Work Text:
It had been a hot day traveling with Link through the Taobab Grasslands, but thankfully you have reached some shady woods. You still had a few hours of sunlight left to forage for something for dinner, and the canopy provided blessedly cooler temperatures. You're sweaty, dusty, and tired. You scrape together enough energy to help Link set up your modest camp, then head to the nearby stream to soothe your tired feet.
You sit on a rock enjoying the breeze and the view: Link is shirtless in the middle of the water, watching intently for fish to pluck from the current. His sturdy frame supporting firm, tanned muscles. The light filtering through the trees sparks off of the water and his warm blonde hair. You give a sigh colored with longing and contentment that is lost to the sounds of the stream. The scene is interrupted by a flash of movement and a quick splash of water. He returns to shore with the bass in one strong hand and quickly dispatches it. Link turns to catch another fish but pauses when you call "Teach me". He turns and offers you his hand to lead you into the water. You shed the remains of your clothing, matching his undress, and take his hand to wade in. A subtle pink dusts his cheeks at your display, making his eyes seem even more blue.
The water creeps up your thighs as you navigate the slippery rocks. He guides you to where the stream reaches your hips. Link lets go of your hand and signs 'Bend your knees slightly and hold very still. I'll let you know when to strike'. He shifts into a position behind you while you take a deep breath to steady yourself in the flowing water. You watch a few smaller fish swim by, too puny for your endeavor. Then you spot a decent sized Hylian Bass move in your direction. Your hands are poised above the water, remaining as still as you can, you hold your breath. Link gives a quick whistle to indicate 'Now!' and your hands smack into the water and grab ahold of the fish. It thrashes as you bring it to the surface and you are bested by its slippery scales.
What would have been a nice addition to dinner flops back into the water. You laugh wildly at your brush with success and at the spray of water from the excitement, your fatigue now a distant memory. Your balance wavers and you fall backward. You expect to feel cold water surrounding you, but instead you are greeted by the very solid and very warm body of your companion, supporting your weight and easing you back onto your feet with his hands firmly holding on to your waist. He eases up his grip, but his hands remain in place on your bare skin. The warmth from his palms making a nice contrast to the chilly water. His fingers softly making indents into your flesh. Your skin prickles with bumps from the intimacy of his touch. His voice comes from closer than you had expected "Try again."
You swallow and try to will your heart into slowing down. You try not to think too hard about the position you are in, but you still memorize every minute point of contact. Soon enough another bass finds its way downstream to where the pair of you are standing. You ready yourself and wait as it comes closer. Closer. You can feel his breath against your neck as he whistles once again 'Now!' Your hands plunge into the water and return with your catch. You are so elated, laughter rising into the air at your victory over nature.
Link helps you back to the shore and you feel the inevitable absence of his hands. He smiles and signs 'You did well.' You return his smile and reply "It would have gone to my head if I got it in one try. Thank you." You gaze at each other for a moment longer until the fish interrupts. Link shows you how to prepare the fish for cooking and what seasonings to use.
It was the best meal you have had in a long time.
