A Ninja and A Detective

Summary:

Little tidbits from an abandoned fanfic where one of the aspects is Yagami from Judgement is mistaken for a Ninja by Azami from Shin Sakura Wars. I really liked the partnership I made, so will decide to write on a whim.

Chapter Text

Quick backstory for those who don’t know- This is mostly based off the Yakuza x Sakura Wars story I did for a moment. Haruka, Akiyama, and Yagami are transported to 1940’s Tokyo during Shin Sakura Wars and are adjusting slowly while trying to solve things.

Yagami shook his head as his newest Side-Cases ended up pretty sour for him. Sure he couldn’t win them all, but the fact that no one learned anything didn’t sit well with him. He tried to give a speech about change and all that, but the couple just ignored him and went on their merry way. The effort was not worth going through 3 disguises and blowing through a lot of money.

He sighed as he took out a cigarette and retreated to a small alcove to not bother any passing pedestrians. He briefly wondered if he should do some work for Akiyama to get some money. Though he wasn’t keen on working for someone lazy…Yagami himself notwithstanding.

As soon as he lit the cigarette in his mouth- a sharp object passed by and pinned the cigarette onto the wall. A sharp kunai precisely holding the cigarette at the end of the blade.

“What the hell?”

“Cigarettes give away your position. I thought a Master Ninja would know that.”

Yagami sighed as he looked towards the source of the voice, “Not you again, Kid. I thought I told you- I’m not a Ninja.” His previous experience with that self proclaimed American Ninja is still fresh in his mind.

Azami placed her hands in her pocket and threw down a smoke bomb. In an instant she was in Yagami’s face in his brief moment of blindness, standing on top of the Kunai that pinned the cigarette.

“I was observing you. You cannot claim to not be a master when you effortlessly disguise yourself on the fly. Had I not been observing you I would’ve been completely fooled.”

Yagami shook his head, “Changing clothes is usually part of the job of a DETECTIVE. Well in my area of expertise at least. It doesn’t mean I am a Ninja.” How many times is he going to explain this to the girl?

Azami smiled, “Denying oneself as a Ninja is a textbook technique to avoid suspicion. One cannot just proclaim themselves to be a Ninja so fruitfully.”

He gave her a stare, “Yet…you proudly claim yourself to be one?” A small bead of sweat formed on his head at the strange girl.

“I cannot deceive a Master of Ninjistu like yourself. And I do not see you as a threat.”

“Explain the first time we met. You were throwing a bunch of Kunai and Shurikens at me like I was a threat.”

Azami backed away from Yagami’s face and stood straight up on the Kunai on the wall. Her form towering over Yagami as she crossed her arms, she tried to keep an air of coolness, but Yagami could clearly see a small bit of embarrassment on her face.

“I am a mere Minnow compared to a mighty Koi like yourself, forgive me.”

Yagami analyzed her form and shook his head realizing he would get nowhere if he grilled her, “Uh-huh.” She didn’t want to admit that she screwed up from the looks of it.

“Perhaps one day you’ll meet my master and I can see what two Masters of Ninjistu clashing looks like.”

“Yeah, I guess that would be nice.” Yagami contemplated what type of crazy person they would be. Especially if they make girl’s like Azami think they are one. He’s either a great Con Artist or just someone who is super into Ninjas.

Azami’s eyes flared up in excitement, “Really?! I guess it makes sense that you see a fledgling before you, Yagami Takayuki.” She was acting humble, though Yagami could hear a slight falter in her voice. Like she had something else to say, but kept it to herself.

Yagami waved his hand randomly, looked away for a moment, and decided to go for another cigarette…just to find that his entire pack was missing. He looked back to where the “Ninja girl” was to see that she was gone. A note now on the Kunai.

Cigarettes are bad for you.

“Oh come on.”

Yagami decided to just go on his way back to the Imperial Hotel, he had enough excitement for one day and wanted to just crash on the bed.

Azami watched him from a nearby rooftop, a couple of items in her possession she picked off Yagami. In her hand was the carton of cigarettes which she promptly stored away to safely dispose of later. She then placed two items of interest right in front of her, an unopened Staminan X bottle and Yagami’s badge that signified he was a Lawyer.

She looked at the bottle first and read the contents on the back, it seemed to be a juice and medicine hybrid of sorts. She was tempted to drink it, but the instructions on the back had a clear warning label of CHILDREN AGED 16 AND UNDER PLEASE CONSULT A DOCTOR BEFORE CONSUMPTION.

So she took a closer look at the Lawyer’s badge, the ridges and curves felt nice to touch, and it was quite obvious that the badge belonged to Yagami since what other reason would a Ninja have a badge like this? Maybe he used it for disguises but he wouldn’t exactly need it on his person at all times. She saw how he disguised, he usually doesn’t keep effects on him as he stayed out of sight and just needed to look the part.

A Ninja and a Lawyer? What can’t a Master Ninja do?!

She once again looked towards Yagami’s last position to see that he had already gotten off the street she was looking at, more than likely heading back to the Imperial Hotel, “Just you wait, Yagami Takayuki, I’ll prove to be a Ninja worthy of your respect.”

And to start she learned a valuable lesson in staying hidden in plain sight and disguising herself. Something her master had taught her a long time ago, but it was rewarding to see it from a fresh angle.
