Chapter Text
Kai was a man of mixed feelings, constantly not knowing what he felt and feeling everything all at once. It made him very passionate while a bit unstable, he knows this so he tries to keep all his emotions under lock and key, and that's exactly why as he entered the dingey metal halls of Morro's compound he kept a stone cold face.
Kai ignored the other goons around him in the halls as he walked with purpose to Morro's office, guarded by two men who let Kai pass as soon as he got to the door. Everyone in the compound knew him and Morro had a special relationship. Kai stepped into the cold room closing the door behind him while Morro stood by his desk, his back turned.
" take a seat Kai." Morro hummed and Kai sat down on the chair opposite of Morro, the desk was the only thing between them. Morro turned around as sat down keeping constant eye contact, Kai fought the urge to look away from those menacing green eyes.
" I have a job for you , you are the only one I can count on this for " Morro said a fake and calculated smile on his face. Smiles always looked wrong - twisted on Morro, they always made Kai's stomach churn.
In response Kai nodded not being permitted to speak, " the group ran by Wu Garmadon has been quite the bother to my work- I want you to infiltrate them," Morro hummed and Kai nodded, " even someone as dim as you could do this , just get the ninja to trust you then dismantle them from the inside out." Morro sneered standing up.
Kai followed the other man with his eyes as Morro went over to a cabinet, he soon returned back with a thick folder. letting it slam on the table right in front of Kai making him flinch in the smallest way. Morro still caught onto it and smirked wickedly as he roughly grabbed Kai's face making him look into Morro's threatening sneer.
" just be the pathetic lost puppy you are, I'm sure you can do that at least." Morro snarled out. A flame burned in Kai's chest and throat as he gritted his teeth not staying anything knowing he shouldn't talk. Morro leaned in closer making Kai want to pull back but he held still.
" be good for me, wouldn't want to bring out Red ." Morro whispered nodding his head at Kai, Morro took joy in the way Kai's eyes lit with suppressed anger and defeat.
" yes sir." Kai replied stiffly ,with that Kai was dismissed and he left as fast as he could manage taking the file with him as he practically jogged to get out of the compound.
Kai kept the thick file tucked firmly under his arm as he walked blindly down the street. His mind drifting from his rage, how dare Morro treat him that way? Why was he allowing himself to be pushed around? Maybe he deserved it , no he definitely deserves all of it, if he wasn't so stupid-.
He ran right into someone knocking him back on his butt.
" oh my gosh- I didn't see you there are you okay?". Kai didn't look up yet to see who the voice was he grabbed the folder.
" I'm okay- it's my fault I wasn't paying attention to where I was going" Kai said finally looking up as he stood, and boy did he have to look up. Kai was tall for his age but this man had maybe one or two feet on him. He was big too, muscular and chubby, his dark skin tone looking heavenly in the late night moon light.
And his eyes,
oh.
His eyes, they were warm, deep brown with a beautiful calming gaze.
Kai's face erupted into a blush.
"-ey, are you sure your okay?" The man asked making Kai jump a little.
" what?" Kai hummed making the other chuckle.
" you spaced out there did you hit your head?" The other man asked softly.
" oh no- I'm fine , I'm Kai by the way" Kai said smiling putting on the charm. Look he was a mess but that didn't mean he couldn't flirt with the unfairly hot man before him. The other man smirked interested and pulled one of his hands from his pockets holding it out to shake.
" I'm Cole, what are you doing out so late hot shot?" Cole flirted back and Kai blushed softly as he rubbed the back of his neck.
" just got off work , how about you" Kai said smiling softly.
" late night snack run- you can tag along with me if you have the time" Cole said.
Kai thought about it - he did have some left over funds for himself and one treat couldn't hurt, after all he delt with Morro...
" yeah okay I'll go with ." Kai hummed, and the two began to walk together to the near by convenance store. Making small talk as they went , Kai found out that Cole's favorite color is black and that the bigger male had a sweet tooth.
" I like more spicy food over sugary stuff " Kai said and Cole nodded.
" Spicy food is good to - I really like spicy ramen." Cole replied making Kai smile.
"yeah me to , its my go to fast dinner" Kai chuckled, missing the soft blush on his new buddies face.
Soon they arrived at the store, Kai's happiness in this moment was a hard turn from the feeling of puke worthy dread had earlier. Nevertheless right now he felt elated , like being next to Cole was charging some kind of battery for him and Kai couldn't get enough.
Kai picked out some spicy chocolate while Cole grabbed gummy bears and some chips. Both of them walked up to the register together, payed and headed out together. They even walked together until Kai arrived at his home, it was apparently very close to Cole's house only two houses down.
" it was nice meeting you Kai, let's do this again sometime." Cole hummed and Kai nodded with a soft smile.
" yeah definitely, thank you for hanging out with me Cole , good night." Kai hummed and Cole smiled.
" good night hot shot." Cole replied back before Kai headed into his house.

Kai placed the file and the treat on the kitchenette counter before heading back to his bedroom and getting dressed in more comfortable clothes. Then heading back to the counter flipping open the file.
The first thing he saw made his stomach drop.
" Of fuckin course" Kai groaned. There on the very first page was a profile of the black ninja and a cristal clear photo of Cole.
" I am so hopelessly fucked " Kai groaned rubbing his face.
