Work Text:

Maggie didn’t realize how this situation could get even worse until the bat came down on his headGlenn’s headand she could see it all.

She saw their kid—their son. She saw what could’ve beenshould’ve beena mostly happy future.

Maggie saw each moment, both the sad and the happy. When they first shared a kiss.

“Something wrong with me?” she questioned him, an almost amused look on her face.

“No! No, I he said with a nervous chuckle. “I would never.. have.. sex Uh, I’mI’m lost.”

Maggie had a half-smirk on her face. She was shocked as well as amused. She raised her eyebrows and said, “I’ll have sex with you.”

Glenn blinked, clearly confused. “Really..?” He was embarrassed at the way she looked down, but he could tell that she meant it. “Why?”

She looked up at him, her smirk growing bigger. “You’re asking questions?”

He threw his hands up in self-defense with a small, nervous smile as she took off her bag. “Okay, I can’t help wondering.”

“It’s not like our options are vast these days.” She sat her bag down on the pharmacy floor before taking off her hat and setting it to the side. She brushed a strand of hair out of her face with a slight smile before taking the cap off his head.

He looked at her nervously while she kept making glances at his lips. Her lips curled upward into a soft smile before she leaned closer to him, brushing their lips together.

Despite expecting this, Glenn was shocked and it took him a second before kissing her back. She pulled away after a few seconds and said, “and you’re not the only one that’s lonely.”

She saw the moment he protected her in the pharmacy. It felt so long ago, though it had only been almost two years. How have they only been together for two years when it felt like her whole life?

“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Maggie walked behind the front counter and started to go through the shelves, looking for the combination of mifepristone and misoprostol. She picked up a bottle and read the label, Zendrex, then Allopurinol. She cocked her head to the side and furrowed her eyebrows before she heard the snarling of a walker and the feeling of her wrist being grabbed.

“No! No! No! Glenn!” She heard him call her name, but she was too focused on the possibility that she might die heremaybe Glenn, too. “Glenn, help me! Help! Glenn! Get it off of me!”

He grabbed the shelf and lifted it up as he climbed onto the counter. He swung the shelf at the walker’s head, almost slicing it off as she ducked. The walker fell to the floor as he panted, and she wheezed.

“Did it get you? Did it bite you?” he asked in a frantic tone. She couldn’t speak, she was too busy sobbing. He pulled her in and wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug.

“GGlenn!” she tried to get out, warning him of the rotting corpse behind him. She pulled away from the hug as he faced the walker, with its head swinging around.

He unsheathed his knife, trying to be brave. He clenched his teeth and swung the knife at it. It collided with the walker’s head and it fell backwards. Glenn grunted as he stuck the knife into the head a lot, which felt like a million times.

Maggie watched in disgust, fear, happiness that he had protected her, and relief. She was still sobbing, however.

Glenn looked down at the walker’s rotting face and he panted. He stood back up and turned to Maggie. She jumped to wrap her arms around Glenn and hug him. One hand rested on the back of his head, the other wrapped around his shoulder. She sobbed into his shoulder.

-

Maggie remembered how she felt when he said that he didn’t want her to lose him, even if she was pissed at him.

Glenn had been sitting on top of the RV, bored out of his mind. He looked around for what felt like the billionth time, and this time, his face lit up. He saw Maggie.

Then he frowned. She wouldn’t want to talk to him, she was mad because he had told everyone else about the barn.

He sat down the sniper and took off hisDale’shat. “Maggie.” She looked up at him with annoyance and he felt his heart pang with guilt and hurt. “Hey,” he tried again. When he realized he wasn’t going to get a response, he climbed down from the RV and walked over to her.

“Maggie,” he insisted as he ran his hand through his hair. “Maggie. Maggie, just stop for a second.” He seemed desperate for her to talk to him.

“You talked about it. You told Dale, fine. I asked you. II told you. I just asked you for one thing. One thing.” She seemed really frustrated.

“I couldn’t do it,” Glenn insisted.

“My dad’s gonna kick you guys out now. He told me.”

“No, Rick’s gonna work something out with your dad. Okay? I had to tell them.”

“You did not!” Maggie seemed confused as to why he had to tell them, but she wasn’t buying it.

Glenn grabbed her arm gently, making sure not to hurt her. He seemed frustrated now, too. He just wanted her to listen. “No, I did. Okay? I wanted to.” He grabbed the basket out of her hands and sat it down on the ground.

“Listen. You see, I forgot. Okay? I forgot, or maybe I stopped thinking about it, or maybe I didn’t want to think about it,” he paused, quickly thinking about what to say. “I let them lower me into that well like it was funlike I was playing ‘Portal.’” He paused again, and then quickly mentioned, “it’s a video game.”

“Of course it’s a video game,” she said as she looked down at her feet. She looked back up at him as he spoke again.

“And then the pharmacy happened yesterday and I realized something: I forgot that they’re dangerous.” He looked off to the side for a second, then back at her. “I don’t care if they’re sick people or dead people; they’re dangerous. And then I realized something else.”

Maggie wanted to be mad at him, but she really couldn’t stop thinking about kissing him, but she also really wanted to know what else he realized.

“That I don’t want you in danger, ever.” Maggie could feel her heart melt, and she really felt like kissing him now. “So I hate to blow your dad’s big secret, but I’m sick of secrets. Secrets get you killed. And I’d rather have you pissed off at me and alive, than liking me and dead. So that’s why I told them.” Glenn walked away from her, glad he got to at least explain himself.

She crossed her arms over her chest and called out to him when he was farther away, “hey, Walker Bait!”

Glenn rolled his eyes, annoyed. He turned to look at her. “Don’t call me that.”

She let her arms fall to her sides. Maggie didn’t respond yet, just walked up to him. She stopped in front of him. “Okay. Glenn.” She grinned at him, chuckling softly before putting her hands on his neck and kissing him sweetly. He brought his hands up to do the same thing that she was doing to him.

Maggie’s hand moved to the back of his head as she pulled away slightly. She was smiling wide for the first time around him. He leaned back in and kissed her.

-

She remembered his shy and awkward smile after she teased him on the front porch of the Greene house.

“You look like you should be in line for the early bird special,” she said with a small grin. Her grin turned into a smile as she saw the cute, shy smile as he looked down. She took the bucket hat off of his head. “Go get your cap. I’ll wash it for you, okay?”

Glenn nodded as he ran his hand through his hair, and then brushed his hand across her knee as he got up.

-

Maggie recalled when he comforted her after the people she saw as family got murdered by his group, even if they were technically dead.

“So what happens now?”

We bury her,” he paused, and then added, “with your stepmom and your step brother.”

“And then?” Her voice cracked and her eyes were almost filled with tears, but she had a slight smile on her face.

Glenn didn’t know. He crossed his arms before gently grabbing her head in his hands as he kissed her forehead. He noted that her hair smelled like… vanilla. “I don’t know.”

-

Maggie could remember how he had reassured her after finding out that the farm was a no-go.

“Oh, my God. Oh, my God.” Maggie wanted to sob and scream out, but she knew she couldn’t.

Glenn was worried about her and he tried to calm her. “All right, let’s just Let’s just circle back to the highway.”

Maggie didn’t seem to care. “Did you see my dad? Did did he make it?” She turned her head toward him. “Did you see?”

“I couldn’t see anything.”

“And BethI lost Beth. We’ve gotta go back there.”

“We can’t go back, okay? There’s nothing to go back to.”

“But, Beth, she argued.

“I—I .. I think she was with Lori.”

“Did they make it?” Maggie seemed to be begging him for more than she was getting. She was clearly scared out of her mind.

“I don’t know.” Glenn wished he could say more, reassure her that they were fine and that they made it.

“Patricia? Jimmy?” Maggie paused and she took a deep breath. “What if they didn’t make it? What if nobody made it?”

“They made it, okay? They had to. All right, let’s just circle around the highway where we left supplies for Sophia.”

Maggie shook her head frantically. “No, the herd came from that direction,” she said as she looked at him.

They made eye contact for a few seconds, before he looked away and shook his head. “Just.. stop. Stop the car. Stop the car.”

She sniffled as she pushed the brakes and changed gears.

“Let me drive,” he insisted. He got out of the car as she climbed into the passenger’s seat. He threw his hat on the dash, closed the door, and then went to start the car. However, he saw Maggie sobbing. His expression changed and he seemed softer.

“Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, Maggie, look at me. Look at me,” he continued. He grinned, trying to comfort her. “Hey, we’re alive. We made it. Okay? I’m sure they are too. Right?” He waited for her to nod and then he continued to speak. “I love you. Maggie, I love you.”

She stopped crying and was merely shocked, but also excited. He continued speaking. “I should’ve said it a long time ago and it’s been true for a long time.” He had a faint smile on his face seeing her own smile. “We’re gonna be all right, okay? We’re gonna be all right.”

“Okay. Yeah.”

-

Maggie could recall when he looked on her back for scratches, the first time in the cell, and how safe she felt with her head in the crook of his neck.

“I’m so exhausted, I don’t even care,” Maggie said as she and Glenn sat their bag’s on the top bunk. She sat down on the bed.

“Here, let me see,” he said as he sat down next to her. He took his arm in his hands as he searched her skin.

Maggie couldn’t help but smile, even if she had no clue what was going on. “What you doing?”

“Checking for scratches,” Glenn whispered as he looked at her shoulder, and then her back. Maggie didn’t know if she had ever felt more loved and safe in her whole entire life in a room alone with a guy (except for her brother Shawn and her dad.)

“You’re okay,” he reassured her, although she wasn’t the one who needed it. He pressed his lips against her shoulder, and then she buried her face into his.

-

Maggie missed whenever she wanted to go out on a run and she had to deal with Glenn worrying about her, even if she used to complain about it.

“Is there any place that hasn’t been completely looted?” Daryl asked, in that usual gruff voice.

Glenn looked down, and then up at Daryl. “We saw signs for a shopping center just north of here.”

“Yeah, but there’s too much debris on the road. A car will never get through there,” Maggie told them.

“I can take one of ya.”

“I’ll go,” Maggie told Daryl, and Glenn got visibly protective.

“No, Maggie, after everything you’ve been through, okay, I’ll go,” Glenn insisted.

Maggie shook her head and smiled. “I want to go. For Lori, I have to.”

Glenn could understand that, he could, but it didn’t make it any better. He knew it wasn’t right to make Maggie stay and he also knew that she wouldn’t listen to him on this one, she was much too stubborn. He sighed and nodded. “Okay.” He moved over to the backseat of the car and grabbed something. He placed his hand on her neck, his thumb caressing her cheek.

“I love you. Be safe,” he whispered lovingly.

Maggie just barely smiled and they both leaned in, kissing each other lovingly. “I will,” she murmured against his lips before giving him another quick peck. She pulled away, then climbed on Daryl’s motorcycle.

Glenn still didn’t like it, but he didn’t control Maggie. He knew that she could take care of herself.

-

Maggie could feel his arms wrapped around her, she could still remember the way he smelled, and the way he whispered into her ear.

Maggie found Glenn, staring at walkers from behind the fence. “Hey. I thought it was my watch.”

“I got it.”

“Keep you company?” Glenn nodded his head towards the fence.

She rested her arms on the wood, and then her head on her arms.

“That was a hell of a choke hold,” Glenn said, admiring her. He smiled and nodded after he said it.

“I should have put him to sleep,” Maggie said with a chuckle.

Glenn smiled and looked down at his hands. His smile slowly faltered. He shifted slightly and spoke, “when we got back from Woodbury… I made it all about me. And you needed your space and I didn’t give you that.” He shook his head as he apologized, in his own special way.

“I didn’t need my space from you,” she sighed. “I just… I wanted you to see me.” She smiled, though it just barely seemed forced. It faltered slightly, then came back again. She shook her head. Then she laughed, “I’m with you. I’m always with you, you know?” she said as she tucked her hair behind her ear, the tears in her eyes becoming apparent.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered and she nodded.

“I know,” she whispered back.

“I’m sorry.” Glenn moved closer to her and they wrapped their arms around each other.

“I know.” She hummed against his shoulder as they rocked back and forth.

“Oh, God, I love you..” he whispered into her ear. “I love you.”

They pulled away slightly to look at each other and they both had big grins on their faces. They leaned in and kissed each other. It started out slow and gentle, then quickly turned hot and passionate.

-

Maggie missed how shy and nervous he seemed to be when he proposed.

She remembered how she felt during that day, and it was one of the best days of her life.

Someone was walking up behind her and she could hear the footsteps. She knew not to be worried, but you could never be too sure these days. She turned around and she smiled when she saw her boyfriend.

“Hey.”

“Hey.

“Carl was looking for you,” she mentioned to Glenn.

He nodded. “He found me. I think we should head over. Rick has something to say. Uh, just… one more thing before that.” The smile that Maggie gave him reassured Glenn. “Here.” He grabbed her hand and then placed something small in it.

She slowly opened her hand, then closed it again when she saw it was a ring, and then she grinned. She nodded and spoke in a quiet voice, “yes.” She leaned in and kissed Glenn, he kissed her back. His hands were on her waist, and hers were on the back of his head and his cheek.

-

A few days after his death, Maggie was laying down. She couldn’t help but think about how she used to sleep with him, now she’s alone.

Maggie had her head on his shoulder. She had her eyes closed, but Glenn was staring at the ceiling. He shifted his head to rest against hers then he sat up, her hand no longer resting around his chest.

He sighed and dragged his hand down his face as he turned to look at her. “I don’t think you should go today.”

She opened her eyes to look at Glenn. “Really?”

“Yeah.”

Maggie looked down and thought about it, then she spoke, “we have the suits.”

“Yeah, but you don’t have to go. You shouldn’t.”

She sat up next to him and brushed his hair away from his face. “You know everything’s gonna work out, right?” She waited for him to respond, and then he didn’t. Her hand moved to the back of his head. “Right?”

“Right.” He nodded slightly, but it seemed hesitant. “Right.” This time, it sounded more confident. Glenn leaned in and kissed her.

“But you’re staying, okay?” he told her with a small smile.

Maggie looked between his eyes, thinking about whether she should listen or not. Finally, she nodded. “Fine.”

-

Up in the guard tower, Maggie was fast asleep. Glenn was looking out into the yard, his knee almost to his chest with his hand resting on his leg.

He looked over at Maggie affectionately with a loving smile on his face. She was so beautiful to him. Honestly, Glenn didn’t realize anyone could be so beautiful. He wished he could just capture this moment, then he got the idea.

He grabbed the camera he had in his bag and then made his way over to her. He closed his eye, making sure to get the perfect shot. He waited a second and then the shutter clicked. She jumped  and opened her eyes to look at him.

“Sorry,” he laughed.

She smiled up at him. “Changing of the guard?”

Glenn ran his hand through his hair. “Yeah. I’ll bring you breakfast after perimeter check.” He leaned over to her and kissed her gently.

As she pulled away, she grabbed the photo of her sleeping figure. She stared at it in disgust. “Oh, my God. Throw that away.”

“Yeah.. not gonna happen. It’s mine,” he insisted. She rolled her eyes and smiled up at him as he opened the trapdoor to climb down. She kissed his hand and smiled as he disappeared.

-

Maggie was sitting in a trailer at Hilltop with Sasha and Enid.

“Why are there balloons on Abraham’s grave?” Sasha questioned them. Enid looked confused and then turned her head to Maggie expectantly, then she met her gaze.

“I didn’t have the heart to tell you.” She turned to Sasha. “Glenn would’ve. He was a bad liar.”

Enid chuckled before looking at Sasha. “Sorry.”

Sasha smiled and nodded. “There’s no need to be sorry,” she reassured. “Nothing wrong with balloons.”

“There’s nothing marking the graves.”

“Nope,” Maggie agreed. She looked at her hand and opened it. “I was gonna use this for Glenn’s.” She looked at Enid. “It was my dad’s. He gave it to him. But I’m giving it to you,” she told Enid as she extended her hand out to her, showing her the pocket watch up close. She sat it in Enid’s hand carefully and Enid looked at it.

Somehow, that conversation reminded her of the time in the tunnel with Glenn (and Abraham, Tara, Sasha, Bob, Eugene, and Rosita.)

Tara’s leg was stuck on a rock and Glenn was trying his best to help her, and they were panting.

“Go. Go,” Tara insisted. “Find Maggie. Go find Maggie.”

“No. No.” Glenn shook his head. He was just as stubborn. “No.”

“Glenn, you can’t save me,” she told him with a smile. “Even if you got this off me, I can’t run. And if you help me, they’re gonna get both of us.”

“There’s got to be a way. There’s got to be a different way.”

“Glenn, they’re coming.”

“I’m not leaving. I’m not leaving you!”

“Get out of here!” Several strands of hair were in her face, and in any other situation, they would’ve bugged her. However, she was too busy worrying about Glenn surviving. “Go!”

Glenn seemed shocked. He looked behind him at the walkers, then he spoke, “no.” He stood up and fired at the walker’s heads, shooting the first one’s head. Then the next one, the next one, and the next one. He shot at another one, then the gun clicked. He looked down at it and he was.. afraid. He turned to Tara. “Come on! Come on!”

They heard an engine revving and then gunfire. The lights were bright and they covered their eyes. “Get down!” they heard from Abraham and they ducked. Glenn put his arms over Tara as all the walkers got shot up.

Glenn looked up when he heard no more gunfire. He stood all the way up and turned around. His eyes were squinted from the bright light. That’s when he saw her —saw Maggie . It was really her. After all this time, after being separated for what felt like so long, it was really her. He felt like bursting into tears.

Maggie walked up to him quickly. They took a few seconds, just staring at each other. Then they wrapped their arms around each other tightly. They were crying and laughing. Glenn couldn’t believe it. After what felt like years away from her, they were finally back together.

“Oh, my God,” Glenn whispered with his face into her neck. They pulled away from each other and Maggie had one of the biggest smiles on her face. That’s one of the things Glenn loved most about her.

Maggie couldn’t keep her hands off of him and she started to kiss him, it was clear how much she missed him just from that. She tangled her fingers in his hair.

When she pulled away, she pushed his hair behind his ear. “Hi,” she said.

“Hi,” Glenn said back. Then they kissed again, their arms were tightly wrapped around each other, trying to get as close as they could.

-

Maggie always hated sleeping alone, even when she was a kid. She was glad Glenn came along, she had been sleeping alone for way too long (now she sleeps by herself again.)

Much like before, one of them was wide awake while the other’s eyes were closed with their arm wrapped around them.

This time, it was Glenn resting and Maggie wide awake.

“You thinkin’ about them?” he asked, referring to Rick and the other’s.

“Yeah,” Maggie told him. “I feel guilty.”

Glenn opened his eyes. “Hey,” he paused, thinking about what to say. “Hey, we get to have… little vacations on.. bookstore floors,” he chuckled.

Maggie immediately knew he was referencing them when they were at the prison and he was sick. They were holding hands and he had told her that he could “use a vacation for a weekend” and that their anniversary was coming up. She smiled. Then it slowly faded.

“We’re not back there anymore,” she told him. She looked between his eyes quickly. “We’re living for something else. And they don’t get to right now.”

“Well, we did almost die today,” he joked. “And we don’t have a car. And we’re drinking toilet water.”

Maggie grinned. “It just feels really good having this… because it’s not about what was. Not last night. It’s all about what’s gonna be.”

“Don’t feel guilty about that,” Glenn reassured with a smile. Then he leaned down and kissed her delicately. And then again, for slightly longer.

They buried their faces into each other’s shoulders’ and Maggie wrapped her arms around him tightly. She smiled at him, though he couldn't see it.

Eventually, she closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep.

-

Maggie wished he would come back.

She remembered when he went on a run with Noah, but he had come back that time.

“That’s everything?” Glenn asked Tara. When she nodded, he brushed his hand across her elbow. “All right.” He turned towards Maggie.

“All set?” Maggie questioned.

He nodded, then hummed, “mm-hmm.”

“You got this,” she encouraged as she rubbed her hand against his arm. “You always do.” She smiled.

“Yeah,” he muttered as he leaned in and kissed her. He smiled as he pulled away.

-

Maggie hated to reminisce about how happy he was to have a child.

Dr. Carson spread the gel across her stomach with the transducer, trying to find the fetus.

Glenn was holding tightly onto her hand and he was looking between the screen and her, while Maggie was only looking at the screen.

When they heard the heartbeat and saw the fetus, they both smiled.

Glenn looked at it with admiration, and he couldn’t take his eyes off the screen.

Glenn couldn’t explain it—or maybe it didn’t even make sense—but he was so proud of his child, even if it didn’t do anything yet. He swore he didn’t want to be a father until he found out Maggie was pregnant.

Then it changed.

He was so ready to raise this child with Maggie. Ready for the first words, ready for their first footstops. He wanted it so badly, he’d do anything to get it.

Maggie felt the same way.

But instead of staring at just the screen, she took glances at his face, even though she could only see the side of it.

He looked so adorable with his proud smile. She really just wanted to reach up and kiss him, maybe more.

-

She stood over his grave and she looked at it with tears in her eyes. She slowly brought her hand up to her stomach.

Maggie could see Sasha in the corner of her eyes as the wind pushed the hair out of her face. She crouched down and tucked her hair behind her ear before placing her hand onto the mound of dirt.

Sasha crouched down with her and touched her back lightly, asking for her attention silently. She showed her what she had in hand.

Maggie immediately recognized it and extended her hand that was on her stomach out to touch it. She took it in her hand.

“It was in Glenn’s pocket,” Sasha informed her. “All Abraham had was a cigar.” She smiled, despite the circumstances.

Maggie’s nostrils flared and Sasha shook her head, looking away from Maggie. She looked towards Maggie again as she kissed the pocket watch, then sat it down next to the rocks on Glenn’s grave, like she was saying goodbye.

She breathed deeply and closed her eyes, trying not to cry out. She sniffled and then she heard Sasha speak, “it feels like everything is wrong.”

She shook her head. “Not everything,” Maggie disagreed.

Sasha nodded and Maggie looked away. “He told me that you’re gonna be all right. He said you’ll just have to take it easy for the next few days,” Sasha said to her.

“He told me that we have to stay,” Maggie paused, thinking about it. “That we, um… He says it’s better if he’s close, just in case. ‘Til the baby is born.”

Sasha tilted her head to the side. “Then we’ll stay.”

“I’m still thinking about it.”

“You’re staying,” she insisted softly as she nodded. “And so am I.”

Maggie couldn’t help but to smile at Sasha. She never realized just how much she appreciated her.

“It’s nice to see you up,” Jesus said suddenly. Maggie and Sasha turned their heads quickly. He was carrying green flowers.

“Flowers,” Maggie said as she realized something. Jesus sat some of the flowers onto Abraham’s grave.

“It was you,” she continued.

“Ones on your bed, too,” Sasha mentioned as she kept her eyes on Jesus.

Jesus walked over to Glenn’s grave and Maggie got out of the way. “I read somewhere that blue flowers.. inspire strength and calming.”

“What’s green?” Maggie asked him.

He looked up at her. “Release.”

Maggie looked down at his grave again and sniffled. She smiled as she rubbed her hand up and down her torso. Then she crossed her arms as Jesus rubbed her shoulder gently.

“Thank God you’re finally awake,” Gregory said. Maggie frowned. She hated Gregory. A lot. “You people said you got them all.”

“We thought we did,” she informed him. “It was just an outpost.”

“H—how many of them were there?” he stammered.

“There were a lot,” she frowned. “Maybe hundreds.”

“Do they know the deal you made us take, Marsha?” Maggie felt like punching him in the nose. She had never hated someone so much.

“It’s Maggie,” Jesus corrected and she appreciated that, too.

“No,” she responded to Gregory. She saw him make a face at Jesus. “And we didn’t make you take the deal, Gregory.

“I—I’m happy we could patch you up,” Gregory stuttered. “You need to go. Make sure you let RIch know what we did for you,” he told Maggie as he walked away.

Maggie was the first to step up. “Dr. Carson said I should stay.”

He walked towards them again. “If he thinks he has the authority to make that decision, he’s mistaken.”

Sasha opened her mouth to say something, but was interrupted by Gregory. “Don’t look at me like that. She’ll be safer with her own people.” He gestured towards Maggie. “And we’ll be safer without her.” He leaned in real close to Sasha. “You need to keep your distance from Maggie and stay focused on your work here at Hilltop.” Then he turned to Jesus.

“Did you do this?” He seemed shocked and angry. “We don’t bury our dead, we burn them!”

“I did it. I don’t live here,” Sasha corrected.

“Gregory, this is Sasha,” Jesus told Gregory, then paused. “She got Maggie here. They’re both from Alexandria.”

Sasha tilted her head to the side again, then Gregory spoke, “I can’t— I-I don’t have time to keep track of everybody. I’ve been recuperating, too, Jesus—from a stab wound. You know? Maggie said that her people could take care of the Saviors. S—So far, all they’ve done is put our community at risk.” Gregory turned to Maggie. “You know, if they see you here, they’ll think we’ve colluded!”

“We did ,” Sasha told him in annoyance.

“I did not agree to this ,” Gregory said as he motioned to the graves. “If they think we helped attack their outpost, they’ll do that to us . Jesus, do you have any idea what plausible deniability means?”

“Yes.”

“Well, then you know it’s our way out. If they leave, we have plausible deniability.”

“Gregory, it— it’ll be night soon,” Jesus told him, trying to reason with him. “It’s not safe for them to leave now.”

Gregory scoffed and shook his head. He looked Sasha up and down. “Look, I’m a good guy. You can stay the night. But leave in the morning.”

“We’ll talk more about it tonight.” Jesus had a slightly demanding tone to his voice, but he was still calm.

“No, I made my decision.”

Jesus was getting angrier now. “I’m just saying that maybe—”

“Do you want to go back with them?” Gregory threatened.

“I’ll take them back.”

“I meant—”

“I know what you meant,” Jesus told him.

“So it’s settled.” Gregory walked away from them again.

Sasha stepped up. “No, it’s not. Maggie.. is pregnant.”

“Well.. that’s her mistake,” Gregory argued.

Sasha’s face turned to one of annoyance and she went to walk up to Gregory, her mouth opening to say something.

“Wait,” Maggie interrupted.

Jesus walked away, throwing the flowers off the side in annoyance. That left Maggie and Sasha standing there in silence. Sasha crossed her arm over her chest and shook her head.

Then, Sasha walked off, too.

Even though they left her alone, Maggie appreciated them so much. Both of them have done a lot for her, and Sasha understood her.

She didn’t have her parents either. Shortly after Beth died, Tyreese did, too. Abraham died, then Glenn. They both lost everybody, but they had each other. That’s all Maggie could get.

And she was grateful.
