Chapter Text
The warm rays of autumn sun shone through the windows to the quiet office in a school building. There, on a most comfortable looking chair sat a lonesome man's figure. It was Student Council (SC) president and a student of Class 3-A, Nagumo Miyabi. This student is in no way short of outstanding, always looking dazzling and constantly admired by many. But if someone saw him right now, they would think that he looks kind of haggard. He has a dark circles under his eyes and dishelved hair. The two buttons of his shirt are unbuttoned, complemented with loose neck tie and he is leaning heavily on the desk. Infront of him is a pile of documents that he seems to be working on. But he can't focus properly.
It's already past lessons and cheerful voices of students leaving school can be heard from outside, further distracting him from his painfully achieved focus.
"Haaa...." Another sigh. Nagumo already lost track of how many times he sighed today. His eyes once again fell onto the letter on the side of the desk.
Now you may be thinking, what is written in there to make normaly cool-headed president lose his composture?
Well, it's a love letter.
Make no mistake, Nagumo Miyabi has recieved countless letters in his student carrier, both in the elementary and high school. He is not someone who would be shaken just like that. Moreso when the letter doesn't even have a name of sender, clearly ment just as a show of quiet admiration from unknown source.
But last week, he got to know who the writer is.
It's Ayanokoji Kiyotaka. A love letter from Ayanokoji Kiyotaka.
"That guy...has a quite nice hand-writting”
The characters on the paper seem almost like printed by machine, precise and confident strokes combining into words expressing pure and sincere admiration. It can be seen from the composition of words that the author put a lot of thought into writing.
Originaly, Nagumo didn't really pay that much attention while reading it. Just one love letter of many, no need to overreact. But then he found that the letter was a part of elaborate plan by Ayanokoji. Miyabi didn't really understand anagrams that much, but he got curious. So, knowing what words to look for, he read the letter again and again, eventually figuring out the secret message hidden between the lines. And by repeated reading, he also came to appreciate the sophisticated beauty of the sentences, words chosen carefully and ingeniously. It could be easily called the piece of art.
"All of that...just to get some first year expelled?" This was the main point. If it was only a trap, why bother to make it sound so...poetic? Why does it sound so nice reading outloud? (He only read it aloud just to make sure there is no other hidden message, no other reason). Why do the words scream with sincerity?
[...I really admire SC president...]
A brief memory flashed through blonde's head. Could it be...that he really ment it at the time? Nagumo thought about those eyes. They always seem so clear that the only thing you can see in them is your own reflection or so deep that you can't make out even a single speck of light. Either way, you get nothing.
But it doesn't matter. There is a behaviour coded deep in our bones that makes us act in certain ways. The so called non-verbal commucation gives us about 60% information about how the others feel and what do they think, even if they mean to hide it. And no matter how much you try, you cannot fake it. Afterall, it's impossible to run away from your deepest consciousness. That would require you to be raised away from human society so you couldn't unknowingly learn those habits. Or you would have to have your guard up constantly, which is very draining. Anyway, both of those are nearly impossible. It's highly inprobable that Ayanokoji fits either criteria.
In particular, when people lie, they habitually do not look the other person into eyes. So it means that when Ayanokoji didn't avert his gaze while expressing his thoughts, he was telling the truth.
When Nagumo arrived at this conclusion, he froze briefly. When he came back to his senses, he noticed that, at some unknown point, he started scribbling on one of the documents. He draw a pair of eyes that seemed like they could see through one's soul, with few hair strands falling over them.
Nagumo quicky crumpled the document into ball and then put his hands away, as if it was scolding hot. (The document can't be used anymore anyway.)
He pushed his chair back and quickly spinned around a couple of times.
Really, what's that guy doing, writing love letters when he already has a girlfriend? Image of Karuizawa Kei appeared in his mind. Silky blonde hair, sky blue eyes, overall nice appearance.
Wait.
Didn't he just desribe himself?
Blonde hair? Check.
Blue eyes? Check
Handsome and good figure? Check and check.
"...am I his type?"
As he thought so, Nagumo unconsciously started straightening the crumpled paper before grabbing the pen again.
But would Ayanokoji, no- Kiyotaka, risk going after him when he already has Karuizawa?
...
Honestly, it's not that hard to imagine. Nagumo takes good care of himself. He uses one of the best shower gels, special hair conditioner on top of a shampoo, has a well-build body from many sport activities and is naturally handsome. Not only are his looks top class, but he is also very smart, athletic, charismatic, popular AND is a president of the Student's council. Karuizawa comes nowhere near that. If Nagumo turned him (Kiyotaka) down, nothing bad would happen. At most, he and Karuizawa would break up. But if the confession went well, Kiyotaka would have a boyfriend leagues above his own. A win-win situation either way.
He looked at the eyes drawn on the paper. Actually, Kiyotaka himself doesn't look half bad. With sharp jawline, soft hair, intoxicating eyes and smooth, pale skin. As if he was in minimal contact with sunlight through his life. His apathetic expression gave him kind of a cool vibe, but his behavior is most often naive and gentle. Now that he thinks about it, this contrast is quite...cute. Can he maintain that apathetic face all the time? Or does he show emotion to the people that are closest to him?
Nagumo actually knows the answer to this question. You see, he once had the younger man at almost 24/7 surveilance and knows for sure, that Kiyotaka Ayanokoji is man of one face. But maybe his so called girlfriend has seen his more expressive side? If Nagumo started dating Kiyotaka, would he get to see this side of his, too? Does Ayanokoji Kiyotaka get worried? Embarrased? Flustered? Focused? Confused? Does he smile?
Pen strokes grew more agressive as Nagumo felt heat rising to his cheeks. His throat felt dry.
His gaze fell onto the letter again. He thought of Horikita Manabu. How would the precious former-student-council president feel if he realized that Nagumo got to know his favourite kohai so much more than Manabu ever got the chance? Would he be jealous?
Wait, does he want Manabu to be jealous? Jealous of whom? Kiyotaka or him?
One thing is for sure, though. It would certainly attract senpai's attention. The two of them always seemed unexplainably close.
Nagumo's thoughts came to a screetching halt. When did they grow so close? Horikita-senpai was usually cold towards others, at least on the surface. But toward Ayanokoji Kiyotaka? Never. He treated him better than even his secretary (- and that means something). Everyone amongs their classmates whispered that Tachibana-senpai was just a step away from becoming Manabu's girlfriend. Did...did that kohai somehow manage to close the distance even more? In that case, that would make them...
No!-- ...I mean, No. That doesn't make any sense, right? Obviously, Kiyotaka couldn't be dating Karuizawa and Manabu at the same time. And since he and Karuizawa started dating since... since the spring break? That-- Did he hook up with Karuizawa due to heartbreak? Or replacement?
Why Karuizawa, though? With no apparent prior contact...
Could it be... Kiyotaka likes partners who are more...dominant? It feels like he has inclinations of going with whatever others want (as if he is perfectly used to taking orders).
So it was like that the whole time, huh?
"Huuu-..."
Suddenly feeling anger well up inside of him, he scratched almost finished portrait with powerful lines until nothing could be made clear of the previously handsome face. Only those striking eyes peeked through slits between forest of lines. Like with original, nothing could completely cover those pupils, making people tremble.
But not Nagumo.
Fingers interlocked and elbows resting on the desk, Nagumo started thinking about his next step. He always gets what he wants, and this time will be no exception. Anyway, Kiyotaka provoked him first, so he only has himself to blame.
