Ta reine

Summary:

Enid is dating Ajax, they're kind of THE couple of the Nervemore.

Everyone agrees with that.

Except Wednesday... And Xavier.

Chapter 1: Ta reine-Bal

Chapter Text

Like the year before, when Wednesday Addams walked into the grand reception hall, many eyes were on her. The previous year no one expected it to come, this year there are bets about her, why will she come? She doesn't have a date?

Yet she was there.

And for a specific reason.

One person in particular.

Enid Sinclair.

High school students have a habit during these balls:

Choose a queen.

For this memorable evening, last year, they did not have the opportunity. Today, they all made it a point of honor to do so.

Hands down, Enid had won the title of queen of the evening.

And Wednesday was fucking proud, she didn't even need to threaten anyone for that to happen.

At the front of the stage, the blonde gave her roommate a beautiful smile before the principal asked her to choose her king.

Enid's smile faltered but didn't fade, her eyes resting on her partner of the evening, Ajax. He was already smiling, already preparing to ride next to the young girl while Enid silently breathed out her boyfriend's name.

After placing fancy crowns on the tops of their heads, the music resumed, Ajax dragged the werewolf onto the floor, in a dance far too conventional for Enid.

But Wednesdays couldn't see any more, it was a dark view, she looked up to see Xavier's weary face and a hand under his nose.

- "Will you grant me this dance?"

Young Addams stared at the outstretched hand for a moment before looking up.

- "I'm not interested" she got up with a sigh, her gaze resting on the couple of the evening. "I'm interested in a queen tonight." It was said so low that the boy almost wondered if it was really meant for him.

Xavier turned to see the same thing as the smaller girl. His smile fell, he wasn't angry or jealous, or even sad not to be wanted by the girl he loves, he felt sorry for her... For Wednesday to say him, she must really suffer in this loneliness.

He looks at her with a sympathetic smile.

"You should go talk to him."

-"No."

The young girl in question glanced in the direction of the two lovers. Xavier bent down slightly towards the clairvoyant.

- "Why? It could well end, right?"

- "You don't know her Thorpe, she's just freaking out."

"Yeah, you're totally scared aren't you?"

The look of the goth changed, took on a much darker air, but Xavier was a torture artist, he was not fooled. The gleam of sadness was perceptible in those dark eyes.

- "You should talk to him about it, it will take time but it could work."

You should go find your date."

-"Wednesday, talk to him, even if it's not really accepted by everyone..." his gaze quickly deviated to a point behind the clairvoyant, who was almost sure who the boy was talking about. "Maybe next year you will be the queens of the evening!" He told her with such enthusiasm that Wednesday almost wanted to believe it.

- "You really believe anything."

"Yeah, that seems to be my thing, you know, believing stories that other people haven't even considered the possibility of yet."

Xavier look tenderly about the young girl.

- "It's normal to be scared on Wednesday."

He put a hand on her shoulder in a reassuring gesture only to be quickly pushed away and greeted with a seriously threatening look.

-"Talk to her, she will eventually understand, and accept that a girl like you can love her. Surprising as it may be."

He walked away with a last smile.

-"Good luck."

Sitting in his chair in the corner of the room, Wednesday never took his eyes off Enid all evening.

Observing her flying dress to the rhythm of these dancing mauves, of these bursts of laughter which among all these noises were the only ones that Wednesday took the time to listen to. And those discreet smiles that Enid sends him without anyone noticing.

She will show Enid that she is much better than Ajax.

She will bring down the king.

As she does so well.
