Work Text:

Buck looks at the girl next to him. Her (y/h/c) falling over her shoulder as her (y/e/c) eyes focus on the book in-front of her.

Recently after almost two decades of friendship Buck's feelings had started to change about his best friend.

He started noticing small things he hadn't before. Things like how her lips parted slightly when she was focused or how she hums quietly to herself.

He started paying more attention to all those little things. Smiling every time he noticed a new one, almost falling love with them?

His feelings changed to one's he couldn't really describe. Like how he felt giddy at the mention of her name or how his breath caught in his throat when she touched him.

He found himself always wanting to be close to her, finding every excuse to be.

"Buck?", the sweet voice snaps him out of his thoughts. The girl looking back at him. He hadn't realised he'd been staring.

"Huh, yeah sorry?", he rambles.

"What are you staring out? Do I have something on my face?", she asks closing her book, a finger between pages keeping it marked.

"No, just lost in my thoughts.", he replies.

A strand of hair falls in front of the girls face. It takes everything in Buck to not reach out and move it behind her ear.

He must've looked like a love struck puppy every time he was around her, following her around to the ends of the earth.

Once she'd moved the hair from her face herself he felt his shoulder sag. Did he just miss another chance?

Buck always fell into situations were he could easily have made a move but he was always to scared to do so.

He hadn't even come to terms that he has a crush on his childhood best friend, or had he?

"Hey Y/n?", the girl takes her eyes away from her page once again at the sound of his voice.

"Yeah?", she says. Buck looked into her eyes. Desperate to know if she felt the same way he does. He searches her eyes but he can't find the answers there.

"You look nice today.", his eyes fall to her lips. He really wanted to say beautiful, not nice.

Best friend's shouldn't be having these thoughts about one another, right? They shouldn't be thinking about the way the other ones lips would feel on their own.

A short laugh leaves them, "Thanks Buck." God he loved the way she said his name.

He could swear he seen a light blush coating her cheeks. But you see what you want to see, right?

Buck groans as he hears a knock at the door. It couldn't be any later than...oh, 2pm.

Buck wonders over to the door, still in just grey trackies, no shirt.

The door opens to reveal you. You barge in past him. "Hello to you too.", Buck mumbles closing the door.

He should be used to this by now. Especially since he was the one to start it. When you were teenagers sometimes you'd get home and find Buck waiting in your room.

You place a container onto his kitchen island. "Don't you have a spare key?", Buck asks wondering why you didn't just use it.

"Yes, but I don't want go just come in. What if you were...you know with someone.", you turn around now noticing his bare chest.

Your eyes trail along his defined torso, heat rising to your cheeks.

"I don't think you have to worry about that Y/n.", Buck mutters.

You raise your eyebrow at him, smirking, "Oh? Bit of a dry spell, huh."

Buck had tried sleeping with people since this little crush started and they always seemed to look like you. When he'd accidentally moaned your name for a second time, he decided it was time to give up.

"Shut up.", he groans playfully, coming to stand beside you. "What's this?"

You take the lid off of the container revealing the baked goods inside. "Muffins. Homemade."

Buck smiles ear-to-ear. "You made me muffins?"

You scoff, "For me as well." You pick one up and take a big bite out of it.

Buck chuckles shaking his head.

"Eddie. I need your help.", I say zeroing in on the brunette man. I lean against the cool metal surface of the fire engine.

He raises his eyebrow at me as he packs stuff into the truck.

"I need your help to make Buck jealous.", I continue.

Eddie shuts the compartment and mimics my action of leaning against the vehicle, arms crossed. "And why do you want to make Buck jealous."

A smug smirk is plastered across his face making me roll my eyes.

"Because I think he likes me.", I whisper yell. For MONTHS I've been noticing Buck change around me. At first I was confused and couldn't figure out what was happening but then I started to think what if he likes me. Sure I'm not 100% but with the way things were going Buck would never come out and tell me, so I had to take matters into my own hands.

He pulls a face, dragging his eyes wider and lifting his brows.

I turn my head at the sound of a familiar voice. "Oh hey Y/n. What are you doing here?", Buck calls jogging down the stairs.

"I was just here to see Eddie.", I reply making his face drop.

"Oh?", he says sadly. A hint of curiosity lacing his voice.

Eddie moves closer. He links his arms around my waist. "Y/n here was just asking what time I was coming over.", He says affectionally, his face close to my cheek and neck.

"Oh.", Buck says again shoulders sagging. "So are you guys, uh...a thing?"

Eddie looks at him, "Well I mean if I'm lucky." I giggle as his breath and nose tickle against my skin.

Buck drops his head for a moment. "That's great." He forces a smile.

He must be upset, I can tell. But I need him to tell me.

"Hey Buck.", I say before he can fully turn around. Eddie has straightened up but still remains behind me with his arms round my waist.

Buck turns his head to me, eyes glistening. "Want to come over tonight?", I ask.

He sighs, the fake smile appearing again. "Sure."

I smile back at him, a forced one of my own. I didn't like this. I didn't like upsetting him but I needed the truth.

Once Buck's out of sight Eddie and I unravel. "I think this is a bad idea Y/n.", he says. Eddie didn't want to hurt Buck either, but if things went the way I'd planned, everything would turn out fine.

"Just trust me.", I say watching Buck walk away, shoulders slumped.

Buck knocks on the door. A bottle of wine in hand even though he knew he was gonna need something stronger.

When the door finally open it reveals you. Buck can't help but smile. Even though this was going to be painful he wanted you to be happy. And if that was with Eddie and not him then so be it.

"Hey Buck.", you say bringing him into a tight hug. Almost as an apology for what you were doing.

When Buck moves further into the apartment he finds Eddie already sitting at the dinning table.

Both men share a brief greeting. You walk over placing your hand on Eddies shoulder. He caresses it with his hand, eyes locked on Bucks.

Buck shifts uncomfortably, clearing his throat. "I, uh, brought this wine.", he says holding it up.

"Aw, thanks Buck.", you grab the bottle from him and show him a smile. His cheeks flush.

"Sit down man.", Eddie chuckles at Buck's awkwardness.

Once the wine is poured and everyone is seated the awkward conversations start.

"So, how'd... this happen.", Buck says gesturing between the pair of you.

You and Eddie share a glance. This was not well planned.

"W-we, just, um.", you stutter but Eddie saves you.

"Well Buck, at first I thought you were both dating and the I found out you weren't. Then I assumed you liked her but nothing ever happened so I made my move."

You almost spit out the sip of wine you just took. Eddie smirks before you kick him under the table.

Buck was at a loss for words. "And I'm glad I did.", Eddie smiles adoringly at you.

"So am I.", You smile back staring into his eyes.

Buck clutches his wine glasses so tight he's scared it will break.

"Still here.", he tries to joke uncomfortably.

You want to just reach over the table and pull him in by the shirt and scream at him to tell you his feelings.

"Don't worry Buck, we know. If you weren't here there'd be a lot more noise and a lot less clothes.", Eddie smirks.

"Alright!", you say over the top of the last part, Buck would have heard though.

Buck's jaw clenches. "Y/n, can I talk to you please?", Buck asks through gritted teeth.

You get up and follow him to a spot away from the table.

His hand rests on your arm as you stare up at him.

"I don't want to be jealous Y/n... but I am.", he takes a deep breath. FINALLY, you yell in your head.

A smile must have flickered across your face because Buck looks at you confused.

He starts to say something but you cut him off. Reaching up to pull him into a kiss. His arms wrap around your waist and his lips dance on yours.

But then he pulls away. He looks down at your face for answers. "B-but what about Eddie.", he asks beyond confused.

"Huh?", you mumble, mind a mess. "OH! No that's fake.", you kiss him again.

He reluctantly pulls away, "What?!"

You huff, "I wanted to make you jealous so you'd admit you like me."

"You knew?", he asks.

"She knew!", Eddie yells from the dinning room.

"I'm gonna leave you two love birds to do... whatever you're going to do.", Eddie shouts grabbing his coat and leaving.

You and Buck chuckle. "I can't believe you knew.", Buck says astonished.

"Evan Buckley, I can read you like a book.", your arms wrap around his neck as he holds your hips.

"Be my girlfriend?", he says though it's more of a question. His eyes almost plead with yours.

"I think the kiss already answered that question.", you laugh. Your lips connecting again.
