Chapter Text
Location: Unknown Space Station
Time: ???
Date: ???
When one first saw space, the normal thing happened.
A jaw drop, wasting your day looking at some stars for about a couple of hours, and keeping your eyes to the window, searching for the streak of light that was a comet.
When Jasper had first boarded the ship, he had done this exact same procedure. Another that was added to his was staring at his beautiful home planet from afar.
He began to feel terribly guilty for subjecting such a beautiful water rock to atrocities such as global warming, deforestation, and exploitation of natural resources, and of course, he suddenly felt a surge of determination to save it.
That had been three years ago.
Now, the face of the ink black world dotted with lights seemed draining, making Jasper hallucinate that he and the team were the only ones in the world.
What had made his new surroundings even worse was watching his home be decimated. He remembered the panicked voice of Julia as she screamed and cried for him to come look out the window, and what had once been an annoyed groan became the feeling of horrifying emptiness.
Everything, everyone that lived on Earth - every child, every adult, every senior, had been obliterated in an instant. Perhaps they had just woken up and seen God.
Terrence had locked himself away in his room, Jasper continuously hearing his frequent sobs.
Julia had been violently thrown into denial, and when she had snapped out of it, she too became distorted.
Jasper had merely thrown himself into his work. Every once in a while, the barren, naked truth that everything was gone would hurt his mind, and he would let tears slip down his face.
Perhaps what hurt, even more, was learning that it was their creation that had caused the end of the world.
Just a simple program to enhance the powers of their Military Drones had become some sort of monster. Capable of spawning anywhere, and in anyone.
Jasper still remembered the day that the creature had escaped and had most likely made its way to Earth. The scientist still couldn’t understand what had made it do the things it did. He couldn’t remember ever making it violent and malicious; and yet it was, its only goal being to destroy.
So of course, when Terrence had suggested they make
more
- even if it was for a different reason - he was completely against the idea.
