Work Text:

One day, I’m gonna set for you.”

The words were ringing through Shouyou’s head after the match with Inarizaki, kept ringing as he walked away from the court, his back to Atsumu and Kageyama by his side. Ringing as they did their cool down stretches and ringing still as they were dismissed for a while before they were to head back to their inn for the night in preparation for their matches tomorrow. Day Three Hell they called it.

Shouyou was accompanied by Yachi as they walked around the stadium, checking out various stalls and peering in at some matches. Usually Kageyama would be with them, but he went to speak with some other players.

“Yachi-san, don’t you want to buy a shirt?” Shouyou asked, turning to the shorter blonde girl by his side. “I bought the same one Bokuto-san has!”

“I saw! It looked really cool!” She nodded, eyes wide and sparkling. “I don’t really see anything my style, maybe if they had a manager shirt I would get it.”

“Shouyou-kun!” Someone called from behind them, and the pair turned around only to be met with Miya Atsumu, his brother not far behind him.

“Is that…” Yachi began, her voice shaking as she hid behind Shouyou slightly.

“Yeah…” He nodded, a little confused as Atsumu came to a stop before him. “Miya-san?”

“Atsumu.” Atsumu corrected. “There’s two of us, it’ll get too confusing. I’m Atsumu, that’s Osamu.” He pointed behind him at an approaching Osamu, who held his hand up to wave.

“Is there something you needed, Atsumu-san?” Shouyou asked, cocking his head to the side.

“Yes!” Atsumu fumbled in his jacket pockets and produced his phone. “I wanted to ask for your number.”

Me?” Shouyou’s eyes widened, and his jaw went slightly slack. “Not… not Kageyama?”

“I already have Tobio-kun’s number but that’s besides the point. I want to stay in touch with you.” Atsumu waved him off.

“Really?” The ginger’s eyes were practically sparkling. “Of course!” Atsumu was practically vibrating as he handed his phone over to Shouyou to put his number into it. “Text me so I get yours! I don’t have my phone, it’s with Captain I think. My whole bag is.”

“What if you needed to contact him?” Osamu asked, finally reaching them.

“Oh, Yachi-san has her phone. She’s our manager, so she can have her phone with her. And… she’s more responsible than I am.” Shouyou laughed nervously.

“I thought your manager was the older third year?” Osamu questioned as Atsumu took his phone back with a gleeful smile and tucked it in his pocket.

“Oh! Shimizu-senpai! She’s been the manager since her first year, but Yachi-san is taking over when she graduates. She wasn’t on the bench though because only one manager is allowed.” Shouyou explained.

“I was standing under the scoreboard.” Yachi spoke up. “It was… kind of scary.”

“Oh.” Osamu winced. “Sorry, I hit the ball there that one time, that must have been awful.”

“No, no! It’s okay! Things happen!” Yachi’s eyes widened and she shook her head, waving it off.

“Staying here much longer?” Atsumu asked.

“Just for a bit. Then we have to head back and get some rest before tomorrow’s matches.” Shouyou grinned, eyes gleaming in excitement at the reminder of tomorrow’s match with Nekoma.

“Oh, you’re playing Nekoma right? Don’t know much about them.” Osamu mused.

“Nekoma is our rival school. Grandpa Ukai and their coach Nekomata used to be rivals so our schools always play each other in practice matches, but we’ve always wanted to play an official match and haven’t gotten the chance yet. We train with them a ton.” Shouyou explained. “We’ve been waiting for this match for a long time.”

“You train with them?” Atsumu’s eyes widened. “Aren’t they in Tokyo? And you’re in… Miyagi?”

“We had training camps this summer. We trained with the entire Fukurodani group!”

“Fukurodani, huh?” Osamu hummed. “You’re acquainted with Bokuto, then?”

“Bokuto-san is great! He’s taught me a lot!” Shouyou nodded happily.

“He calls Hinata his disciple.” Yachi chimed in, giggling lightly.

“Big praise from a top five ace.” Atsumu looked impressed. “Anyways, we won’t keep you. I’ll text you later!”

“Bye Atsumu-san, Osamu-san!”

They waved as the pair of them disappeared through one of the doors leading back to the main courts and then Yachi squealed, turning to him with wide eyes.

“What?” He looked alarmed.

“He likes you!”

“Who?”

“Atsumu-san! He asked for your number! He likes you, Hinata!”

“You think so?” Shouyou’s eyes grew a little wider.

“I know so!”

They continued to stay in touch after Nationals and even went to see each other in person a few times. Atsumu had never made the journey to Miyagi because Shouyou always stopped by Hyogo whenever he was visiting Kenma in Tokyo considering it was on the way. He was always invited to spend the night at the Miya household, and he even visited Inarizaki a few times, greeting Atsumu’s teammates who seemed to like him more than Atsumu.

This whole time, they had been dancing around what their relationship was really. They never kissed but they were more affectionate with each other than with their other friends; hugging a lot and sleeping in the same bed, paired with occasional forehead and cheek kisses and even holding hands whenever they went out. Neither of them had asked the question yet.

It just so happened to happen during the following Spring Tournament. They hadn’t been able to go back to nationals during the Interhigh, being beaten out in the finals by Date Tech. During the Spring Tournament, they made it to Nationals, facing Inarizaki in a long-awaited rematch, in which Inarizaki took the win.

Shouyou found Atsumu after Inarizaki was knocked out in the semi-finals. “Hi.” He said softly, getting Atsumu’s attention. The older turned around, his downturned lips curving up slightly at the sight of the second year.

“Shou.”

“I need to tell you something.” Shouyou said, shoving his hands in his jacket pockets. “Can we –“ He gestured to the doors leading out of the stadium.

“’Samu, I’ll be back.” Atsumu said to his brother.

“Take your time.” Osamu waved him off. “Hey Shouyou-kun!”

“Osamu-san, hi.” Shouyou smiled, waiting for Atsumu to pull his jacket on before leading him outside into the cold air.

“What’s up? You look a little nervous. Nothing bad I hope?”

“Depends how you take it. Kageyama wasn’t too happy when I brought it up, but he understands why.” Shouyou breathed shakily, taking his hands out of his pockets and running them through his hair.

“Woah, Shou, easy.” Atsumu frowned, taking Shouyou’s hands in his own and bringing them down. “It’s okay, you don’t have to rush or anything. Take your time, I’m here.”

“I… I was thinking about what I want to do after high school.” Shouyou began. “You’re… you’re going into the V. League, right?”

“Yeah, MSBY Black Jackals.” Atsumu nodded.

“Yeah… I – so… Kageyama’s plan is to go right into playing pro as well but… I wanted to do something else. I asked coach to help me, and we figured something out with the help of Washijo-sensei, Shiratorizawa’s coach.”

“Okay…”

“I want to train in beach volleyball.” Shouyou said, determined.

“Why?”

“Because… because in beach there’s only two people on one side of the court so you have to be good at everything: receiving, blocking, spiking and setting. The sand is unstable, so you have to get better at dealing with that and factors like the weather –“

“It’s a learning experience, okay. Are you changing to beach permanently?” Atsumu asked, pretending his heart wasn’t beating faster in fear at the prospect of never being able to play with or against Shouyou ever again.

“No, no. I just want to train beach. I’m not switching.”

“Okay… so how far is it from Osaka? That’s where the Jackals are based.”

“Atsumu… it’s… it’s not in Japan.” Shouyou whispered and Atsumu froze.

“Not… not in Japan?”

“Washijo-sensei told me about a coach in Rio, Brazil.” Shouyou explained. “I – I won’t be going directly after graduation, Washijo-sensei had conditions. He said I could go after a year and then I’d get two years there before I had to come back.”

“You’re… you’re leaving…” Atsumu whispered, his brain still catching up.

“Only for a little while.” Shouyou whispered back, a hesitant expression on his face, something Atsumu had never seen on his face.

“I – this is a lot to process but I’m happy for you, Shou. I really am.” Atsumu sighed. “But I was kind of psyching myself up this entire tournament to ask you out and now you’re going away to Brazil of all places.”

“Ask me out?” Shouyou’s eyes widened. “Were you really?”

“Shouyou, I’ve been into you for ages.”

“Yachi-san said you liked me, but I didn’t really know if I should have believed her or not.” Shouyou smiled. “She said it when you asked for my number a year ago.”

“She was right.” Atsumu huffed out a laugh.

“You can still… you know… ask me out.” Shouyou said gently. “I’m not going away right away, and… I wouldn’t mind trying to do long distance if it was with you.”

“You’re being totally serious right now?” Atsumu’s eyes widened, and he put both of his hands on Shouyou’s shoulders. “You’re not messing around?”

“I’d never mess around about something like this.” Shouyou murmured. “Of course I’m being serious.”

“Hinata Shouyou, would you do me the honour of going out with me? Being my boyfriend?” Atsumu asked.

“Of course I will.” Shouyou beamed, laughing as Atsumu dragged him in for a kiss and then hugged him tight, spinning them around. “I’m gonna be sick all over you if you keep doing that.”

“Ew! Don’t do that!”

“Shou!” Atsumu crowed when Shouyou picked up the phone.

“It’s not Hinata.” There was a deadpan voice that Atsumu vaguely recognised as Tsukishima. “You’ve been incessantly calling his phone and it’s disturbing practice.”

“Practice on a weekend?” Atsumu yelped.

“Do you know Hinata?” Tsukishima sounded incredulous. “Anyways, he’s not here. We just wrapped up, so he went to get changed but his phone kept ringing.”

“Ah – sorry.” Atsumu laughed nervously.

“Tsukki! Are you – is that Shouyou’s phone?” Another voice filtered through.

“Shut up, Yamaguchi.”

“Why do you have his phone?” Oh, now Atsumu recognised Kageyama’s voice.

“It kept ringing. Turns out it was his boyfriend on the other end.”

“Can I not talk to Shouyou?” Atsumu asked helplessly.

“He’s not out yet.” Tsukishima replied.

“Atsumu-san is on the other end?” Kageyama questioned. “Give, I want to ask some questions.”

“Why exactly do you have my phone, Tsukishima?” Shouyou’s voice finally appeared on the other end.

“Oh, it kept ringing, so I just picked up.” Tsukishima replied and there were some shuffling sounds as the phone was passed around.

“Don’t throw it, asshole!” Shouyou yelped. “What if you broke it?”

“You’re the ace, you can catch a phone.” Tsukishima deadpanned. “I’m leaving.”

“Bye!” Yamaguchi’s voice called.

“I… am so sorry.” Shouyou breathed into the phone. “Did not mean to leave my phone out in the open where any one of my noisy teammates can pick up the call!”

“It’s okay.” Atsumu laughed. “Hi.”

“Hi.”

The ringing of a phone sounded as Atsumu was washing the dishes in his shared flat with Sakusa and Bokuto and he glared at it with soap soaked hands, unable to answer. “Can someone check who’s calling me please?” He asked his two flatmates who were sat at the dining table, digging into a cake that was left over from Bokuto’s birthday.

“It says Shou.” Sakusa replied, shoving a forkful of cake in his mouth.

“Can you pick up and put it on speaker, it’s important I think.” Atsumu said over his shoulder as he washed off the last dish and grabbed a towel to dry his hands.

“You got it!” Bokuto picked up and put the phone on speaker.

“WE WON!” Shouyou shouted as soon as the call was accepted. “WE DID IT! WE’RE GOING TO NATIONALS!”

“I’m so proud of you!” Atsumu beamed, sitting down at the table with his own fork. “You’re on speaker by the way, Bokkun and Omi-kun are here.”

“Hinata!” Bokuto cheered.

“Hey.” Sakusa nodded at the phone.

“Bokuto-san! Hi! Sakusa-san, hi!”

“So, Nationals?” Atsumu asked.

“Yeah! We beat Shiratorizawa in the finals so we’re going to Nationals! I don’t know what I would have done if we didn’t make it. Goshiki looked heartbroken though, it’s his last year too.” Shouyou sounded like he was pouting.

“Don’t feel bad, if he won then you would have lost.” Atsumu said in a matter of fact tone. “How’s the rest of your team feeling?”

“Yamaguchi and I are by far the most emotional. And Yachi-san. The second years and first years are happy, but it means more to us because it’s our last year. Tsukishima and Kageyama are… well… you know how they are.” Shouyou sighed. “Emotionless bastards.”

“How was the crowd this time?”

“Saeko-nee-san brought the taiko drums like she always does! She’s great, I’m so happy she keeps coming even after Tanaka-senpai graduated.”

“She is very cool.” Atsumu nodded. “I’ll see you at Nationals, okay? I’ll drag these two with me too.”

“Awesome! See you then?”

“Yeah. I’ll call you later.”

“Okay! Bye!”

They lost in the semi-finals. Against Itachiyama. They lost and it was their final year. Shouyou couldn’t hold back the tears as they bowed to their opponents and thanked the crowd for their support. Yachi wrapped him in a hug as soon as he stepped off the court, Yamaguchi crowding his other side. A few moments later, Yamaguchi pulled away and wiped the tears from his face, ordering the team to do their cooldown stretches.

“Hey, uh… do you mind if I go find Atsumu?” Shouyou asked Yamaguchi when they were done and changed out of their sweaty uniforms. “He’s around here somewhere.”

“Go ahead.” Yamaguchi nodded. “Keep your phone on you, okay? I’ll call you if we’re heading out.”

“Yeah, okay. See you.”

Shouyou tucked his phone into his back pocket and slung a jacket over his short sleeved shirt, ruffling his hair. It was still slightly wet from the sweat but nothing too excessive. He could shower when they were back at the inn. Now, he had to find Atsumu. His phone buzzed.

atsumu :D

where are you?

looking for you

very helpful thank you

where in the stadium?

i see osamu

i’ll come to you then

Shouyou tucked the phone away once more and approached the little Onigiri Miya stand Osamu had in the stadium. It wasn’t anything big yet, he was still in the beginning of starting the business. “Osamu, hey!”

“Shouyou!” Osamu looked up, beaming at the younger. “No Atsumu with you?”

“He said he’d come here.” Shouyou explained. “How’s business?”

“Not bad, honestly. Here, try this. New recipe.” Osamu handed him an onigiri and Shouyou bit into it, closing his eyes in bliss. “Good?”

“Amazing!” Shouyou devoured it, eyes wide. “They’ll be bestsellers!”

“You say that about all of them.” Osamu chuckled.

“Well… they’re all really good.” Shouyou laughed.

“That was a good match by the way.”

“Oh, thank you.” Shouyou nodded. “Could have been better if we won.” He shrugged.

“You never stop aiming higher, do you?” Atsumu said from behind him, hugging him and leaning his head atop Shouyou’s.

“You scared me!” Shouyou placed a hand on his heart. “And yeah, of course I’m aiming higher. How will I get better if I’m satisfied with losing?”

“Fair enough. ‘Samu show you the new flavour?”

“Yes! It was so good!” Shouyou nodded, leaning back against Atsumu.

“Good enough to leave Atsumu for the better twin?” Osamu teased.

“Not that good, Osamu.” Shouyou snickered. “Bokuto-san and Sakusa-san not with you?”

“They were right behind me. Shall we go look for them?”

“Yeah.”

It’s only a year later that Atsumu managed to get the time to come and visit Shouyou in Brazil. He told his boyfriend and once Shouyou got time away from work, he booked the tickets with a bright grin on his face. They would be able to finally see each other after a year!

Atsumu was a jittery mess on their last day of practice, and he went straight from the gym to his flat for his suitcase then booked it to the airport for his flight. After a message to Shouyou once he boarded, he knocked out for the rest of the flight and was woken up by the flight attendant halfway through to eat something before he went back to sleep.

He was determined to sleep now so he wasn’t too tired when he saw Shouyou, so he could spend time with him without being exhausted. When the plane landed, Atsumu stretched his arms above his head, fishing his phone out of his pocket and turning it off airplane mode when the plane stopped.

that’s. a good point

oh shit we’re getting off the plane SEE U SOON

Getting off the plane, walking through the airport and customs and then grabbing his luggage felt like unconscious movements, like he was doing everything without even comprehending it because the only thing his mind was zeroed in on was Shouyou.

He walked towards arrivals, his duffel bag slung over one shoulder and his backpack over the other, his eyes looking in every direction for a head of bright orange hair as he stepped past the doors leading to the arrivals area.

“Atsumu!” He heard and the second he turned, he was met with Shouyou waving over the crowd, his hair covered with a cap and he ran. He managed to maneuver through the crowd, pushing as gently as he could and muscling through them until he was standing right in front of Shouyou.

His bags dropped onto the floor and he lunged forward, catching the younger in a tight hug. Shouyou laughed, hugging back just as tight, his head tucked in the crook of Atsumu’s shoulder and his arms tight around his middle. “Shou.”

“Hi.” Shouyou breathed, pulling away slightly to press a kiss to Atsumu’s lips. Atsumu took the time to appreciate how much Shouyou had changed in the past year; he was way more tanned, and his orange hair slightly faded from what he could see and boy had he filled out, arms well-muscled and very obvious in the sleeveless shirt he was wearing. He was also wearing shorts, meaning Atsumu could appreciate his legs.

“You look great.” Atsumu whispered. “Brazil’s done you good.”

“Thank you, thank you.” Shouyou laughed. “Jackals have done you even more good. Anyways, come on. Back to my place, I wanna show you everything!”

There wasn’t another break for either of them after that trip and so the next time they met face-to-face was upon Shouyou’s return to Japan. He had plans to try out for a team in the V. League, but Atsumu had no idea which one it was. Of course he hoped it was the Jackals, but he’d never hold Shouyou back by demanding he try out for his team.

Atsumu couldn’t be the one to pick Shouyou up though, because he had training, and he was in Osaka. Shouyou was landing in Tokyo so it was decided Kenma and Kuroo would pick him up and host him while he settled in and tried out for the team he had his eyes on.

So, imagine Atsumu’s surprise when he walked into the gym a few days after the Jackals had their try-outs, ready to meet their new team member and there’s Shouyou standing right there, a Jackals jersey draped over his shoulder, talking with Meian casually.

“Atsumu!” Meian spotted him and Shouyou turned to face him with a bright grin on his face. He unfolded the jersey silently and showed Atsumu the back that had his last name and #21 on it.

“You’re serious?” Atsumu asked, eyes wide.

“Dead.” Shouyou nodded.

“You’re on the Jackals?”

“Yeah.”

“Holy shit!” Atsumu stepped forward and crushed Shouyou to his chest in a tight hug, spinning him around. “This is the best!”

Shouyou laughed, hugging him back. “Atsumu, we’ve been over this. I’ll throw up if you keep spinning me.”

“Oh yeah. Right.” Atsumu let him down and placed an obnoxiously loud kiss on his forehead. “I’m so proud!”

“Half of that happiness is because he gets to be your setter.” Sakusa said, walking past.

“Hinata!” Bokuto yelled. “We’re on the same team!”

“Bokuto-san! We are!” Shouyou beamed. “This is so exciting. You’re all such good players, I’m honoured to play with you.”

“Hey, honour’s ours Ninja Shouyou.” Inunaki winked.

“How – how do you know about that?” Shouyou’s cheeks flushed.

“Atsumu mentioned you’ve been training beach and when I heard from Meian you were trying out, I did my research.” He grinned. “Gold mine of videos out there.”

“I hope you watched the good ones only. I sucked in the beginning.” Shouyou leaned into Atsumu’s side.

“I’m sure we would all suck if we had to play beach though, to be fair.” Bokuto said.

“You would. Oikawa ate shit the first time he stepped on the beach. It was hilarious.” Shouyou grinned.

Atsumu hadn’t had the pleasure of meeting many of Shouyou’s old teammates from Karasuno other than Kageyama really. He’d very briefly spoken to some like Tsukishima and met most of them during games at Nationals, but he’d never met any of them properly, nor as Shouyou’s boyfriend.

“Suga-san says everyone’s heading to a bar nearby, want to come?” Shouyou said as he pulled a clean shirt on after the Jackals vs. Adlers game.

“Everyone as in…?”

“Basically the entire team from my first year, except Noya-senpai, he’s still travelling. Sakusa-san and Bokuto-san too, and Akaashi-san too. I think Kuroo-san and Kenma as well, but it depends how drained Kenma’s social battery is.” Shouyou ruffled his own hair. “So, want to come with?”

“I don’t want to intrude.”

“You’re not. I want you there and Suga-san mentioned some of them wanting to meet you. I saw Osamu earlier; I can see if he wants to come too if that’ll make you feel better. If you genuinely don’t want to go though, you don’t have to. But you’re always welcome.” Shouyou stood in front of Atsumu who was sat on the bench and the setter dropped his head forward, resting it on Shouyou’s stomach.

“Have I ever told you how much of an angel you are? How lucky I am to have you?”

“Once or twice.” Shouyou chuckled. “I’m lucky to have you too, you know?” He ran a hand through Atsumu’s golden locks, leaning down to press a kiss to his head. “Come on, get changed. I’ll go call Osamu and tell him to join us, okay? I’ll wait for you outside.”

“Okay.”

Shouyou left the changing room with his own bag and Atsumu slipped a shirt over his head and a pair of jeans over his legs, standing and ruffling his hair so it didn’t look bad messy but instead good stylish messy. He grabbed his jacket from his locker and slipped it on, pulling the sleeves up slightly before grabbing his bag and leaving the room.

He was met with Shouyou leaned against the wall outside, his bag at his feet and his phone up to his ear. “Yeah, it’s super close to here. Okay, awesome, yeah no rush. Cool, see you later!”

“That ‘Samu?” Atsumu asked.

“Yeah, he’s got a couple things to wrap up with the shop and he’ll be there.” Shouyou nodded, tucking his phone in his back pocket and lifting his bag up. “We can drop these off with coach and head out.” He offered his hand to Atsumu who gladly took it, lacing their fingers together and letting Shouyou guide him to where their coach was with everyone else’s bags.

Then, they headed out to the bar Shouyou’s friends were all gathered at. it wasn’t far, like he said, and it appeared to be completely booked out for just them because the inside was all people Atsumu had seen in photographs with Shouyou. “It’s so good to see everyone.” Shouyou murmured to Atsumu, squeezing his hand.

“I can imagine.” Atsumu squeezed back.

“Hinata!” A man who looked slightly older than them with grey hair waved.

“Suga-san!” Shouyou beamed, dragging Atsumu over to the huge table in the back of the bar where they sat almost in the middle with Kageyama on Shouyou’s other side and Yachi on Atsumu’s other side. “It’s so good to see you all!”

“Hinata! You did so good! I’m so proud of you!” Suga wailed.

“Thank you, Suga-san! Did you… are you drunk already?”

“NO! I’M JUST EMOTIONAL BECAUSE MY JUNIORS ARE SO BIG AND FAMOUS!” Suga heaved. “I remember when you first showed up to that gym, you two!”

Tanaka burst out laughing. “Hey, hey, has your boyfriend heard that story, Hinata?”

“I don’t believe I have?” Atsumu cocked his head to the side.

“Hinata and Kageyama were… they were something when they first showed up at Karasuno.” Daichi shook his head. “Oh, I’m Daichi by the way. I was the Captain when Hinata was a first year.”

“I remember you.” Atsumu nodded. “You were the ace,” he pointed at Asahi, “third year setter” he pointed at Suga, “wing spiker” at Tanaka.

“Good memory. You didn’t mention Kageyama though.” Asahi mused.

“Oh, I already know Tobio-kun.” Atsumu waved them off. “Anyways, do tell the story.”

“When Hinata and Kageyama showed up to apply for the volleyball club, they were at each other’s throats. Hinata challenged Kageyama to a one-on-one and it ended up knocking the vice principals toupee off his head. Daichi kicked them both out of the gym and said they couldn’t join if they didn’t learn they were a team.” Tanaka explained.

“You were that bad?” Atsumu’s eyes widened. “Damn.”

“I wasn’t even around for that.” Yachi gasped. “Poor Shimizu-senpai, having to deal with all of you.”

“Yeah well, it ended happily didn’t it?” Tanaka stuck his tongue out, wrapping an arm around Kiyoko. “Anyways, great game!”

“Eh, I’ve seen better.” Tsukishima shrugged.

“Tsukishima, you jerk.” Shouyou glared. “That was an incredible game that my team won.”

“The Brazil training did you good, huh?” Yamaguchi grinned.

“Speaking of! What the fuck does Ninja Shouyou mean?” Kageyama blurted out.

“Ninja what?” Tsukishima stifled his laughter.

“It’s a cool nickname!” Shouyou defended himself.

“It is, it’s the coolest.” Atsumu said, wrapping an arm around Shouyou’s shoulder and tugging him closer.

“How do you even know about that?” Shouyou asked Kageyama.

“Know about what?” Osamu’s voice appeared behind Shouyou and Atsumu.

“Osamu!”

“’Samu, what the hell?”

“I saw an opportunity and I took it.” Osamu shrugged. “Hi, nice to see you all.”

“You’re the other twin!” Tanaka gasped.

“Sure, we can say that. I’m Osamu.” He took a seat on Yachi’s other side, her being the only other person he knew slightly. “By the way, Bokuto and Sakusa were on their way with Kuroo and Kenma. Something about Bokuto insisting he find Akaashi before they show up.”

“Of course he’s looking for Akaashi.” Atsumu sighed. “Guess he’ll miss out on boasting about Shou’s nickname in Brazil.”

“Oh, the ninja thing, right?”

“Yeah, the ninja thing.”

“What is the ninja thing? Romero mentioned it, said his kid was a fan.” Kageyama said.

“Yeah, that was so cool. I signed something for his kid. Anyways, Ninja Shouyou is what they called me in Brazil because I just appeared wherever the ball was going on the court, and they said it was like a ninja.” Shouyou shrugged. “It’s cool.”

“So you’re famous in Brazil too?” Asahi asked.

“I’ve won a few tournaments.”

“How different is beach?” Daichi questioned.

“Very. You got sand as a surface which is unsteady, so you have to jump in a different way. Then there’s stuff like the wind affecting the balls trajectory. Plus, there’s only two people on a court in beach so I learned to receive, block, spike and set all at once.”

“Your setting could use some work.” Kageyama critiqued.

“Are you offering?”

“You have a whole setter as your boyfriend. And we’re rivals, why would I help you?” Kageyama snorted.

“He is helping me, but two is better than one, isn’t it?” Shouyou raised an eyebrow.

“Anyways! How long have you two been together?” Tanaka waggled his eyebrows.

“We stopped keeping count, but it’s been a long time.” Atsumu replied.

“We met at the Spring Tournament my first year in 2013, but we only started dating the Spring Tournament the year after.”

“Would have been sooner if you listened to me.” Yachi shrugged.

“That is a good point.” Shouyou laughed. “Yachi-san told me Atsumu liked me when he asked for my number after our match first year.”

“He did like you. He was infatuated.” Osamu said, pretending to swoon. “He almost didn’t ask for your number; he was too nervous.”

“’Samu!”

“Kita-san gave him a pep talk and he made me come with him.”

“That’s kind of cute, actually.” Shouyou beamed, kissing Atsumu’s cheek.

“God, I’m so pathetically single.” Suga groaned into his drink.

It wasn’t too long before the others showed up, the others being Sakusa, Bokuto, Akaashi, Kuroo and Kenma. The table grew more crowded, but Atsumu was content by Shouyou’s side, watching his smile grow ever bigger and his eyes gleam brighter as he spoke to all his friends and caught up with them. He was content.
