sighed to herself. They laughed and talked for a few more moments until a small rather plump looking boy turned to her and suddenly went wide eyed “ Uh Remus?” the boy questioned, causing all three boys to turn towards him, “Who’s that?” he said pointing directly at cam. The other two boys jumped up so suddenly upon finally seeing her, each turning a darker shade of beat red and looking anywhere but Cam's face, “Sorry miss” they sheepishly apologized looking away until both Remus and Camyron burst out laughing causing the three boys left in the compartment to look around at each other, utterly confused.

“Well lads” Remus choked out just now calming down from the fit of laughter, “This is my little sister Cam” he smiled looking overly smug and pleased as all the boys silently stared and turned back to him. “You idiot” the tallest of the group suddenly yelled, whacking Remus on top of the head, causing Cam to flinch and internally panic just a little bit. “You never told us you had a little sister,” the other boy with surprisingly long black hair said, flinging himself down next to her and throwing his arm around her shoulders.

“Sirius Black” he introduced himself as smiling down to her, “Moony’s favorite of course” he laughed not noticing Cams eyes widen at the use of the nickname and start aghast at Remus “YOU TOLD THEM” she shouted, probably a little too loud making the three boys cover their ears on instinct and Sirius who's name she now knew jump up in fear, “yes” Remus said softly, staring at her with a pointed look and taking his hands down from his ears, “I told them about what i am, but only after-” he was saying, only to be cut off by the tall boy who hit him on the head’.

“Whoa Whoa there, mini Remus'' the tall boy said putting his hands up infront of him in surrender “We figured it out by ourselves'' he said lightly “Remus only confirmed what we thought to be true." I looked at them all wearily, trying to decide if I trust these boys with Remmi's deepest secret or not. “Is that true Remus” I questioned looking at him for any sign of fear in his eyes, “Yes” he smiled clearly more relaxed now that his friends? I assume…. were sitting around him. “Okay then” I smiled, satisfied with this response, and mentally preparing myself for the headache id gain from the rest of this train journey.

Stepping off the train after 3 more hours of those boys, was pure joy like Cam had never felt, she loved her brother really, she truly did but Jesus were those friends of his more annoying than anything. She had to sit through hours of them being complete and utter idiots. God only knows how she survived them.

The tall boy, James as she had come to learn, was sort of like the ringleader of Remus' little group of friends, he wore black circular glasses that oddly suited him and by the sight of the clothes he was wearing he definitely came from wealth and he was also non stop talking about some girl from his year that he's so obviously obsessed with L - something, he really needs to get his stuff together and sort it out, i pray for the boys having to listen to him.

Then there was the other black haired boy Sirius. He also clearly came from a lot of wealth and he certainly talked as though he did. But most importantly Cam thought he had incredible hair ( she totally didn't ask him for hair tips at some point on the train ride ) and he also loved queen and Bowie, oh they were definitely going to be good friends, and Camyron was definitely not going to set him up with her obviously gay delusional brother.

And last, there was Peter, a pudgy small boy ,who unlike the other two seemed to be more on the commonish side of things although still higher up on the scale than her and Remus. Cam figured out that she didn't like Peter very much. He had an odd sort of cold vibe surrounding him that she couldn't quite put into place and it made her a little uncomfy to be around.

She wanted to bring up her feelings and vibes towards and from him to Remus, because well, her intuition usually wasn't wrong. But that would have to wait till later on because, as soon as she stepped off the train, there was a freakishly big man with a very large beard calling out to all the first year students and telling them to follow him to the dock, she turned and smiled waving goodbye to Remus and his friends ( and pointedly ignoring peter) and walked along to catch up to the rest of her year group so she wouldn't fall behind, giving her brother a reassuring ‘ill be okay’ look when she seen his worried expression.

Hagrid she’d learned this man's name was, brought her and her new classmates on the most mesmerizing boat ride over a huge lake, in these tiny little boats that somehow moved all by themselves, Cam could not take her eyes of the castle as soon as it came into view and she thought that it had to have been one of the most amazing and beautiful things she’s ever seen, it was enchanting. She was a little sad deep down when they came to port under the castle so that they could go inside. They were all brought into a big corridor and told to wait for a teacher to come and get them to be sorted ? whatever sorted meant… she was really going to kill Remus later for not telling her anything about this.

Chapter 2: A talking hat and disappointed brother

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

It was a hat, this ‘sorting’ everyone was so worried about turned out to be a hat. A small, brown haired boy next to her had gone on and on about some sort of ‘test’ they would have to do on their way into the castle but it turned out to be this, a hat?….. She could smell the thing from here. She looked around the hall and her eyes fell onto her older brother, he smirked at her and laughed as she shot him a ‘what the hell is going on?’ look, but her look got abruptly cut off by a teacher talking before she could see his response.

“Students” a small teacher called out. She was the same teacher that had led them to the hall from the corridor after Hagrid left them there. “You will now be sorted into your house” house? She pondered, what the hell does she mean by house? She glanced nervously around her fellow classmates but saw that they had all seemed rather calm and even a little excited. “There are four houses, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. If you come up to me as your name is called out, you will be sorted” She gulped nervously at the thought of having to stand up in front of everyone. Then she called out the first name.

“Regulus Black” a small nervous looking, timid boy with black hair that was strikingly similar to that of Remus’s friend Sirius walked up and sat on the chair and then the weirdest thing happened, the hat started speaking ?, “hmmmm” the hat began saying out loud before it went completely silent and after what felt like forever, it finally spoke again “SLYTHERIN” it shouted out to everyone and the table on the far side of the hall immediately erupted into applause as he began to make his way over. Cam risked a glance at Remus and his friends and saw that they were all worriedly looking at Sirius because he had paled and looked like he was about to be sick. ‘Maybe he’s his brother or something’ she thought to herself looking back as another student was called up by the teacher.

Before the teacher finally called out her name, and after what felt like a lifetime of waiting, Cam looked over to her brother again and saw a nervous look on his face, he was nearly as pale as Sirius had been at this point and even looked a little shaky. It was probably a mix of the moon and her being sorted that put him in that state so, to save herself from getting any more anxious than she already was, she looked away and back up to the chair as another name was called out.

“Gilderoy Lockhart” was his name and the hat was not even on his head for a full ten seconds before it blurted out “RAVENCLAW” in that voice she was beginning to dread, and then it was Finally her turn. “Camyron Lupin” was called and she took in a deep breath before beginning to make her way up to the chair. She didn't dare risk a glance at her brother again out of pure fear of the expression on his face and then before she could even blink the hat was placed on her head. “Hmmmm” she heard before the hat began speaking to just her. “A curious girl” it started. “You have a lot potential and the determination to prove yourself, i can see that your not afraid to go to any extent to do so” she was bewildered and a little freaked out by the fact that the hat knew this about her. “i see a very bright mind in here that will come to serve you well in time and oh yes, a very cunning nature within." she held her breath "hmmmm, yes i know exactly where to put you to ensure you learn what that all means, yes indeed little wolf” she paled hearing that, wanting nothing more than to rip this stupid old rag off her head. “Yes, better be ……. SLYTHERIN” and as the hat was pulled off her head and she stood up that same table with the black haired boy erupted into applause again.

When she turned around the teacher had a small barley noticeable frown on her face and looked almost sad ? She tried not to think too much about it and made her way over to the table, sitting down next to that black haired boy Regulus with a small smile on her face. “Hi” she started turning to him hoping to make some friends in her house. But he just scoffed and her and gave her a look before turning away. ‘Well isn't he just a ray of sunshine’ she thought glumly to herself turning away to look over at her brother as the last student was called up to be sorted.

When she looked up she was met his eyes and he looked completely disappointed and sad, and was fully pale in the face staring. She frowned and gave him a look as if to ask him what was wrong, but he just turned away from her at that point and had his head down at the table. ‘weird’ she thought to herself trying to think of a reason to explain why he might be acting like that, and what she might have done wrong. Her thoughts were soon broken by the loud voice of the headmaster speaking, Dumbledore, as she remembered him briefly from owning his chocolate frog card.

“Welcome students” he started “to another year here at Hogwarts, just a reminder before we begin our beautifully prepared feast” she groaned internally at the thought of what he might say and how long it might take. She was starving. “I've been told to remind you all and make the incoming first years' aware that the forbidden forest is well, forbidden” he chuckled “and with that note, let the feast begin” ‘short and sweet i like that’ she thought amused staring at the abundance of food that appeared in front of them on the table. She excitedly dug in never having seen as much food in all her life, pilling her plate full of potatoes and chicken and veg, the whole works, and it was truly amazing. After a wonderful dinner, top three in her opinion, she helped herself to a nice large slice of treacle tart and gulped down the last of her goblet full of sprite, before the platters began to dissapear.

She wanted to go and speak to her brother to see what has gotten him so gloomy but, before she could make her way over to him an older slytherin boy and girl stood up and called to all the first years to follow them. She frowned but obeyed, not wanting to break the rules on her first day here. She would have to talk to Remus tomorrow. She followed them both as they led them to what she assumed would be their dorms. “Cherry lemon” the boy called out and the door opened. ‘That is so cool’ she thought to herself making a mental note to tell Remus about it all while walking into the common room and looking around.

She smiled at how incredible the common room looked and then that same girl led her and the others to the common room called her and the other two slytherin girls in her year over to show them where their dorm room was. “First door on the right” she mumbled out to them looking bored and walking away. “Im Lucy, Lucy Potter" the first girl excitedly introduced herself as they made their way into the dorm room. “Im Camyron Lupin but you can call me Cam” she replied back with a light smile, “Aurora Bagman” the last girl introduced herself as, as they found their beds. “im the first slytherin in my family history” Lucy spoke out in a bubbly manner pulling her night clothes out of her trunk "i cant wait to see what my brother James thinks about that" she laughed out loud. Cam liked her already, she thought as she was doing the same while also laughing alongside Aurora. "i can already tell we're all gonna be best friends" Lucy smiled“I feel that way too” Cam smiled back to the girls climbing into her bed for the night, before bidding both girls goodnight and drawing her curtains shut. Her thoughts began drifting back to her brother, his reaction and the upcoming full moon as she fell into a deep dreamless sleep.

Chapter Text

When Cam woke up the next morning she felt more refreshed than she had ever before. ‘These beds are like sleeping on goddamn clouds’ she thought happily to herself while jumping up and out of bed and pulling out her now green and silver school robes and tie. “Wicked” she said out loud without meaning too earning an equally as cheerful response from Aurora “i know right” she exclaimed excitedly “now it all feels more real” she smiled earning an approving nod from Cam in response, then followed by some small talk as they made their way down and out of the common room to head for breakfast before their first day of classes.

While Cam and Aurora were talking absentmindedly to each other walking towards the great hall for breakfast she bumped head first into none other than her brother Remus. “Remus” she exclaimed, helping him back up to his feet “just the person i was looking for this morning” she smiled, turning back to Aurora. “I’ll catch up to you and Lucy at breakfast. I just wanted to talk to my brother really quick” she said, getting a curt nod and salute from Aurora in response as she began walking away towards the great hall. She turned back to Remus grinning from ear to ear. “Morning Remmi '' she smiled fondly, her face immediately dropping when she only got a blank faced, unhappy ‘morning’ in response. “What’s gotten into you Remus, first the disappointed sad glare last night, and now a monotone blank morning? What have i done in the little time that i was away from you to piss you off” she stated frowning and staring up at her brother waiting for his response. “You were sorted into slytherin Camyron'' he grumbled out “And you didn't and do not even seem in the slightest upset or annoyed by it” he continued coldly “That's my problem” he glared down at her. “And what my dear brother has that got to do with anything other than the colour i wear and the place i sleep” she questioned him, getting a little pissed off with the tone he was speaking to and accusing her in.
“It has to do with everything Cam '' he all but shouted at her “you can't be a slytherin, there’s no way my little sister, my everything is one of those snakes.” he hissed “I refuse to believe your like that greasy git Snivellus. The hat made a mistake, it must have” he essentially pleaded in that tone that he only used whenever he was being completely bonkers about something. “Remus you know me, you know who i am. Me being sorted into some silly school house doesn't change anything about who i am as a person, you're being completely irrational and quite frankly stupid right now” she said getting annoyed no longer wanting to be around her brother in this moment. “I honestly can't believe you right now Cam.” he said, throwing his arms up in frustration. “I can't believe that you're happy to be in that house with those kinds of wizards. I've never been more upset and disappointed in my life with you”.

His words stung Cam more than she would like to admit. “I refuse to accept the fact that my sister is a snake. '' He looked on the verge of tears at this point but Cam didn't care because she was beyond pissed and practically on the verge of crying herself. “Well Remus'' she drawled out sarcastically “If you can't accept the fact that your sister is in any way different from you, then maybe you're not the person i thought you were” she choked on her own words.” and to make another point” she sighed, continuing on “you have never even told me a singular thing about hogwarts since i got my letter, so how was i supposed to know what's what or anything about these goddamn houses.I don't care that i'm in Slytherin and if you really loved and cared about me, you wouldn't care either” she took a deep breath in “I don't know if this is the moon tonight messing with you or what Remus, but i don't like this person you're becoming”. With that, she turned away from him and practically ran towards the great hall, tears streaming down her cheeks from the way her brother, her rock, her literal everything had just treated her,she prayed it was just the moon.

As soon as she found her friends in the great hall and sat, the first thing she noticed was that Lucy was in a much similar state to her own, she turned to her “i take it your brother didn't take too kindly to you being in slytherin either” she lightly chuckled trying to lighten both of their moods. “No, he didn't” she practically whispered “he basically just disowned me as his sister and kept calling me a traitor and a snake” now she was definitely beginning to cry. Cam said the only thing she could think to respond with. “I'm in the same boat as you right now with my brother,”

“He just yelled and humiliated me in the corridors over it, even told me he was disappointed in me” she was now on the verge of tears again too, but managed to put on a brave face as slughorn, their head of house began passing around their class schedules for the year, she thanked him and turned back to her new friends. “But it's all gonna be okay for us yeah” she reassured both girls `We have each other now and our brothers might come to their senses soon who knows” she said but then lowered her voice to barley a whisper

“and if they don't come around well, then they're not very good brothers then now are they” she questioned causing both Lucy and Aurora to look up at her. “You're absolutely right Cam, it doesn't'' Lucy perked up a bit and smiled, glad to finally have people who understood her even a little bit and then she turned towards her class schedule “Now lets see what our first ever lesson is shall we” and with that they spent the rest of breakfast discussing their schedule before deciding to figure out how to best get to their first class.

Transfiguration with Professor McGonagalll.

McGonagall’s first class was amazing and all Cam could think about as her, Aurora and Lucy made their way back to the common room to relax and unwind a bit before their next class. Cam had even earned 5 points for slytherin for being the first student out of both Gryffindor and Slytherin to successfully turn a matchstick into a sewing needle. She was absolutely elated. Her fight with Remus this morning completely pushed itself to the back of her mind As she and the girls sat down to begin working on their assigned transfiguration essays. Cam found that she actually really enjoyed the subject and could not wait for her next class in an hour or so.

Potions with professor Slughorn.

Potions was on another level entirely above transfiguration Cam decided. It was to her, a completely thrilling and interesting class. Today they learned the basics of potion making and even got to brew one of their own sleeping draught potions. Cam, much like in her first class, absolutely flew through the instructions and alongside her classmates turned friends, Aurora and Lucy had a blast doing it. Unlike how she was in transfiguration Lucy was absolutely lost in potions but Aurora really seemed to know her stuff. By the time that lunch had rolled around and their first two classes were complete Cam was reminded of a sobering fact. Tonight was her first full moon in Hogwarts, she would have to spend the night with her brother, the brother who currently was side eyeing her from across the hall. ‘Well the wolves certainly won't be fond of each other tonight’ she thought to herself miserably while finishing up her favourite lunch meal. Soup.

She turned back to her friends to make them slightly aware of her upcoming absence. “So guys” she gulped out, dreading the upcoming words. “Tonight and at least once or twice a month every other month, i have to leave hogwarts in the evening and probably miss the next day of classes” She sighed out looking down before finishing what she wanted to say. “I have a sort of condition” she slowly whispered “and i need to have my treatment once or twice a month every month to make sure it doesn't flare up horribly” She finished with her best made excuse yet. Not wanting to look up at her new friends for fear of their reaction. Lucy spoke first.

“You know Cam” she started. “That's perfectly okay, we understand right aurora?” Cam looked up at them both. “Yep” Aurora stated, “If you need to get some treatments done then you get them girl” she smiled. “We're not gonna judge or leave you for it” Cam could cry tears of joy as a small smile spread across her face looking at her two friends. “Thank you guys truly” she continued smiling, “It means alot that you don't look at me differently for this” and that was the conversation done. No judgement, no drama, just two understanding kind girls. Cam was so glad that these two were her new friends she thought while finishing up her soup and heading back up to the common room with the girls before she had to go to the hospital wing.

But what Cam and her friends didn't notice as they were having their hushed conversation was the eyes and ears of none other than Regulus Black on them, looking and listening in. He hadn't meant to hear what she had been saying but he had also not been able to stop thinking about her since their first day when he cut her off after the sorting because she was just too enamouring and intriguing for him to be able to even register a sane conversation with her and had been at this present moment working up the courage to talk to her and apologise for being so snappy but instead he had listened in to a private conversation and let it begin to plague his mind. Treatments? Was she sick…? He became even more intrigued by this girl than he already was before. He needed to talk to her soon and figure her out or it was going to drive him crazy like his godforsaken cousin Bella.

Having no more classes for the day, Cam was just hanging out with Lucy in the common room, helping her write her potions essay before dinner. As she was explaining to her what she had learned today about sleeping draughts she felt a pair of eyes on the back of her head. At that moment she thought nothing of it and just shook off the feeling, deciding to finish helping her friend. “And then you have to add the flobberworm mucus in three separate sections stirring differently each time” she continued on noting how her friend was becoming increasingly more confused and zoned out of the conversation entirely. “Alright luc i think we should stop here for today so your brain doesn't explode” she laughed “We can finish tomorrow it's not due until next week anyways” and Lucy looked more relieved than ever throwing her hands up in celebration her mood improving largely, “Thank you so much Cam, as much as i appreciate you helping me i don't think my brain could handle anymore today” they both laughed at that clearing up their work and heading back up to their dorm to drop their stuff off and collect Aurora “Regulus Black was staring at you the whole time you know” Lucy casually dropped as they entered their dorm room. Cam froze in place.

“I knew someone was staring at me, I could feel it on the back of my head” She exclaimed collapsing forward on her bed feeling increasingly exhausted especially in the last hour or two thanks to the stupid full moon. “I wonder why he was staring at me, that's a bit creepy don't you think” she said turning around to face her friends “yeah it is a bit” Lucy agreed. “I know my brother James is friends with his brother Sirius though he's a gryffindor, the first ever gryffindor from the Black family actually. There was a huge scandal in the papers last year all about it” Aurora nodded agreeing with her. But at that moment Cam put two points together in her head. Sirius ? James? She jumped out of bed. “LUCY” she yelled out startling her friends. “OUR BROTHERS ARE BEST FRIENDS” she continued on causing Lucy to join in “WHAT” she screamed back “HOW DO YOU KNOW?” Cam collected herself slightly before continuing on “I sat with them on the train. There's four of them in the group.” Aurora looked between the two of them utterly confused. “James, Sirius, Remus and Peter” Lucy smiled at her. “This is so cool” she excitedly jumped about “Our brothers are best friends and when they finally decide to talk to us again we can so use this to our advantage” Cam grinned. “Definitely” and then it was time for dinner.

Dinner went on much the same as lunch had for Cam and the girls. Except this time she had not felt any eyes on her thankfully. She had steak and kidney pie and chocolate ice cream for dessert. Then as the feast was beginning to end it was time to do what she had dreaded the most today. Meet her brother and walk to the hospital wing. She said goodbye to her friends telling them she would likely see them at either lunch or dinner tomorrow and got up to start walking smiling at their well wishes and see you tommorows. ‘If only they knew the truth about what had happened to me and Remus all those years ago’ she thought bitterly ‘and what we really are’ she exited the hall just in time to see Remus pop around the corner to come and meet her. “Remus” she greeted flatly. “Camyron” he responded in an equally sullen tone, “come on then” he started. “We don't have all night” She silently followed him all the way to the hospital wing where they met Madam Pomfrey and professor Mcgonagall and she was filled in on the plan.
As they made their way through the whomping willow and into the shrieking shack, Cam was an overly nervous and twitchy wreck. Hating the full moon and not feeling great about where her and her brother were being placed, Remus turned to her and for the first time today had a genuine look on his face. He grabbed her hand in his reassuring brotherly way and then they were alone in the shack. He finally spoke a few words to her, being nicer than he had all day before they would begin to transform. “It's gonna be okay Cammi” he smiled, “Madam Pomfrey is great” and before she could even respond the pain began. She felt every single bone in her body break over and over and then her skin began to burn. Then come the claws and the hair and the first howl of the night. That dreaded godforsaken howl, and then she's no longer herself, no longer conscious, she's pushed far back into her own mind until she feels the equally agonising pain of being reformed again when day breaks.

When she finally regained consciousness and was blinded by the incoming light, the first thing she done was cry out in pain. Looking down she noticed that there were three new fresh marks lining her stomach, and then her brother was by her side. “Oh my sweet girl” he whispered to her, covering her up and pulling her close to him. “You scratched yourself changing back again” he mumbled, kissing the top of her head “I'm so so sorry” he all but sobbed not wanting to let go. “I'm sorry i was so horrible yesterday, i truly am Cam” he started “ I just didn't and still don't know how to react” he practically cried to her “Its okay Remus” she began “i understand you need time to adjust. But you can't act like that again about it okay” She said hugging her older brother relieved to have started making progress. She hated when they fought. “And tell that friend of yours James to stop giving Lucy a hard time about it too or ill kick his ass” she added, getting a small chuckle out of Remus before the door to the shack opened and Madam Pomfrey entered

“Oh sweet girl” she said looking down at Cam with genuine sadness in her eyes, catching her a little off guard. “Let's get you both to the hospital wing for some chocolate and some sleep yeah, she smiled, giving Remus a once over look and asking him if he would help her with his sister. He in true Remus fashion obviously agreed. “I'll give you both something for the pain and a sleeping draught when we get there” she smiled, guiding us to the hospital wing. Cam decided at that moment that madam pomfrey was a good person and let herself be led to a bed. “I love you Cam” Remus whispered over to her a little while later as she was beginning to drift off to sleep, welcoming the feeling of the pain potion and letting sleep finally take over. That was until she dreamed of him.

Chapter Text

Every so often she has the same dream. Or rather night terror as Remus would put it everytime, because well, it had actually happened to them a few years ago, I suppose you could call it a living nightmare. It always starts out the same, She wakes up to blood curdling screams and in a moment of terror shakes Remus awake, shaking and crumbling onto the boy's bed. On this night she was five and her brother was six and it goes on like this. Her brother shoots up out of bed after hearing all the commotion and screams outside and grabs her. As gently as possible he shields her in his arms and blocks her ears from the on going screams and shouts and then, there's pure silence, you could hear a pin drop if one had fallen. After a few more silent moments, he pulls his hands away, tense, face as pale as winter and their bedroom door slowly creaked open. She begins to silently pray to whatever gods and goddesses reside above that this is her mum or her dad coming in to comfort them and tell them that it's all going to be okay but, her prayers are immediately shattered, because, as she slowly looks up, her world is completely diminished when, instead of it being her mum's warm, comfortable eyes or dads reassuring gaze she's met with the sight of a terrifying human being, no. He could only be described as a monster.

He was utterly grim from head to toe. He had a pointed face and two huge black raging eyes that hungrily eyed her and her brother, and oh gods his hair. Lots of raggedy matted brown and grey hair covering the side of his face and his hands and even some of his neck. He was sickening to look at and he terrified her in every way, Remus (bless his protective heart) in that moment was definitely as equally terrified as Cam was, but he hid it so well because he knew he had to, he had to protect her. They sat there frozen for what felt like hours and Remus was the first person in the room to speak up. “Who are you?” he questioned the monster with more fear than determination in his voice “what do you want with us, please leave us alone” his voice wobbled out, and the man laughed he had the audacity to laugh at two terrified children. That's what scared her even more. His chilling laugh still haunts her to this day, almost 6 years later. “I'm here to collect you two of course” he smiles, sending a complete chill down Cam's spine. “What do you mean you're here for us? '' Remus breathes out, slowly pulling her further behind him. “We have nothing for you please just leave us be. We've done nothing wrong” and the man just smiled again, inching closer towards them.

“Why Remus my dear boy, that's exactly why I'm here for you and little Camyron.” Remus’ grip on her tightiend momentarily fears flashing all over his face. He looked at her as he continued on “You two will be my prodigies one day, my prize pups, and you're going to make me so proud I'm sure of it.” Cam felt Remus start to shake at that as the man continued towards them. By this point he had already pulled her fully behind him and she gripped his arm in his best efforts to protect her. But too soon, he was pulled away from her, the monster had grabbed his arm and tugged him away. She cried out for her brother while sobbing and wished that her mum was here with her. This monster took her brother from her and she was so scared. She wanted it all to stop, she wanted him to go away, but more than anything she wanted Remmi back. Remus was thrashing harshly in his grip and crying and doing everything he could to try and break free from his grasp. So Camyron in her 5 year old mind set did the only thing she could think of to try and block out the situation. She dived under and covered herself with the covers, blocking her ears and humming a lullaby tears streaking her little, but even as she was rocking back and forth, she could still hear the exact moment he screamed.

The scream that came from receiving the bite. The blood curdling pained scream of a little boy who was slowly having his life altered, a little six year old being infected with what they would learn is lycanthropy and Cam knew, she knew in her heart that she was next. She had thought he was dead, her big brother, her rock and best friend. He was gone in her mind, he had to be. So she let him take her, she let herself be pulled out from the covers and dragged towards him, salted tears flowing, and whole body trembling as she was put next to her brother. She couldn't even open her eyes to look at him, so she kept them shut tight to prepare herself for what was to come and she was ready to let it happen. But then, instead of killing her he spoke, those few words he spoke would keep her and her brother up with sleepless nights for years to come. “I will return for you two one day little one” he drew out slowly, brushing her blonde curls away from her face and tucking them behind her ears. She was frozen in place, paralysed with fear and confused.

“It's time for your gift now, Camyron.” He smiled, continuing to brush the curls out of her face and soothe her cheek with his thumb. “This is a very special gift, little one. It means I'm your Alpha now, you are part of my pack, you and Remus are my pup’s. And I always return for my pups” she could feel his grin from here and was terrified of what was about to happen to her. She didn't know what he was going to do to her and as she lay there begging and pleading with the gods to take her to her brother, she felt it, the searing hot pain of the bite. The bite that would completely change the rest of her life, and as she screams out jolting in pain, everything goes dark.

Cam woke up in a cold sweat and shot up out of bed, shaking and grabbing at her thigh. She felt a hot, flush of pain where the scars he had left her with were and she sighed standing up and remembering that night, silently crying, before she remembered where she was. She looked over to Remus and thought about waking him up. She thought about telling him that it had happened again, and seeking the comfort he usually brought to her. But conflicted, she decided against it. She was still mad at him after all so instead, she silently left the hospital wing, tears still flowing and body still trembling beelining for the dungeons. Once she was in the safety of her dorm room she would be able to cry her heart out, so she ran.

Finally reaching the common room and nearly forgetting to shout out the password, she stumbled in. Not looking where she was running in the middle of her cry fest while attempting to reach her room had led her into bumping head first into none other than, the lovely ray of sunshine she had met on her very first day , Regulus Black. “Watchou–” Regulus had begun to start before he saw the absolute state she was in, “woah woah” he began standing up and giving her a once over. “Are you okay Cam?” he questions, not wanting to leave his housemate in such a way. “Should we go to the hospital win…” she immediately cut off with a loud sharp “NO” before collecting herself slightly and continuing “ no, no hospital wing please” she softly breathed out, her bright blue eyes pleading, almost scared and Reg knew that look of terror and pleading almost too well, he had worn it himself only a few hours prior, he guessed it could be one of a few things. “Okay no hospital wing, '' he smiled, offering a hand to help her up and leading her to the chairs near the fireplace. “Did something happen” he asked sternly, hoping this wasnt another house targeting a first year slytherin again. “Do we need to get Slughorn, have you been attacked, or hexed or” Cam cut him off with a whisper. “ No no, I'm okay I promise, I'm sorry for disturbing you. I'll just be on my way” She started to stand up but Regulus grabbed her wrist and looked at her with worry in his eyes.

“No you don't have to go, you can talk to me” He spoke, “i know I was quite nasty to you in the great hall on our first day but, i'm not about to leave someone who clearly isn't okay alone” He looked determined and Cam, selfishly wanting to know more about the mystery that is Regulus black sat back down and started to speak. “I really don't want to talk too much about it, I'm sorry” She said and Regulus nodded, giving her more room in case she wanted to speak.”I just had a nightmare, and i know it's stupid to cry but, i was just so overwhelmed and my brother was in the room and i just couldn't. I can right now” and then in barely a whisper she blurts out, “I can't handle the fact my brother pretty much hates me because I'm in Slytherin” and the tears began rolling slowly down her cheeks again, having spoken that out-loud for the first time. Regulus sighed lightly knowing how she felt.

“You know” he drawled “My brother hates me because I'm in Slytherin too, so as much as I give off the impression of a stone brick, I do understand how you feel.” He offered her a small lopsided grin and Cam couldn't help but smile back. She laughed lightly, earning a puzzled look from Regulus and continued on again. “ oh my gosh, when i first saw you in the great hall and you cut me off when i tried to talk to you, i did think of a stone brick” and then they both burst out laughing before Cam spoke again, “but um, all that aside thank you for that Regulus, i don't think i could handle being alone right now and you even sitting here is more than i could ever ask for and i am sorry for coming in here all messed up like that” She looked down embarrassed but Regulus just sighed “Look Cam” he began “as much of a stone brick as i am sometimes, i'm not heartless, i wouldn't just leave you like that. Don't even worry about it” He smiled at her and she couldn't help but smile back at him.

“Plus, honestly i have been working up the courage to come and apologise to you about you receiving the back end of my frustration on our first interaction” It was his turn this time to look down at the floor, feeling ashamed. “Je te croyais gentil, mais ça m’a fait peur.” he added out loud in french and, Cam was so baffled that he could speak french, that she didn't even think to ask about what he said. “Okay, so how about this?” She smiled after a few moments of thinking, wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt and also because she liked his comforting vibe. “Why don't we start over, pretend we've never even spoken” He looked up at her and considered this for a moment before Cam began speaking again "ill go first" she grinned, “Hi my name is Camyron Lupin, but you can call me Cam” She offered her hand to him to shake and he gained a small smile on his face, shaking her hand. “Regulus Black” he smiled “You can call me Reg '' Camyron made an ‘O’ shape with her face, nightmare completely forgotten and jumped up out of her seat. “That's why you look familiar” She excitedly started. “Our asshole brothers that hate us are friends” and then Reg completely dumbfounded joined her where she was and started “ah yes of course they’re both dumb-ass Griffins” they laughed both falling back into their chairs, the beginnings of what might be a great friendship blossoming as they stay all morning, talking and getting to know each other before heading to lunch and getting to witness, the gobsmacked faces of Remus and Sirius as they seen the pair talking and laughing all the way to the slytherin table.

The pair laugh and high-five at the reaction of their brothers, Reg slipping cam two galleons because she was right about what their expression would and then she introduced him to her friends and he introduced the girls to his, who all warmed up to each other immediately. What came after was the group planning on how to best piss off their gryffindor brothers ( james included) and laughing the whole time, wiping her exhausted by the end, so she excused her self, promising them that last night went well and adding that she would explain to regulus and the others later before heading back down to the slytherin common room, wanting to try and sleep off the rest of last nights full moon and avoid her brother as much as possible. As she slept that afternoon, she was not met with dreams of that night, but rather had dreams filled with her new friends and all the adventures they may embark on.
