Work Text:
Klaus had arrived at the house intent on killing Sandra for daring to try and kill him. While simultaneously dreading the bragging rights this will give Kol for managing to do something right for once. He kicks the door open, hard enough for it to pop off several of its hinges. But instead of Sandra, he finds someone else kneeling on the floor. He can smell blood in the room, and her white dress is stained with it. Her blood smells heavenly. He wonders if it tastes heavenly too. She lifts her head up to reveal to him a pair of bright blue eyes that remind him of the ocean. He's seen many beautiful women in his days but she has to be the most beautiful.
"Water." She rasps, reaching out to him with a blood-stained hand. Her skin is pale, and her voice is dry. The room still stinks of Sandra but it's faint that she must have already left. He can catch up with her or he can help the woman kneeling in front of him. "Please?"
For some reason he doesn't know, he drops his fangs, sinking them into his wrist. He offers it to her but she turns her head away, allowing him to see the cut on the side of her neck. "I don't need your blood. What I need is water. There's a glass on the table."
She points to a glass of water on the table. He grabs it off the table, and she takes it out of his hands, pouring it over her head. Her skin regains its color, and the cut on her neck heals. "Thank you."
She comes closer to him, reaching for both of his hands. He looks down at her, cocking his head to the side, schooling his expression into a neutral one. "I would like to repay you. I want to get my revenge against Sandra. But if what happened here proves anything, I'm not strong enough on my own. But together, we can beat her."
He finds himself actually considering her offer. But he's more than capable of defeating Sandra on his own. And she's just admitted that she isn't strong enough. So what use is she to him? Actually, he can think of a few ways she's of use to him. Ways that involve her in his bed, begging for an encore. "No. I don't even know if you're strong enough. And I don't wish to-"
She gets to her feet, and his legs suddenly go numb, causing him to drop to the floor. He growls, his eyes flashing yellow. She scowls, and he finds her just as ravishing. "Sandra is - or was I guess I should say - my best friend. I'm sure someone of your caliber has heard of the criminal duo of mermaids that have been running amok the last few years. One, Sandra figured out how to use her siren song not just to control people but for a variety of effects, including to kill people. The other, me, figured out how to use their powers to manipulate the blood in any living person's body. Like what I'm doing to you now."
"That still doesn't prove your use to me." She smirks at him, her eyes shining. The numbness travels up his body until he's gasping for air.
"Does that?"
"No." He wheezes before she scowls again, using her powers to snap his neck.
Klaus mostly forgets the mermaid he'd saved after that. Even if he does sometimes dream of her blue eyes, and has painted far too many pictures of her as an angel that he has hidden away in the room that his siblings know not to go into unless they wish to be bitten or daggered. And he doesn't have time to think about her now as Sandra has decided to attack him. Which wouldn't be as big of a problem if not for the fact that she came with a group of hunters ready to fight for her. Hunters that were apparently jumping at the opportunity to see what works on a hybrid and what doesn't.
Which is how he finds himself chained up by his wrists, splinters of wood stuck in various places. Sandra is standing before him, with a smug grin that he can't wait to see get smacked off her face. "I told you. I don't lose."
"What about your little blonde friend? You failed to kill her." Sandra rolls her eyes with a growl.
"Yes. And how did you know about that?" He doesn't answer the question. If he doesn't get himself free, his siblings will save him. "You were the one that saved her, didn't you? Do you even know the reason I tried to kill her?"
"No."
"Her locket." Sandra whispers, gesturing to her own pink heart locket. He vaguely remembers seeing her friend wearing a matching silver one. "While my own is nothing but a fake created by a dearly departed witch friend of mine, hers is a symbol of power. Her father was like merpeople royalty, the closest we had to a king. Which I guess makes her like a princess. After he died, she was supposed to take her place on the throne but instead she ran away with me. Her locket is incredibly valuable, and grants untold power. A lot of people would pay a lot of money for that locket. But Caroline wouldn't give it up so I had no choice but to kill her. Then someone showed up at the house. I now know that someone was you."
"Enough talking! Let's pick up where we left off." One of the hunters raises a gun, but before he can fire, his back bends with an audible snap. He cries out in pain, the gun dropping from his hand. The other hunters drop to the floor, their bodies bending with audible snaps. Sandra growls.
"Caroline. Show yourself!" Sandra is thrown into the wall, and Caroline appears before him. Wearing white. Looking as angelic as she did the last time they met. She smiles at him. She raises her hands, and several cuts appear on his skin, splinters flying out through them. A scream erupts from him before the splinters drop to the floor. He looks to see that Sandra has left.
Caroline walks over to him, freeing him from his chains, allowing his arms to drop to his sides. She kneels in front of him so they're level. She moves her hair to one side, stretching her neck. He hesitates before lunging forward, sinking his fangs into her neck, and grabbing her waist. She places her hands on his shoulders. He greedily gulps down her lovely tasting blood. And convinces himself that her moans are all in his head.
He forces himself to stop, not wanting to bleed her dry. He can figure out the reason later. "Have I proved that I'm of use to you?"
"You've certainly shown promise." He smirks, and she simply smirks back.
"What did she tell you about me?"
"Just that your name is Caroline. And that you're basically merpeople royalty. And that locket is incredibly powerful. Allegedly."
"Allegedly. I honestly don't know. I haven't ever really needed a boost. I'm powerful with or without it. So are you finally ready to take me up on my offer? Fair warning, I don't take no for an answer."
"And yet you waited months before showing yourself to me."
"I was simply waiting for the right moment. This seemed like the right moment." He shakes his head with a laugh.
"You've got a deal."
